Moore definitely had a reaction after stretching to make that save in the second half. A few sat around me commented on it. Probably groin but how serious we'll soon find out.

As an aside, I don't know if it has been discussed before but seeing as a goalie has fuck all to do for 90% of a game, shouldn't he wear something warmer. I mean, he's stood there with next to fuck all on in the cold and pissing rain then suddenly you're called on to make a flying save. The odds are high that you're going to twang something in this situation. It all seems a bit obvious to me so shouldn't they have thermal vests and leggings on at the least?

With all that water they put on the pitch theres a chance of catching "fever"if standing in puddles as well...

Everyone is saying , if this rumour is true ,
Where doomed I Tell ya all .
But I'm just casting my mind back to after the mini blip ,
After Walsall , a lot wanted Moore dropped , cause he'd turned shite and wasn't good enough .
Fans ehh fickle bunch aren't we .

Including some who rated him without seeing him but then decided they knew he was no good from the start!

I'd take it as a sign that our manager is supremely confident that

WE ARE GOING UP

and can't see what the fuss is

If George messes up there's enough goals in the team to outscore Oldham
Was going to say the same thing.

I would not blame Long when he inevitably Fucks up, I would however be less than pleased with our rulers who sanctioned the Ramsdale sale and then didn't sanction a back up keeper being brought in.

Long shouldn't be in the position where he is back up keeper here, he looked mentally shot and nervous as a kitten as soon as he got in front of a big crowd, any good performances he may have had in front of one man and a dog for the reserves won't have changed that.

If he does have to play No one is going to get on his back from kick off, or hope he faiIs I strongly suspect he would get a rousing reception and huge goodwill.... And it won't make a jot of difference.

OK then, he should have a thermos with some lemsip on standby in the corner of his net, like John Hope used to hide it behind his gonk.

Consider the defence that he's played behind in previous seasons (Alcock, McEverley etc) and then tell me the defence we have now won't make a difference to how George Long plays. Mark Howard wasn't thought of very highly while at United but Bolton have conceded less goals than anyone this season, because they've got a solid defence.
Maybe so, maybe not. He has absolutely no communication with his defence and flaps at balls that come in to the box. I have zero confidence when he's in the 1st 11 and so does Wilder, hence why he purchased a new GK.

Ramsdale? How many times you seen him play? I've seen him once. Looks like he had a lot to learn.
How many decent keepers are happy to warm the bench in L1? George is probably as good a back up as we'd get. Wilder's been keeping tabs on him so if we could have got someone better and Wilder thought we needed to, I'm fairly sure we'd have got them in.

If Coutts, Freeman, Basham can improve under Wilder why write Long off because he had bad games a year ago? DCL was shit when he played for our first team but now everyone's saying we should have sold him for more. If Long comes in, has a few blinders and then gets sold to a PL club in the close season will posters who slagged him off be using it to criticise the board?

Named in the starting eleven against Oldham.

What is your reaction?

Have a massive meltdown like some great big fanny, sure that I know more about player selection than our manager who is struggling with us being on the cusp of the relegation zone?

No.

I have faith in Chris Wilder, he seems to have a reasonable idea of what he's doing. We aren't top of the league by accident.

We should also consider the defence he played behind in Wilson's second season.

That side set a club record number of League clean sheets.

Guess the name of the keeper that contributed 18 League clean sheets to that record? From 36 League appearances.

Looks like my bet has some mileage in it yet.

If Moore was genuinely injured surely he'd have come off? One thing we've learnt about Wilder is that he won't take the slightest risk and turn a minor injury into a long absence because of a player staying on the pitch too long. Moore didn't even have any attention.

I think the OP should make it clear if he's just taking the piss or has actually heard something. Threads like this do us no good good whatsoever, and more importantly won't do Moore's replacement any good either.

Steve Conroy?

We can rule out Derek Richardson

Long was doing fine at one stage, keeping a fair amount of clean sheets. Granted, a few dodgy performances behind a verrry dodgy defence and a section of the crowd crucify the lad. Confidence shot after all his previous good work and promise. If he is placed in the team for whatever reason we should back him 100%. I mean really, it seems some of us actually want him to fail........crazy.

Agreed mate, and I blame Clough for that. He should have been rested well before he was at that age. What should have been just a minor blip as a young keeper learned his trade turned into a full crisis of confidence that he never really recovered from.

I could be wrong but I thought Clough brought Howard back as soon as he was fit.

If this is true, then George's issues with communication means that Jake Wright is a must to play in order to keep the defence organized.

100% agreed. George may well have improved, but he will need experience around him. Jake Wright will bring that to the table.

Long started in goal from the first match of the 13-14 season BB and Howard was on the bench in virtually every game until after the Crewe debacle on February 1st when Clough made him first choice. I remember Howard hurting his back but wasn't that at the end of that season?

I recall Long was already starting to get the jitters when Clough was appointed in October... you can hardly blame him after the results under Weir. Clough though continued to play Long for another 3 months leaving Howard on the bench and by then Long's confidence was totally shot and the crowd were on his back. The word I think was that Clough been told to play young George as at the time he was still part of the young England set-up and McCabe was hoping to sell him in January. I've no idea how true that was, but I think continuing to play him did us no favours and more importantly set the lad's career back on its arse.

I genuinely felt/ feel sorry for the way it panned out for him and if he does play I hope he has an absolute blinder for his sake.

I seriously doubt it was true, As people may have noticed I am no fan of Mr. Clough but one thing I am sure about him is he would not let a chairman or anyone dictate who was to be selected.

Yep probably mate, I was just mentioning what some were saying at the time because he wasn't dropped, but that's the case H, Clough made an even bigger balls up of managing him.

Are you sure about that because the grunters claim we're gash and this division is the worse it's EVER been and the Championship is the new super league with all the top teams in Europe competing hahahahaha

I would av me skiing thermals or country-rambling base-layer on at least , with one of them chemical hand-warmers in me gloves , but then I'm old and me circulation ain't what it used to be.

Now, Clough making a balls up is eminently more believable.
