Worst penalty decision ever

The Gerrard pen was absolute bollocks - how about the interpretation that Morgs attempted to tackle him rather than trip him?

Don’t remember that. Do remember Kozzy having a last minute goal disallowed at Upton Park for absolutely fuck all though. Outrageous decision
Wasn't it because he didn't get out of the way to allow Green to pick the ball up in the 6 yard box

If memory serves it was the ref who said that. He referred to Gerrard by name and "the Sheffield United player".

Yes, that was the bit that annoyed me (for what it's worth, I thought it was probably a penalty). The ref said something like "Stevie carried the ball into the area and then the Sheffield United player obstructed his run". Pretty poor wording and not very helpful against any accusations of bias towards big clubs.

Two that stand out for me...

20 mins to go at Old Trafford in Oct 92. Nil nil and Utd starting to look very dangerous against the defending champion's and media darlings. Agana goes past a couple and gets to the penalty spot about to pull the trigger when Gary Pallister comes in from nowhere and completely takes him out missing the ball by a yard. Of course it was no penalty and we went on to lose 2 nil after the heads went down.

Away v Wet Spam 93ish. Winning one nil (Deane) in last minute against the media darlings and Utd are looking more comfortable than Olly Reed sat in a comfy chair with a bottle of whisky. Tom Cowan nods the ball back to Tracey and sets off jogging back up the pitch job done. Ref then decides that Cowan turned into an alien and sprouted arms and hands suddenly out of his head, and awarded the pen. They score....2 points dropped.

Both totally fkin outrageous decisions and still make my blood boil with the sheer cheating that went off. Fkin scandalous.

I also remember the Fashanu c**t who tried to give Utd 2 penalties that day down at Plough Lane. They were that clear it was if he was playing basketball in his own area. Ref only gave 1 of them though as I don't think he could believe his own eyes again. He was trying to throw the game...clear as fkin day. Cheating twat. Only time I was pleased we didn't get given a penalty and we only drew. Hopefully it cost him a lot of money. Hated the twat ever since.

The defending champs in 92 were Leeds.

Yes, that's how I remember it. The panel didn't give that as their opinion, they merely repeated what the ref had said in a post match interview .

Add to that Gerrard's theatrics when , as someone else said, he threw himself into the arms of Kozluk at Anfield and you have the reasons I totally went off a player who I previously had a lot of admiration for.

As for the refs in question, total wankers who were never going to allow a shitty little club like ours beat the Mighty Liverpool

I'd blame the several outfield players for that one, personally :)

The Scougall and Gerrard ones are the most fresh in my memory. I also remember Gillespie getting pole-axed away at Reading in the promotion season too.
I might blame Wilder for not being our manager at the time............

Don’t know the exact rules but I’ve heard it said before that there doesn’t need to be actual contact if it’s agreed that there was an intent to foul and the player has lost the advantage trying to avoid the incoming foul.

I'm fairly sure FIFA changed the rules AFTER the game but BEFORE match of the day so that it made Stephen Gerrard not look like he beat up that DJ in that night-club in Southport in order to enable him to be found innocent of the charge in a LIVERPOOL Crown Court despite any video evidence to the contrary and Furthermore so that it made everyone think that he moved to an American club for 'footballing reasons' rather than because his wife was being shagged by a Liverpool Gangsta at the time.

Michael O'Neill described Switzerland's penalty against Northern Ireland as the worst penalty decision ever, and it got me thinking, what was the worst penalty decision ever in one of our games, either for or against us? GO...

Does the ref have a Swiss bank account?

Should have been a penalty to Hull last week when O'Connell handballed to potentially put them 2-0 up.

Also, one of our pens against Blackburn in the Premier League when their player handled with his shoulder under no pressure was dubious.

. Germany v Holland. World Cup final. German player dove over for pen replays showed clearly he’d never been touched. Won them game.

Kozzy’s fabulous save against Citeh...

Stevie G’s penalty against us at Anfield... at a corner, he dived into Kozzy’s arms. Ref was dying to give a penalty

I’m still annoyed watching Gerrard go ‘look at me look at me!’ to the ref before the corner, but I had no recollection of Crouchy getting a boot in the face. I would say penalty was correct, but Gerrard’s dive was the first offence, so should have been our free kick.
I recall one given by Chris Foy to Watford. He adjudged that Jagielka had fouled Helguson. Apparently Helguson even told him that it wasn't a foul but he gave the pen anyway. Think he might have also sent Jags off.
He did send Jags off. I think we were cruising at 1-0 before that and went on to lose 2-1. I remember Jags looking up at the Kop and being mystified by the decision. I asked a couple of Watford fans after I’d they thought that was a fair result and they absolutely did!

Two that come to mind for me:

1. Freeman against Brentford. Such a bad decision that the referee was forced to reverse it then and there.

2. A bit more hazy this one. I’m pretty sure the players involved were Peschisolido and Bywater (so possibly West Ham). Corner for us Kop end late on, and Bywater was manhandling and pushing Pesch before it was taken. When the ball came over it was a full two handed shove sending him flying out of the six yard box. Nothing given.

I think the correct answer is Scougall though!

I don't ever remember a ref being interviewed after a game except for Styles. I've looked over the internet to find it, but no chance. He said Gerrard was entitled to dive because "the Sheffield No5" intended to foul him.

The worst decision involving a penalty for me, was when we allowed Steve Simonson to step up at Wembley, and take one of the worst penalties ive ever witnessed!!!
Still hurts to this day! Especially being on the stadium
