Worst reception for an oppo player at BDTBL?

A few I've not seen mentioned; Deano when he came back with Leeds in 1994, I remember Keith Edwards getting stick at Elland Road but struggling to remember him playing against us at the Lane; Nathan Blake always got stick whenever he played against us.

Currie got abused when he came back with Leeds.
He did, but not from me. I was on the old Kop that night as a schoolboy and couldn’t believe that my hero was getting abuse. I reckon there were just as many cheers as boos that night. The fact Leeds totally outplayed us didn’t help things.

They were singing "Currie is a fat twat"

Bert did not join in.

i was there too mate ,it was a sickener. 4-0 i think we lost?
Some half hearted chants of 'Sabella is better than Currie' but remember leeds singing 'Thank ya very much for Tony Currie .....'

Hated em ever since

Max Lowe should get a nice reception in November.

I wish I was on the kop that night. I was only 7 but would have loved to have that memory.

My dad took me into the John street stand for that game. Probably thought a raucous kop wasn’t the best idea for a naive 7 year old.

I do remember it looking packed though. Were there any leeds fans on the kop that night and was there any bother.

My seat in the John street was near the away end and Leeds fans were jam packed in that end

Jebbo getting dogs abuse yesterday put me in mind to ask what's the worst reception you've ever heard for a single opposition player at the Lane?

One that sticks out in my mind from recent times is Marvin Sordell (deservedly) getting some proper stick when he returned to BDTBL for the first time after breaking Coutts' leg. All four sides absolutely hissing every time he had the ball.

Half a mind to exclude pigs/ex-pigs from the discussion but I won't because I'm nice like that!
Talking of Sordell, he no longer holds an unwelcome record thanks to BBD.

The loudest and most sustained ‘Wanker, wanker, wanker’ chant I can remember at Bramall Lane, was directed at Ron Atkinson when he emerged from the tunnel as the Aston Villa manager, shortly after leaving the Pigs.

It was deafening and went on for ages, I know they’re not complicated lyrics but it seemed like everyone in the ground joined in, made you proud to be a Blade, I was quite emotional. 😉

They beat us didnt they?

I remember a match at the Lane where Gordon Strachan got torrents of abuse every time he touched the ball, and it really seemed to put him off his game. I don’t think I’d ever seen the crowd have such a clear impact on a match. Not sure if he was still playing for Leeds at the time or someone else?

Alan Ball

January 1970 - he said we were a glorified 3rd division club after we beat Everton 2-1 in the FA Cup 3rd round.

January 1972- we were losing 5-0 at home to Arsenal. He received the ball outside the box at the Lane End and carried on running with the ball not far from the John Street touchline. He had plenty of space with no opponent being near him and then he decided to sit on the ball for a second or two before looking to pass the ball to a team mate. I was a bit confused at what I had just seen so I looked at my dad asking him "what's happened there?". My dad glumly replied "He has just sat on the ball to taunt us!". Years later I was talking about the Alan Ball incident with my dad. He said Nip Hague (a big Blade from Dronfield who used to travel in the same coach as me to away matches) went berserk in the terraces and was about to climb over the railings to run on the pitch to confront Ball but Jimmy Beresford (from Unstone) grabbed hold of him and made him stay in the terraces.

October 1972 - We won 1-0. Alan Ball got sent off late in the game after receiving a 2nd booking for a foul on Trevor Hockey. The Lane crowd erupted with loud cheers and Ball responded with slow handclapping to all directions of the ground.

September 1973. We were winning 5-0. Unfortunately I missed the game as I was at boarding school. TC sat on the ball in front of Alan Ball and the crowd loved it!

1-4

Gary Bennett, who did that horror tackle that ended Ian Knight's career. Came to the Lane 2 seasons later with Southend and was booed every time he touched the ball. Cross City solidarity.
As much as I hate the pigs, I have to admit that I like this. There’s being a dirty cunt and then there’s ending someone’s career by being a dirty cunt (I doubt Ainsworth gets / got a similar reception at the Hillsborough mind).

Vardy usually gets a decent amount of stick, which of course he thrives on, although usually it’s reasonably good natured ‘banter’ as opposed to outright hate in the case of Ainsworth, Tarrico etc.
Don’t mind Vardy at all. Takes it and gives it back when he gets the opportunity like any of us would.

Deane for Leeds in 1994 was the worst I witnessed. He of course had to score!

I remember the boos for Ablett after he signed for Birmingham over us.

Both already mentioned. Never understood in a way why Blake got dogs abuse because he didn't ask to leave and did really well with us.

I get the whole reception thing with Ainsworth et al.
I may be in the minority but I just don't get giving it out to ex blades , I didn't understand the reception jebbo got on Saturday.
Suppose I'm not the social media generation of giving people abuse for little reason .

Didn't Blake slag the fans off after he left. "They were always critical, and never supported me" type article.

Andy Dibble away at Stockport in the late 90s got some right hammer for being a bit porky.
Ended up getting sent off and if I recall correctly had to get his flabby norks out when he took his keepers jersey off in front of a delirious away end.

Edit - I speak for myself when I say I delirious at the situation, not the sight of Dibble’s tits.

Second edit - just realised the thread title said at BDTBL. Sorry forum Police.

In recent memory former player wise, Paddy Kenny on his first match back against us (QPR, maybe?) Only the first time back though.
yeah that was pretty bad, i remember that had stand in front of kop & booing you can deal with. but it was as personal as i cant remember. multiple chants about him & his ex wife
