My report from watching at home: Utter shite.

I went in the garden and helped my 5 year old build a rocket at half time (vinegar, baking powder etc). That is how bad it was. I never felt we would score and so it proved. 1 deflected goal in the last 5 games. We had no idea whatsoever for most of the game.

How Morgan can say we have a terrific bunch of players after being involved with another complete meltdown and a total non performance second half is beyond me. He is out of his dpeth and to hear him stuttering over his post match interview saying the same thing 3 or 4 times over was embarrasing. Sadly he has to leave the club and learn management in the non league. We have had enough of managers out of their depth both in terms of tactics, modern ideas and thought. Morgan has sadly proved in a short spell he has little idea and sadly I have to say we may have had more chance of promotion with Wilson. That is easy to say in hindsight of course. I felt it was a gamble sacking Wilson but would have brought someone in outside the club personally. Morgan has been too involved in this rotting carcass and that is why we need to clean house completely.

Back to the game if you can call it that. Both legs were awful with little football by both teams but any played was mostly by them. In seriousness, we did ok after we gave them a goal start; we passed it ok for 5 mins and had a few half chances and Murphy had his best half as a Blade and was unlucky to the bar. Second half was pathetic and if they had took 3 or 4 good chances it would have been a hamerring. Other than a dreadul Porter effort cant recall an effort of note. Did we even put 2 or 3 passes together? It was totally insipid and spineless fromt he whole team. The midfield who did ok first half disappaeared, we had nowt up front and the defence looked shaky with the two full backs utterly woeful.

Yeovil deserved to win over the 2 legs for being hungrier, playing better football and creating the better chances. They were a very ordinary side for me but were better than us and the second goal was inevitable either in normal time or extra time (clearly they were fitter, younger and wanted it more).

There concludes my final match report/thoughts of the season.

Ratings -

Long 7/10 - Little chance on goals. Made one decent save but awful defence.

Westlake 3/10 - Never been a footballer. Nowhere near his man and nearly gifted Madden 2 goals.

Hill 2/10 - His worst game since some since came to the shockers when he came to the club. At fot fault for the first and also some blame for the second. Made numerous other ricks and awful.

Collins 4/10 - Get some hammer for this but he was culpable (not as much as Hill) on both goals. Too big a gap between him and Hill on the first and then no pressure whatsoever on the ball for the cross onthe second. He also contributed to Maguire getting booked wiht a giveaway.

Maguire 6/10 - Slow and pedestrian but still our best defender and at least showed some determination at times and seemed to care. He will never make it as a top, top player for me as his lack of pace and silly mistakes will stop that but could play Championship and may move on.

Doyle 4/10 - Pretty wretched. He did ok for a spell in the first half but also gave the ball away a lot and fell to the deck unnecessarily. As they got control second half I cannot recall him touching the ball second half.

McDonald 4/10 - Decent for 5 mins in the first half but his shooting is of the callibre you see at Concord Park. Terrible technique. Second half he just disappeared and he and Doyle may aswell have been sat in my garden helping with my rocket.

McFadzean 6.5/10 - Good first half and had a few runs and at least looked a threat but lakcs strenght and genuine pace and faded after the break.

Murphy 7/10 - Not been his biggest fan but he did well today and first half he was our main man with 2 decent efforts and involved in our better efforts. Second half he did not have the same impact.

Ironside 3/10 - Never in the game and looked totally out of his depth. One thing being able to come on and run around but from the start he has to make more imoact. Got outmuscled and even outpaced by 2 slow centre backs. unsure what qualities he has? Does not seem a target man/goalscorer or runner.

Porter 4/10 - As above never in the the game. Never really dominated centre backs and I felt whislt on Friday he was a threat today he was never in it. He had that one effort but it wa an atrocious attempt as he fluffed his lines badly twice.

Subs

Higginbotham - Came on for Hill and played left back. Sliced 2 out of play and fitted in with the general lack of urgency and competence around him.

Kitson - Came on and should have been sent off. Twice. A snidy kick out and then a nasty off the ball challenge. Horrible cynical play. Did nothing else. He can go and fulfull his dream of playing for San Francisco Whitesnake or whoever now. Did ok in his early United career. Looked an ageing journeyman who is on his last legs.

Yeovil - Quite ordinary side who battled hard and played pockets of football. Think Brentford will beat them in the final and they will be probbaly be back around mid way next vastly infeiror set up/season (a la Stevenage) but fair play to them. They have a vastly inferior budget to us but have players who actually look like they want to play for each other. Ours look like they were looking forward to their holidays.

Thats it. I will compile my traditional end of season school report (if people want it - but hard to write let alone read) over the next few weeks. Until then.

ps - My rocket never got off the ground. Sums it up.

The rocket - Old film canister, about a third full with vinegar and an alka seltzer :)

The game - 2 individual mistakes and a further inability to score.

What was Kitson hoping to achieve?!

Poor as though we are / were, we would have won that game with a decent striker. It's been an ongoing problem since we replaced one with Forte.

:(

UTB

It sort of popped up but did not go up the full distance. It then just meekly rolled over and broke into two.

The Rocket of course? ;)

That's what she said.

Sorry.

