Worst view at an away game

Worst view has to be any seat in the away end at swine cottage.

Pigs to the left, pigs to the right, pigs below, pigs opposite.

And of course rusty falling down stands painted blue and white.

Going to have to stop typing about this now- I’m feeling very queasy.

Yes but you had a great view when they stopped bouncing their little porky balls and boobies......:D

One that sticks out is Luton. On my first visit there I sat in the main stand, the side where the television cameras are. I remember counting 17 pillars between me and the pitch, it was like being sat sideways on a seesaw trying to follow the game.
That was sometime early to mid seventies so I can’t confirm that it’s still the same.

Worse view was Barnsley away a few years back, me and my Dad got seated behind a temporary scafolding stand for the TV cameras, could only see one half of the pitch.

Second worse was Rotherham in the cup at Don Valley, we were behind the goal, the long jump, high jump, shot put ring and steeple jump pit, as pitch level and the game seemed like it was miles away. To top it off it was uncovered and pissing it down and any atmosphere quickly dispelled into the oncoming winds

At Old Trafford, That game where loads got locked out. At the front of the terrace neat the half way line. When the play was on the opposite wing, due to the camber on the pitch it looked like someone had eaten Bobby Charlton's legs off up to his knees.

The first few rows behind what is now the home end are below pitch level. You couldn't see anything when play was up the other end in 1996 as their massive keeper Ian Feuer was blocking the view. That ground is a dump.

Feck me I must be getting old cos I don't remember a Simon Lappin ever playing for us :( did he play very often? I must change this medication  UTB

I remember being lower than pitch level at Bradford, that's a reyt laugh.

I was going to mention Luton for this same reason.

Went there the season we got promoted to prem, we lost, and one of their players fell over a hoarding into our stand down a pretty big drop!

Bury isn't great. It's below pitch level and feels like you're watching from a trench. It's even worse on a wet Tuesday night in the days of Nigel Adkins.

I could see all of the pitch from my seat. Worst view ever.

My view same game

Not with United, but the view I had in Freiburg's away area earlier this year was quality

Probably the worse player I've ever seen at the Lane and there's been a few. His speciality was the air-kick.

The old baseball ground down the side if you were at the front you could just see the players ankles as you looked upwards. Remember us losing 3-0 in the Cup and the two hats above throwing tea over us.

Upton Park and Carrow Road for me where you couldn't really see one goal. Also, Burnden Park as previously mentioned.

I'm not old enough to remember the late 70's but from what I've heard they were pretty poor times. When you consider by the end of 1975 we'd finished 6th in the top division and only 4 points off top spot, then 4 years later we were in the 3rd division and losing to Wednesday in that game followed by relegation to the 4th division in 1981. They must have been horrific times, I salute any Blades who went in those days.

But you're right, in recent time the time under Weir and Adkins were truly dire and Clough in the League was mixed. One appointment has changed it all! Always said you can always achieve something with a good manager, but with a good Chairman and a poor Manager its much harder, irrespective of money spent.

It was pretty grim mate
In the 1980-81 season teams like Aldershot and Newport didn't just achieve wins against us, they wiped the floor with us and we were relegated to Division Four with 40 points in a two points for a win system

United's hard luck stories were still going strong even in those days and fate it seems always bit us on the arse.
The three points for a win system was introduced in 1981-82 and if it had been in place in 1980-81 we would have got 54 points and wouldn't have been relegated
We also got relegated with a PLUS goal difference, people might wonder HOW CAN THAT BE POSSIBLE.
Well I don't know, but United managed it

Cheers for background mate. I consider myself fortunate to have not been alive in those days! For me personally the second season under Clough and the Adkins season were both poor, with the latter naturally worse. Also the relegation to League One under Adams was awful because we should have stayed up that season and made a mess of it.

Was Lappin the one who had a catastrophic debut in a midweek home game, with 100% of what he tried going wrong?

It must have been an awful view for you, because we drew :D

Oh dear, I was certain we had lost too!

I do know we were singing 'We don't give a fuck we are going up' so must have put two and two together

just checked he was with us for 3 months and played 10 times. Can honestly say i don't remember a single one of them or even his name  UTB

I would expect that the worst view at an away game would have been the one Dean Hammond had when he was on his knees making sure Adkins put him in the starting eleven.

Can't remember Lappin either..........and WTF was Coady doing on the bench!!

I'll beat Silent to this one but don't think we played Aldershot in 80-81, drew with them 1-1 in the fourth division at their place if I remember correctly and of course we drew 2-2 in the opening game at the Lane, after being 2-0 up! However, off the top of my head I think we did get hammered 4-0 at Newport, 4-0 at Portsmouth, 5-2 at Swindon and drew 4-4 at Walsall, when we went 4-3 up deep in injury time and without a Blade touching the ball from the restart they scored to make it 4-a-piece ... yep we were shit in those days!!!

And the worse view for me, Millwall at the old Den, anywhere you stood in the away end the pitch was obstructed by fences.

Remember all vividly as was present at each of those unfortunately!!

Not with united but went to watch Leicester Vs Donny a few years ago when they were both in the championship we had seats for a few rows down from the back of the away stand. My Leicester supporting mate wanted to sit right at the back so we walked to the back row and kept sitting down in empty seats only to be asked to move again. When we finally found some seats at the back 10 minutes into the game a couple of very big blokes were stood up in front of us the only view I got was over their shoulders. Decided at half time to go back to my original seat to watch Leicester get ripped apart by Doncaster.

Cheap seats down at the front , at Wembley takes some beating , for a poor view , with the sun blazing down and result as expected , ended up watching match on big screen , may as well have stayed in the lounge .

I thought we drew 2-2 with Hereford for our first game in division 4 but I could be wrong. My memory wasn't what it was. Whoever it was though I vaguely remember us chucking a two goal lead away.

Worst view for me was either Derby (Baseball ground) or Everton away. Both terraces behind the net were lower than pitch level so you could see fuk all at the other end of the pitch (remember Marwood scoring a last min winner for us at Goodison Park and I could hardly see a thing as it was at the other end...I only knew we had scored after we saw the Utd players running around like cartoon figures going barmy). Pompey was also a crap view if you was near the bottom of the terrace.
