just out of interest. I am sure like everyone else people like to manage and make substitutions.

It’s 65 minutes and qpr are running through us and I am crying out for wilder to make the following subs before it’s too late...

Leonard for Duffy - shore up the midfield
Brooks for Sharp - so that we had an outlet who could turn the their back 4 and yet still be able to create for others.

I know he probably went for Donaldson for his height but he never actually went back for set pieces anyway.

What were you wanting...

Just Leonard. I’d have happily left Billy on but perhaps he was tiring. He’s already done the Lafferty one I wanted when he realised everything was coming down their right hand side.

I'm sure the manager would've liked to have brought Brooks on for Sharp too, in fact he said so .Unfortunately he also said Brooks had a back spasm on the bench so couldn't come on...

Brooks said after the game that the back problem was behind him now.;)

Good subs by Chris as we went 4-4-2 and stopped them running through our midfield. 8 more wins for the play-offs?

Whatever the personal, Id be curious to know what the perceived advantage of lumping it forwards to non target men, thus turning over possession at an alarming rate, achieves for us.

Cos I’m fucked if I know.

So what would you have done?

Wilder got it spot on. Perhaps, Lenny for Duffy could have been done 5 minutes earlier. Donaldson is usually effective against a tiring defence.

The pleasing thing is despite Fleck and Holmes not being available the bench is still so much stronger than it was at the start of the season.

Apart from Brooks over Donaldson which was taken out of his hands I think he got the subs spot on.

Fleck and Don for Sharp and Lundstram on Friday? With a sneaky chance of Duffy missing out (although he was brilliant against Hull at home) for Leonard

I didn’t have that info at the time. What were you asking for?

I'd have left sharp on, else replaced him with (an assumed) fully fit Brooks.

Other subs were faultless in my eyes. Wasn't working for Duffy and Lafferty was needed .

I am not sure if I asked the question correctly. I was asking what substitutions would YOU have done before the subs were made.

Without knowing brooks was injured etc. On 65 mins when our backs were against the walls what changes would you have made to correct it?

I too would have brought Brooks on but if he couldn't come on, that limited the options. My problem with last night was, regardless of the personnel, the midfield dropped deeper and deeper, widening the gap to the front 2. Consequently, every time we cleared the ball, QPR were able to pick up the clearances and second balls far too easily. As a result, we were inviting them on and making life difficult for ourselves. For the last 20 minutes, the midfield just didn't press their midfield, which was frustrating.

Having said that, we won and as Wilder said, he would rather win struggling than lose when being the better team and maybe last night was reward for the endeavour the players have put in and not got what they deserved. Hell, we even won without Fleck!:)

Looking forward, Brooks is back, Fleck is back after his rest:rolleyes:, Freeman on the verge of a return so some fresh legs back for the run in and with the exception of Coutts, a pretty much fully fit squad and options in all departments.

And a good result from The New Den to boot!:)

So what would you have done?
Without Duffy as an outlet, we had to defend deeply in the last 20 minutes.

The substitutions “invited” pressure.

I am assuming this was a calculated decision in that we believed we could hold out. Which we did so it worked. So no arguments there.

But it was obvious from minute 1 that our CFs were losing the physical battle against the dominant QPR CBs. And yet we persisted with naive tactics of lumping it forwards when 90% of the time it didn’t stick and came straight back at us.

I understand the need to mix things up and not be so one dimensional, but by any standards, we played far too much low percentage football last night.

I would have made exactly the same substitutions that Wilder did, i.e. the ones that resulted in a win and 3 points

I wouldn't have had a bloody clue.

I could see that we couldn't string two passes together, but what to do about it?

Not a clue. That's why I'm glad that Wilder is the manager and not me :)

Perhaps he changing squad for hull game .wants certain players fully fit .as it' a tougher game than QPR and wasent going to risk Brooks for example as sub.chris may have thought differently if we were losing or drawing.

This thread and comments sums up our support.

We won 2-1 but what would you have done better.

Not knowing the Brooks issue, I was of the same opinion. Other than a couple of instances in the 1st half, I thought that we got little change all night from the QPR CB's when it was physical/contested aerial and I thought that pace would've exposed Onuoha in particular. As the game progressed the lack of press on Lynch meant that the ball was being moved 10 yrds further and we were being pushed back.

After we made the subs, I thought that we lost our shape and for the remainder it looked like we were playing with 10. QPR seemed to have a man over everywhere on the pitch.

Whoever came on we needed 2 people up front and closer to each other to make the ball stick.

Please read the op again. Wilder made the perfect subs. I wanted to know what other people would have done on 65 minutes.

Leonard for a tiring Lundstram at 60 minutes was the only one needed at that time. Lundstram had played the full 90 minutes on Friday. That would probably have prevented the goal. Brooks for Sharp at 70 minutes if he'd been fit and Lafferty for Duffy 5 minutes later would have been my choices. Taking off Billy and Duffy together lost us momentum and we resorted to hitting the ball long.

Donaldson for Sharp right at the death to waste time as Brooks was injured. Goalkeeper and back three kept them at bay as we had little attacking threat after 65 minutes.

I’ve not been impressed by Leonard so far, so it wasn’t him. But he did really well.

I thought Duffy was having a bad night by his standards, but he still creates more than others. So if I knew he was going off it would be Brooks every time for me. Because he’s also a creator.

Donaldson is quite decent in the air - and has pace to get past his man. But he falls down every time he gets tackled. And they were quite physical. It would have been between him and Brooks for me but Wilder knows best and he got it spot on for me!

Yes agree.

I thought Alex Baptiste had a good game. Decent player eh? Adkins signing too! Great manager Adkins - sorry to see him go!
