Worst view at an away game

This 'happy' memory has popped up on my Facebook memories page from five years ago. To quote the Golden Girls, picture it Shrewsbury Town away on a cold November day. Nigel Clough is now manager and there is optimism that things will improve after an awful start to the season. I arrive at the ground to find that my seat is behind the scoreboard, I hadn't noticed the 'restricted view' message on my ticket. To make things even worse, what must be the largest Blades fan in history is sat next to me, meaning that I am squashed up into half a seat. The bit of the game I can see, United are awful losing 2-0 and Fabian Brandy ruins his United career by picking up a stupid red card. To cap off the day, a Shrewsbury fan runs onto the pitch and a portly policeman falls flat onto his arse whilst trying to catch him. Thank you Facebook for reminding me of the day!

That’s not great, but at least it’s glass, unlike the solid wall between the corner stand and the Kop.

I don’t have a picture, but the side stand at Walsall where we were in the front row for the 4-1 defeat the season before last had a huge steel pillar which made it impossible to see anything without standing and shuffling and no ‘restricted view’ warning either.

What gets me is that neither of these grounds are old, although the Bescot’s probably close to 30 years old now.

Everton. Sat near the back. Watching the game through a letterbox, under the overhanging upper tier of the stand.

Any time the ball went higher than 10 feet off the ground (which was most of the time, when we had a kick) it vanished from view and we had to guess where it had gone from the reactions of the players.

I'm not old enough to remember the late 70's but from what I've heard they were pretty poor times. When you consider by the end of 1975 we'd finished 6th in the top division and only 4 points off top spot, then 4 years later we were in the 3rd division and losing to Wednesday in that game followed by relegation to the 4th division in 1981. They must have been horrific times, I salute any Blades who went in those days.

But you're right, in recent time the time under Weir and Adkins were truly dire and Clough in the League was mixed. One appointment has changed it all! Always said you can always achieve something with a good manager, but with a good Chairman and a poor Manager its much harder, irrespective of money spent.

Blundell Park - either been sat below pitch level or right on the back row where the way the roof overhangs means you can't see the goal at the far end.

Swillsborough is terrible, massive posts in the way wherever you are sat.

Can’t say that was a very good view - i could see the pitch!

I seem to remember Chelsea being bad, right in the corner on the lower tier.
