I'd be happy over the next few seasons being a yo yo team
We have to accept we don't have the funding some clubs get.. But Say we get up stay 2 seasons again come down go up again at least are building up experience which is good.
Watford West Brom Norwich Fulham and Burnley level is our next target
It's realistic with our lack of clout

These teams all want to be long term prem but it seems there's an apprenticeship period
We were a top 10 championship side in the noughties .I'd like us to take the next step to yo yo team. And not rely on the dream of getting our own billionaire philanthropist which is as likely as me winning the euro lottery

Agree. Since 1976, our average league placing is mid table in the 2nd tier so I would be happier being a yo yo team

I wouldn't class Burnley as a YoYo club.

Probably wouldn't Watford either. Both those clubs have bounced back at the 1st attempt just once each

Get the excitement of a promotion battle and a relegation scrap every few years.
Prem money doesn't get spent completely on wages and 'superstars'. Just a good level, exciting squad.
Maybe.

I don't want to be a yo yo club, the best years supporting the blade's has been in the lower league's, money is good I agree but I feel we have lost the intensity of our supporters in the past 3 year's since the premiership. We have always been passionate regardless of where we were and division we played in. I maybe wrong but we have became a bit flat in recent years. 1st year in the top Division was awesome 👌, now we have lost our identity again. I love the blade's just like the rest of us.

I believe we've spent 99.75% of out history in the second tier, and just 0.75% in the top.
Can't remember where I got those figures from though.
walks away whistling
🤣🤣🤣🤣 I hope your not using government figures

We spent most of our 1st 50 years in the top division I think around 40 years. Its the last 50 years that let's us down.
Two main reasons for that and probably linked.
Maximum wage being abolished meant we struggled to keep up with top clubs due to lack of turnstile revenue we didn't have many seats to increase revenue.
We did attempt to catch up with the Bramall lane stand and then the main reason for our demise " the South stand which really had to happen ,to bring in the extra revenue. When it opened we got relegated and the debt (750,000) became a millstone round our neck ! The club was skint! we had opportunities to put it behind us but a catalogue of poor decision's by a string of chairman kept us in a financial tangle .
That's the history of our last 50 years a few occasions we were almost there ! each time it fell flat as relegation put us in financial trouble .The money just hasn't been there to build squads capable of sustaining top class football.
We seem to be in the hands of a curse put there by the old Bramall lane cricketing gods who havnt forgiven us for removing cricket from the lane.
Tongue in cheek of course! but sometimes with the near misses we've had it feels like we're cursed.

Part of me would settle for doing a Norwich and going back up and having another go even if we crashed and burned.

Burnley were yo yo but are the prime example of improving over a few up and down seasons and hanging on a bit longer. Always flirting with a return downwards.

We've never had directors with money.
Harris found gems with paper boy money . Like Currie for 27k. We got by in the old 11 v 11 days as only the first 11 got wages to speak of .Teams like Leeds got better players with cash in brown envelopes luring players
As subs came in meant bigger wages we just fell behind . We paid div 4 wages and ended up there. Reg Brearley helped us recover a bit with his illusion of wealth. And McCabe did improve facilities but made some terrible footballing decisions.
Getting in the prem 2 years ago was a shock to the club. We'd never had real money before. Welll not to spend but we chose poorly.
Now we are rebooting back to shopping at Asda instead of Waitrose.
So even hoping for the dizzy heights of being a yo yo club is our best logical target

I’d like us to get back into the Premier League, get established, have huge crowds every week, see some of the best players in the world, upgrade the Academy and pilfer the best talent in Yorkshire, maybe win a League Cup and have a few European matches.
It’s not as far fetched as it seems either that !

It’s hard to be a yo yo club, when your team is in transition. If we did manage to get ourselves promoted 3/4 of this team won’t be making the journey with us.

In May 1987, I went with a Burnley supporting mate to their last game of the season v Orient, which they had to win to stay in the Football League, which they duly did, 2-1. As an impartial observer, it was a very tense affair. The notion of them being a yo-yo club would have seemed very far fetched in those days, it took them another five years to get out of L2 (Div 4 to those of a certain age).

I would still disagree that they're a YoYo.

In 2009 they pipped us to promotion. They spent 1 year in the PL.

It took them 4 seasons to get back up. They went down again at the first attempt.

This time though they bounced straight back. I'd say they've "YoYo'd" just once.

Id say any team that goes up and down within 2 to 3 seasons but is in the bottom 6 prem or top 6 chasing are yo yo

Being a yo yo club is the next level. One I have never seen in 40 years of being a blade. It's does come with the added misery of extended 'sack the manager' debates and the constant belief in signing/getting rid of player X making the difference.

We need to continue our upturn in form to even have a chance of yo-yo-ing.
Yo-Yo clubs though can make good sums of money too which can help develop facilities and give you good spending power in the Championship. (We seem to be an exception so far in that we don't after being recently relegated)

I wouldn't say it's make or break but failure to be promoted this season or potentially next (No idea what the squad will be like come next season to be honest) and we can kind of build on it again. You'd think this would enable us to help develop facilities (Academy, training, ground) or at least some part of this given that the apparent reason we seem to be strapped is that the club bought the ground and academy etc. back from Scarborough holdings.

In terms of signings now we are back in the championship the players we are linked with tend to be from our division or above. Getting prospects from L1 and L2 can be cost effective punts too, to work alongside this new academy - first team plan.

Of course you would you cheeky chappie ... Well , be a good boy + don't forget that Santa's on his way

Only time I can remember us bouncing back first time after relegation was when we went down to the 4th division. Other than that we have always taken years to get back to whatever division we were relegated from. Very depressing really !

Bassett did it first attempt and it was a great season but our natural level is second tier and probably always will be.

Our only chance is a breakaway super league so the big six go or a wealthy benefactor takes over. The former is the more likely.
