I do think you have to look at what we're doing as a whole though rather than focusing on each individual signing. It's clear Wilder recruits players for specific functions as part of his tactics. It's why we're 9th in the Premier League but without much interest in any of our players. They're brought in to perform roles. It's unlikely we're going to be making superstar signings, or obvious "names" because we can't compete. We have to be cuter with our recruitment.

I was slightly underwhelmed when we signed Hogan and Madine, but when I gave it extra thought it was clear that they gave us options to play different ways in games. All of the sudden we looked a way stronger outfit that could go a few different ways to win games.

I wasn't underwhelmed because we were in the championship and they added something different to the team that could actually make a difference to our team.

In my opinion Meite and Burke will offer nothing different to what we already have and signing them makes no sense to me.

Love Chris Wilder but if Meite and Burke are what we are the type of player we are in for then we will be looking at a relegation battle we need far better quality than that our squad is already weaker than last season.

Where is it weaker?

Good to see you don’t trust the man and the team who got us this far, and I will also explain we will be in a relegation battle every season we are in this league.
We will always have the lowest budget in thIs league every season. That in itself will mean it’s a battle every season to compete.
Now you can either accept that and crack on, or You can continue to whinge, whine and be negative about something and everything when there’s nothing You, Me, Chris Wilder or anyone else presently at the club can do about it.

You aren’t a football manager or any kind of expert to suggest you know better than Wilder. But if folk like you continue your attitude and grow in number then I can tell you the one person that makes this all possible will fuck off.
So wind yer neck in.

Understand your point but not the most optimistic way of viewing it. Id like to think that in the future after a few seasons of being here and establishing ourselves financial and hopefully Prince bringing in further investors/business partners we will be able to compete financially more and more the longer we are here. If we are on relative shoestrings indefinitely Wilder will one hundred percent move on at some point because of it. 👍

Give over man! Fooking relegation battle! Have you heard yourself?!
I’ll only start to panic if Wilder leaves the club... will never panic over who he chooses to sign!

You missed the subtle hint that says “anyone else presently at the club”...meaning we need further investors.
As we are, with the Prince and current board, we will always have the lowest budget in the premier league unless that changes.
He doesn’t have the money to lose, and IMHO I am happier we are going about it in a manageable way. I would be more concerned to see the arrival of a Chansiri or similar to just spend cash and eventually feck off leaving us in the shite.

But yes, hopefully we can be here for next 5 seasons, grow each season and then be in a position to compete financially with those similar in size who are presently spending way beyond their means and risking the clubs future.

Where is it weaker? we are several players down and the squad lacked any real depth last season and apart from Ramsdale we have not signed anymore more quality players.

I am entitled to my opinion like anyone else and it won't be the fans that cause Wilder to leave it will be the lack of finances and unable to take the team any further without real investment.

If CW and the transfers team thinks he can help us in our second season then that's enough for me.

Some of you need to chill out FFS.
Kev, with all due respect, that’s like saying Wilder can fuck my wife all over whilst I sit on a chair at the back of the room, tied up, watch him, then he takes my wife and looks after my kids for the rest of their lives. 🤣

The forum would be pointless with this kind of viewpoint.

Let’s see what Meite is like or see if we are even in for him before we get ourselves in a tangle over it. 😁

Signing better players.

They haven't signed one player.

Why would a Chansiri or similar leave the club in the shit? Chansiri spent money at the other club with a plan to try and make it to the prem, he has since put the club up for sale to try and presumably get some of his money back, but in the mean time he continues to finance the club, so why if we managed to attract a billionaire owner, would it be a bad thing? How long have Chelsea, Man City, etc been in the prem and they seem to be doing ok?

The current owner personally worries me more, especially things like mortgaging the assets over a 5 year period, etc. He would appear by doing things like this to have less available finances than the last owner.

Which players are we down?
You mean the ones released...one returning to parent club and another on loan?

I get sick of this mantra of idiots stamping their feet about “real investment”....what do you want the Prince to do?

