How’ve United ever affected your work? We’ve all got the blades in common but I’m sure on here we’ve got teachers/milkmen/joiners/CEO’s/shop workers/HGV drivers/military personnel/policemen etc etc of all ages.

Personally I’ve lost a job through following the blades in my 17 year old outlook on life I didn’t realise I was working after we played Crystal Palace under Warnock (not sure if it was league or FA cup) but it was an important game that got us to the semi’s or quarters. Anyway at half time I bumped into my manager while wobbling with a pint in my hand who kindly informed me I needed to be at work straight after the match. I turned up 3 sheets to the wind where upon my arrival I was told I had x amount of time to put 3/4 show bathrooms together (something i’d never done and didn’t have a clue how to do) obviously once left to my own devices in a big empty Homebase I fell to sleep to be woken and told to go home.... Incidentally I then got a working with bathrooms and made plenty of show sets up across the road in the old Cowan and barrats !

That was actually my original point in starting this thread but then I went on a tangent, I’ve done feck all but scour this forum and text blades mates I’ve not seen in ages.

I once went for a Saturday job aged 16 at Safeway Ecclesall Rd. Got an interview and let them know at the end I couldn’t do Saturday afternoons.

I Have always put i support the Blades on my cv , as in some cases i may have been given the job because of it , i may also have lost a job because of it , but never wanted a Pig as a boss anyway .

Similar, had an interview for a part time job at a supermarket after I retired (not really sure why, looking back) and told them I couldn't do Saturdays at all unless it fitted around our home games. Needless to say I didn't get it.

Mind you that's not the same as going for a saturday job when you can't do saturdays

Il be honest, being a Blades has got me a couple of jobs, even though I've turned them down due to not paying enough, both interviews turned to United talk after the first 5 mins, even during to tours of the works, it was literally talking red n white until I left, and with both, rang the next day to say I'd been successful.
Thanks to both of you by the way, we never now what the future holds, so I might be back at some point

I've never had a job that involved missing any matches. Even the one I had which meant working occasional weekends I sorted it so I was off when we were at home

Hunted my job for nearly 2 years then got it! Terms have literally just been changed meaning I have to work Saturdays.
At least I escaped the latest redundancies.

As a young engineer at the Post Office and working a 24/7 shift rota, when I was on a 12 hour shift on Saturdays, I used to sneak off at 2.30pm and watch home games running all the way back to get in before the building was locked down at 5.00pm. It was fine until the day I got a tap on the shoulder from my boss stood on the kop...... but at least it was just a severe bollocking.

I understand this is not quite the topic posted here and this is gonna be a soppy one.

I moved up to Greater Manchester 9 years ago. Ever since I've been only able to attend games sporadically as study and work commitments have meant my time in Sheffield has been limited.

I've been working 2 jobs for over 2 years now which means going to games on the odd weekends I make my way down to Sheffield is potential time away from family and friends. Thankfully, I've managed to catch the odd away game in the region, along with fitting in home games here and there.

This weekend is my last one working 1 of the 2 jobs before I leave it. 2 colleagues thankfully agreed to cover me for Saturday and I managed to get a ticket before they sold out.

TLDR; wish I'd seen more of this team over the last 3 years but thank god I have good colleagues

I'm pretty lucky that I work in the city centre. I work an 8 day shift pattern, which means I'm often working at weekends. However, If United are at home when I'm scheduled to work, I book a couple of hours annual leave which enables me to get to the lane and back. Obviously not the full matchday experience, but means that I miss very few home games.

I remember working with a bloke about 30 years ago when I was just a young man, and we had been asked to come in on a Saturday on overtime. He was a Blade also, so I asked if we'd just be booking time till we went to the game? No, was the reply. We'll book a full day, no one will know. So, we finished about 1pm, and I went to meet some mates in the pub before heading onto the kop, while Bob met his friends and took his place on the JS terrace.
I don't remember the game, but I do remember getting a Green'un that evening. Back then, the Green un was doing a competition each Saturday where they took a photo of the crowd, and if your face was circled in the photo you could claim £5. Well that night there was Bobs face, circled for all to see. A fiver better off courtesy of the Sheffield Telegraph and Star, but about £40 short on his 'amended' overtime claim.
