What a lovely player Shaqiri is to watch!

Not seen much of him before, but my god, I thought he was world class last night. He thoroughly deserved the standing ovation he got from both home and away fans, he was that good.

A delight to watch, fast and built like a bull. I've seen plenty of Messi and Ronaldo on the TV, and Shaqiri is certainly no worse than those two. Worth the entrance fee just to see him.

Back to the Blades, an excellent performance against a full strength Stoke side. Trust me, United have nothing to fear this coming season in the Championship, and I truly think we will sneak a playoff place.

Young Eastwood is very confident and comfortable in goal, and I think Wilder will be happy for him to start against Brentford next week. The lad won't let us down. His kicking is very very good.

David Brooks. Future England player, no doubt about it. Strong, fearless, jinxes his way through any defense, enjoys his football, and has a natural eye for goal. Let's enjoy him whilst we can, because we are seeing the beginning of a future star in the making.

Carruthers had an immense game. Very fit, ran at players all night, and looked to make things happen.

Sharp, Coutts, Basham and Enda Stevens also stood out for me.

The squad as a whole is bristling with confidence and energy, and you can clearly see that they are frightened of no one. Chris Wilder and Alan Knill have created a formidable force that will take some stopping.

One of those that never quite filled their early potential but a cracking player. Didn't go last night but always been a fan of his, ever since he was a standout player in the Champs League for Basel.

Arnautovic was another, shame they lost him to those cheating bastards.

Think I'll start a new thread on last nights game and call it the Basham better than Shawcross thread

It was one of the surprise signing's when Stoke announced Shaqiri was to become their player. First, that he'd choose Stoke of all the clubs to play for, secondly, that such a class player was affordable by such a club.....but.....good on 'em for making it happen. They chose well and we're all able to see just how good this guy is. Of course Shaq's quality has been evident for some time, but the fact that he's playing in the English league is something all football fans should enjoy while they can.

Obviously well aware of his abilities but said when he was subbed last night, he'd fit perfectly in our team with our style at present.

One to consider when we get promoted next year ;)

Couldn't agree more mate, well said.

I'd not seen this Shaqiri bloke before. In fact, I'd never heard of him tbh. I don't tend to watch much Premiership football. When he ran out for the first half I thought he looked like a pit-prop. Almost square in shape with two arms and two legs. In fact, he reminded me of this fella!

But he sure can play a bit! Very difficult to get him off the ball, good vision, works hard, was behind most of their good stuff all night. Appreciated him returning the applause as well to our fans when he came off.

Same here Cerberus. I tend not to watch Premier League football, so knew virtually nothing of the lad. When I first saw him on the pitch, he just didn't look like he'd be able to run with all the muscle he was carrying. He reminded me of those little (in height) weight lifters from the Balkans, that you see when watching the Olympic games on TV, who can lift about 4 times their own body weight.

Completely ran the show. His quality stood out like a sore thumb, and I can't believe some on this forum actually thought he was mediocre. I'll applaud any player off at the Lane, if I think he's had a good game, apart from the pork from across town that is. Football is all about opinions though, but I just wish that Shaqiri played for the Blades. It's not every day that you see true quality with your own eyes.

Did anyone think it surprised him that we applauded him off?
He looked took back and a bit unsure why the away fans gave him such a food send off.

Scored some great goals from distance. Knicknamed the "Alpine Messi". When he went to the Bundesliga it was on €2million a year. I suspect he will not agree a swap for Done.

Hang on a minute...are people saying he's better than Brooks?

The 3 they had up top played well together, so fast on the break, but Shaqiri ran the show! A great test for United, and we passed with flying colours!

Star player....but can be inconsistent and a little temperamental.

One day, we too may be dipping a toe in the foreign superstar market....you never know.

I think Shaquiri is a great player but let's not get carried away with likening him to Messi and Ronaldo

Those two would have completely destroyed us single handedly and would have probably scored about 7 goals each

Looking good but I never take anything from friendlies thanks to David Weir.

Cracking player, the best I've seen at the lane since Christian Eriksen

I thought that, just as he took the free kick from exactly the spot where Eriksen did in the semi final. Luckily, he wasn't quite as good as Eriksen!

I think you mean unluckily Eriksen was a bit better. I'd have rather beaten Spurs then than Stoke yesterday.
