My report from watching at home: Utter shite.
I went in the garden and helped my 5 year old build a rocket at half time (vinegar, baking powder etc). That is how bad it was. I never felt we would score and so it proved. 1 deflected goal in the last 5 games. We had no idea whatsoever for most of the game.
How Morgan can say we have a terrific bunch of players after being involved with another complete meltdown and a total non performance second half is beyond me. He is out of his dpeth and to hear him stuttering over his post match interview saying the same thing 3 or 4 times over was embarrasing. Sadly he has to leave the club and learn management in the non league. We have had enough of managers out of their depth both in terms of tactics, modern ideas and thought. Morgan has sadly proved in a short spell he has little idea and sadly I have to say we may have had more chance of promotion with Wilson. That is easy to say in hindsight of course. I felt it was a gamble sacking Wilson but would have brought someone in outside the club personally. Morgan has been too involved in this rotting carcass and that is why we need to clean house completely.
Back to the game if you can call it that. Both legs were awful with little football by both teams but any played was mostly by them. In seriousness, we did ok after we gave them a goal start; we passed it ok for 5 mins and had a few half chances and Murphy had his best half as a Blade and was unlucky to the bar. Second half was pathetic and if they had took 3 or 4 good chances it would have been a hamerring. Other than a dreadul Porter effort cant recall an effort of note. Did we even put 2 or 3 passes together? It was totally insipid and spineless fromt he whole team. The midfield who did ok first half disappaeared, we had nowt up front and the defence looked shaky with the two full backs utterly woeful.
Yeovil deserved to win over the 2 legs for being hungrier, playing better football and creating the better chances. They were a very ordinary side for me but were better than us and the second goal was inevitable either in normal time or extra time (clearly they were fitter, younger and wanted it more).
There concludes my final match report/thoughts of the season.
Ratings -
Long 7/10 - Little chance on goals. Made one decent save but awful defence.
Westlake 3/10 - Never been a footballer. Nowhere near his man and nearly gifted Madden 2 goals.
Hill 2/10 - His worst game since some since came to the shockers when he came to the club. At fot fault for the first and also some blame for the second. Made numerous other ricks and awful.
Collins 4/10 - Get some hammer for this but he was culpable (not as much as Hill) on both goals. Too big a gap between him and Hill on the first and then no pressure whatsoever on the ball for the cross onthe second. He also contributed to Maguire getting booked wiht a giveaway.
Maguire 6/10 - Slow and pedestrian but still our best defender and at least showed some determination at times and seemed to care. He will never make it as a top, top player for me as his lack of pace and silly mistakes will stop that but could play Championship and may move on.
Doyle 4/10 - Pretty wretched. He did ok for a spell in the first half but also gave the ball away a lot and fell to the deck unnecessarily. As they got control second half I cannot recall him touching the ball second half.
McDonald 4/10 - Decent for 5 mins in the first half but his shooting is of the callibre you see at Concord Park. Terrible technique. Second half he just disappeared and he and Doyle may aswell have been sat in my garden helping with my rocket.
McFadzean 6.5/10 - Good first half and had a few runs and at least looked a threat but lakcs strenght and genuine pace and faded after the break.
Murphy 7/10 - Not been his biggest fan but he did well today and first half he was our main man with 2 decent efforts and involved in our better efforts. Second half he did not have the same impact.
Ironside 3/10 - Never in the game and looked totally out of his depth. One thing being able to come on and run around but from the start he has to make more imoact. Got outmuscled and even outpaced by 2 slow centre backs. unsure what qualities he has? Does not seem a target man/goalscorer or runner.
Porter 4/10 - As above never in the the game. Never really dominated centre backs and I felt whislt on Friday he was a threat today he was never in it. He had that one effort but it wa an atrocious attempt as he fluffed his lines badly twice.
Subs
Higginbotham - Came on for Hill and played left back. Sliced 2 out of play and fitted in with the general lack of urgency and competence around him.
Kitson - Came on and should have been sent off. Twice. A snidy kick out and then a nasty off the ball challenge. Horrible cynical play. Did nothing else. He can go and fulfull his dream of playing for San Francisco Whitesnake or whoever now. Did ok in his early United career. Looked an ageing journeyman who is on his last legs.
Yeovil - Quite ordinary side who battled hard and played pockets of football. Think Brentford will beat them in the final and they will be probbaly be back around mid way next vastly infeiror set up/season (a la Stevenage) but fair play to them. They have a vastly inferior budget to us but have players who actually look like they want to play for each other. Ours look like they were looking forward to their holidays.
Thats it. I will compile my traditional end of season school report (if people want it - but hard to write let alone read) over the next few weeks. Until then.
ps - My rocket never got off the ground. Sums it up.