Can't disagree with. Have good summer and I look forward to your reports next season.shame the rocket somehow seemed a metaphor for the blades.

to be honest i thought we played slightly better than the home leg.
difference being, we were jammy that night.

that said, beyond mcfadzean and murphy its hard to have a good word to say about anybody today.

been in the garden thinking up a measured response and dB did it for me.. thanks
thought Kitson was a disgrace to the shirt.. Doyle a disgrace generally
ok, KMac was poor too but the thing with him is that we 'know' he has talent .. we have seen it.. i've never seen anything from Doyle in 2.5 seasons.. never a MoM or game changing performance.. once
i'd keep Long, KMac, Fadz, Murphy and Miller.. that's it. the rest should be shipped out.. i don't want Morgan in charge. sorry Chris, you were a great player but i don't want anyone with Sheffield United links. there is too much baggage.. we need a clean slate with clean ideas

Yeah we were better than Friday. Yet they still passed it better and had the better chances over both games. We looked clueless. Second half was painful to watch. Really painful.

We need at least 3 new strikers in the summer (Miller wont be back till around Oct-Nov0, 3 new midfielders, 2 new defenders, a new manager.....In fact can we just start again from scratch? Seriosuly if someone said we could get rid of the entire sqaud apart from say the home grown players and start again I would take that even if we just had 7 or 8 young players and nothing else.

KMac has hidden too many times this season the the 2nd half today summed him up- he turns into trouble and passes sideways too often.More often than not he has been the biggest liability in the team this season with his lack of goals, poor tackling and lack of involvement in games. His performance at Crewe was the worst I had seen from a central midfiled player soince the days of Ian Hamilton. It was noticeable to some of us on the terrace that he was the first to run down the tunnel at the final whistle whilst the other players stayed on the pitch to clap the fans.

To top it all,the supporters from the Handsworth coach bumped into the players on the way home at some services ...KMac made it quite clear to them that he would not be with us next season. Sensitive twat isn't he ?

KMac is and always has been, a bit of a disappointment, he is injury prone, a shirker, lazy, overpaid and overrated. Maybe Raith or Falkirk want the waster?
See yay jemmy? back hame for ye son

to be fair most of the balls he gets are hospital passes, especially from Doyle.. give it Kevin and let him sort it out.. i'm not surprised he will be leaving..he'll probably end up at Reading or Swansea with the other blades midfielders deemed crap

I would release Kitson (maybe Higginbotham too).

Try and get some money for McDonald (someone will buy him). Fend off any offers for the young uns and build the team around:

Long
Collins
Maguire
McMahon
McFadzean
Miller
Murphy
Flynn

If we get some £€$ surely we can tempt Freeman from Stevenage and I thought Ed Upson & Joe Edwards for Yeovil were better than all our midfield put together. Surely they can do better than Yeovil when they lose at Wembley.

Yeovil to finish in bottom half of L1 next year

KMac is and always has been, a cunt.Overpaid, overvalued, shirking, injury prone scottish wanker.
played nearly every game this season??
there is a massive schism in this club between those appreciative of genuine talent and those who think that running around putting a shift in is a substitute for said talent

Well that has made me laugh....especially as I think you are actually being serious.

i'm not rising to the bait this time as i'll get another infraction
Kevin Macdonald is the only true player we posess.. like it or not.. no wonder he is struggling

He was awful today. Misplaced passes along with Hill and others. Over rated player.

McDonald was awesome last season when he had good players alongside him. He would do a good job in a good passing side with pace.

Given that we aren't, and can't afford to build that - what do we do? Is he a luxury we can't afford, or a kingpin we can't lose? I'm really not sure, but err on the former.

We need a good mix of youth and old heads. I expect Maguire to be sold but would expect us to keep Hill(as cover across the back 4). I would add Whitehouse and DeGerilamo to the list

However we need big strong atheletes . Brentford,Swindon, pigs last season,Yeovil have players who are quick, big and strong . I have no idea who would could get but we certainly need a 'Mike Trusson' type central midfielder and a 'Brian Deane' from the lower leagues. With what we've seen so far,Ironside is still somewhere off and doesn't appear to be a goalscorer our lack of squad depth is worrying.

I reckon we need 7-10 players

Play McDonald in a three where we have others with mobility/pace and who can get up and down and he still can be mightily effective. He is one of few assets we have and he is still quite ordinary though! I think Long, Maguire, Collins (1st half of seasons), McDonald, Miller are still 5 that could be a decent platform to build another playoff challenge! Thes rest outside the kids I would taxi out out of this club myself.

Kitson, Robson and Higginbotham are gone. There is no way they will stay as we cant afford to keep them (bet they were all on very good wages). Sadly other than a few of ineffective kids, Chappell, Harriott, Barry, Kennedy, not sure other than LJF if any others are out of contract. Yes, Williams, Porter, Doyle, Hill, Westlake, Flynn, McMahon all have another year and in some cases more (Doyle - 2!).

No bait,SP,just what have seen from him this season

get what you`re saying alco but if that article is a luxury we are in very serious shit. He`s done nowt all season and shirked his way through games like an anxious ballerina.

MacDonald is the only quality player we have - but even he's had a very average season. One of Maguire or Collins would be ok if played alongside a quicker partner - but we can't play them together. Long is a good shot stopper but doesn't command his area. Miller showed promise before his injury. And that's it. Piss poor really.

THIS! He is a fucking loser, destined for fuck all. I don't want hoofers, but nor do I want to see nesh, workshy show ponies.

Off you fuck you fat arsed fraud.

McDonald is a player for the good times. If things are going well, he's brilliant. If they're not, he's a quitter.

We either need to build a winning team that doesn't rely on him, or ditch him entirely.
