There may be players who have a similar record, but over far fewer games.
What is impressive for Wright, is that from the moment he and one or two others started playing the whole shape, effort and effectiveness of our side changed for the better.
Individually, nothing special as a player. Not got a great touch, not gonna spray passes 40 yards or carry the ball out from the back, not quick and not physically big and domineering.
But what he does do well is defend. He knows his job and that of those around him, he communicates that to team mates and controls the game, and gives his all in the process. He reads the game so well he almost seems to know what is going to happen so he can be there to intercept it or clear. He IMHO has been the real leader of the team this season. What an inspired signing by a manager who clearly knew what he could bring to our club.
If, and it's a big if he looks to be replaced for next season, I really hope he hangs around the club. I'm not usually one for sentiment but in this case I think his experience and manner is such that he could be a real inspiration and source of knowledge for young players. Certainly wish that my son had his experience to learn from as he begins his football career as a defender.
But hopefully, he will at least get the chance to play next season and I believe he will do well too. Ok it's a bit quicker, but there isn't a huge jump in quality that he couldn't deal with.