It’s morons talking shite and drumming up Bollocks like “need to invest more”...”need to spend some money”....”where’s the money gone?” that will force managers and owners out. Wilder is well aware of the budget, where the club is at, what it can afford and what the future plans are. He’s doing his job well in line with the club. Why would that lead to him walking away from HIS club.
Quite how you think we have suddenly got money to spend £100m on wages a year, plus transfer fees, plus upgrading facilities when we were losing £20-30 m a season before player sales for the last god knows how long I have no idea.

So instead of talking down “rumoured players”, criticising signings, complaining that the Prince isn’t spending more than available and showing a lack of respect to the management team that’s done a fantastic job, how about changing tack and welcoming any player and trusting the manager and clubs decisions.

Trust the fucking club!! They want to be successful like the rest of us!!!

But the current owner of the club doesn't own the assets.
The previous owner of the club did but then separated the assets so he could have a way of getting back some of the money he had put into the club over the years.
McCabe could never have put £50m into the club in one lump sum.

You'd have preferred that he used the club's money to buy the stadium outright? Thus starving us of immediate capital required to invest in the first team....?

Interest rates are low. Mortgaging was the most sensible option by far.

It’s well known he’s not worth billions. That he doesn’t have liquid assets to buy stuff.
The club is trying to be self sufficient and ensuring the future security of the club.
He’s also never hidden this from anyone.

It’s very simple, I’m sure he’s looking and hoping someone will come in, offer him a wedge of money and generate him a very tidy profit. Then That person go on to subsidise losses like £50m a year like most of the rest of the premier league but pay players £100k a week for mid table.
Under the current owner we’ve got to where we are and he’s not risking the club.
He’s doing a great job

No just expected that a owner of prem club could actually afford to buy the club (including the ground), especially since he has know for a long time just what the figures were likely to be?

My son in law is a Reading fan so I have seen Meite perhaps more often than most on here.
He is worth a punt, but not yet as a partner for McB.
I have certainly seen many worse wearing our shirt.

I don't disagree with any of the above, but do disagree with statements like we don't need more financially better off owner/s and taking a few risks a long the way. Surely CWAK must be a billionaire owners dream, controlling finances wisely whilst establishing the club in the prem, maybe even have a tilt at cup silverwere along the way?

We don’t have 6 strikers so they must be better than nothing

The whole point of the stadium purchase is that it is purchased by the club, using club money... so that the club owns it.

Were you expecting the Prince to buy the stadium outright for circa £50m and then gift it to us?

The money used to purchase the stadium has come from our TV revenue.
Why would we spend al of that now when we can do it using a low interest short term loan?
Would you buy your home outright if you had the cash, or take out a mortgage from the bank so that you still had some money in your pocket to spend on essentials...

Obviously fans and club alike are frustrated as progress is seemingly slower than planned or anticipated.

We have a budget we are required to work to, and surprisingly enough this requires us to be hugely disciplined and recruit smartly. This means playing the long game on certain signings, walking away from others and looking at more affordable options for others

Paying over the odds in terms of fees and wages simply isn't something we can do.

Take a deep breath, remember who's behind the wheel don't judge us on speculation and judge us at the end of the window.

Maybe we are just holding fire on putting offers in for players to minimise the chance of being gazumped. It's not ideal and means the club starts with what we finished last season with but it's better to have an improved squad a month into the season than be hamstrung by watching other clubs stockpile our targets.
(It's just a thought before somebody flies in to a rage about such a suggestion.)

Can’t see it if posted already, saw this on Twitter.

Why should the current owner not put the stadium back into the club now? If he want's to sell it, it would need it's own stadium surely? or is he just hoping like the last owner to muddle through and hope that the managers can work magic (Warnock for McCabe and Wilder for the Prince)?

End of the day the club should now be put up for sale and not held onto by someone who can't personally afford to run a prem club.

Scored 17 and 13 last 2 seasons in Championship for a crap side. Hes 24 with time to improve and potentially a Moose replacement from the bench.

There could be worse options and maybe this is the pond we are fishing in for the time being.
He is garbage reading fans are saying let him go
