Always better to wait and see I'd suggest despite the incoming disappointment.

But how would you feel if this is what we kicked the season off with:

G - Henderson, Moore, Eastwood
RWB - Freeman, Baldock
LWB - DaSilva, Stevens, Norrington-Davies
RCB - Basham, Leonard
CB - Stearman, Wright
LCB - O'Connell, Robinson
CM - Coutts, Fleck, Evans, Lundstram, Slater
AM - Duffy, Palmer, Holmes
CF - Gallagher, Clarke, Sharp, Mousset, Evans

Would you be fine to have sacrificed Brooks for this squad for the coming campaign.

Granted the non-United players I'm less familiar with, but when you look at the outgoings overall and the fact Brooks was the lad we were sending to Chesterfield, from 12 months ago, you'd have to say that this is a more capable squad with good strength in depth and options. Wouldn't you?

It's not a bad looking squad but I expect us to do much more if Brooks is sold.

3 out of the 5 signings there would be loans. They might be good players but that wouldn't be acceptable if we're getting £12m+ for money hungry little David.

And if we don't spend that money this window, we all know what'll happen to it... the good old black hole will take care of it.

I'd expect us to at least pay for a good CB in addition to what you have there, but maybe in place of Dasilva, with Robinson playing LWB.

Harry Wilson from Liverpool could be another loan to try and get - he's another left footed attacker with trickery and goalscoring ability. Would replace Brooks quite directly.

Marcus Maddison would also be a direct Brooks replacement, and also a permanent signing.

No Da Silva isn’t better than Stevens
Palmer isn’t good enough for Derby so he’s not good enough for us.

with any potential additional signings I would like this line-up:

GK: Hendo
RWB: Baldock
RCB: Bash (Or a replacement)
CB: Stearman (Or a replacement)
LCB: JOC
LWB: Stevens/Robinson
CM: Coutts (Evans if PC not fit)
CM: Fleck
AM: Duffy
ST: Clarke
ST: Sharp

Even if an AM is bought in I still thing Duffy could do a job for the first half of the season

Agree we supposedly have the money now so I expect a quality CB as a minimum. Shame Flint has already gone. In order to get that quality the wage structure has to be revised. The downside of Brooks going means we may have to do this 12 months earlier. Not only do I expect us to go for Maddison but also Marriot. We probably have a better chance of attracting these type of players at the moment. The worst scenario is we waste our money on expensive loans and are left with a weaker permanent roster at the end of the season if we don't go up.

Not just you, but why do people keep referencing Mousset? There has been absolutely no indication (apologies if missed) that a loan player, let alone a specific one, is part of the Brooks deal?

Palmer isn’t good enough for Derby so he’s not good enough for us.

Neither was Coutts.......
I've no clue whether this Palmer is any good or not, even the Derby lads at work can't say on what bit they saw of him.
I'd be reluctant to write anyone off coming in to United under the management of CW & his team.

We certainly need to make some big signing to lift the mood with brooks going from reading this forum....

The only positive I can take is brooks being injured didn’t actually establish himself as a key player for us last season and if we use the money wisely it will put us on a strong position going forward - if we improve 3/4 positions. And i would trust Cw with the money.

N.B - I do think our ‘bigger’ budget was always with this sale in mind... so we are setting ourselves up for a fall is suddenly we think there is 20m + to spend or something. Best we can hopeful is a similar outlay imo.

But fingers crossed he’s sold early and we can build rather than having deadline day disappointment again.

I would happily start our first game with:

----------------------------------------Henderson----------------------------

-------------------------------Stearman ------------JOC

Freeman---------------------------------------------------------------------Stevens

-----------------------------Coutts-------------------Fleck

-----------------Duffy-----------------Evans-------------------Holmes

-----------------------------------------Clarke

Fuck new signings!!!!!

Baldock? One of our best players last season. Agree with the sentiment though, I don't think we're fucked in any way for day one. A couple of strikers would be very nice though.

If our new budget wont bring us two strikers a centre back and an attacking midfielder on permanent deals, I'd be unhappy. We'd be sacrificing our best young player - who was on a four year contract - for what exactly? A one of gamble on promotion.Good clubs don't build foundations on the sand of loan signings.

Totally. From last season, promotion is won off the back of clean sheets, a midfield which can retain possession and a forward line that score goals, goals and more goals.

With Brooks, I felt we were close to having two of those.

Without him we're back to having just one.

Why does it matter that Brooks was Chezzy bound last pre-season?

Which of those three traits does Brooks help with? He was very lazy in games at tracking back, lost the ball an awful lot and scored only 3 goals all season I'm not sure our first eleven is that much worse off. In terms of players affecting games Duffy is far better. We've lost potential in Brooks thats all not a proven player.

Scoring goals in big games.

Bet you're the kind of bloke who gets dumped by a bird then spends the next 6 months telling everyone she was ugly and her breath smells...

I don't know who DaSilva is, but i think if Stevens plays like he did in the second half of the season then Del Geary with his dodgy knees is in line for a recall.
