Word or phrases only commentators use...

Not only used by commentators but usually used unnecessarily by co-comms and pundits: by the way.

Usually there's no reason to tag on "by the way" to the end of what they're saying, Martin Known used to always do it, then Dion Dublin started, Danny Murphy and other assorted idiots do it too (if they were saying this they'd add "by the way" at this point)

It's a phrase often used by normal humans, but not in the way it's used in football.

Watching the match earlier. Preston commentator said:

United are getting into the "ascendancy"... now I don't think I ever hear that word in normal life, only football commentary.

Slightly different, but why do commentators say "just about"?... "he just about kept it in". Well if it didn't go out, he didn't 'just about' keep it in, he actually kept it in.

Any more ??
Enjoy

Unnecessary verbal additions Pt 94, Lee Hendrie and his relentless "I tell you what...." which ironically he uses while he tries to formulate something to tell us 🙂
