Brentford have done exactly that and they had one of the best academies in the south east. Benham got sick of losing 16-18 yr olds for peanuts to the bigger teams after investing in the kids for 10 yrs. They are now going to bring in the 16-18 tr old cast offs from Chelsea et al and hope to pick up a diamond whilst saving millions per year in academy running costs.

Doesn't bode well for the future though if 'everyone' does it !
Benham is a mathematician, a professional gambler, devoid of emotion. He had big plans for Brentford but as yet, they're still playing in the same stadium and still no nearer to the PL. I posted several years ago that I wondered if he'll still be as enthusiastic and full of himself after a few seasons in the championship.
He works on mathematical models but how does that work in the championship? There's certainly an element of chaos theory. Maybe he has modelled it and the model says 'almost no chance of getting into the PL'.

I wouldn't follow his lead as far as football is concerned. It's not just about numbers. The 'what does being a Blade mean to you' thread shows that.

Football is full of emotions, and enotions lead to bad decisions. If ever there was an area where non emotional, mathematical models (actual fact over bullshit) would lead to improved performance, I'd say it was football.

Presumably the kids will have been told

"look at this guy, and whatever he does, you don't"

Reading that teamsheet doesn't make for easy viewing, it isn't nice to see. I'm not a delicate little flower, it just makes you cringe for the bloke and to be fair to him, he was never a nasty piece of work, a wage thief or a selfish tosser, he's just past his best. He played whenever call upon, he's just well past it, his legs are gone and he simply isn't good enough. We can pay him up or sort him a new club without humiliating him.

Went to see the Benfica game the other night. The porkers played Kean in goal, fucking hell it was like he'd swapped boots over. Worst distribution on a keeper I'd ever seen.

Shame they've got a fantastic no.1 who will prevent him playing.

On the other hand, we're doing him a favour, giving him a chance to build his match fitness despite the fact he has no future here.

That's got to hurt his pride. Don't like to see people dissed but if it's a means to an end to make him settle his contract then business is business.
Spelling his first name wrongly on the team sheet might hurt his pride even more...

"Rosler could hand a debut to new signing Martyn Woolford against The Shrimpers this weekend, after joining from Sheffield United last week. The midfielder, who has made more than 300 career appearances, featured in a behind closed doors match with Oldham on Wednesday.

“We had the chance yesterday (Wednesday) to see the players who hadn’t had many minutes lately. Martyn got some valuable 65 minutes under his belt and I saw a lot in the 65 minutes that he can play the position that we’ve got him.

“He’s a very experienced player who has very good game management and like I said I am very happy to have a versatile player who can cover all three positions on the left hand side.

“We needed someone with experience and knowhow with the characteristic with the player that we’re looking for. Martyn showed me yesterday then he is on a very good way to regaining 100% match fitness...."

Rosler sees in 65mins what Adkins/Wilder couldn't in a season....

just sayin' mind.

Also, not sure if this has been posted (been working overseas) but Woolford said on Twitter (to put the record straight) that he was giving two thumbs up to the crowd on the last day of the season when he was subbed, not sticking two fingers up.

Now I know that plenty of posters on here said that, to counter the stupid rumour than he gave the rods to the kop, but I thought it was a class thing to do, to go on Twitter and publicly say that.

With all the dogs abuse the lad got, he could have chosen to say nothing, but he wanted to put the record straight.

For what it's worth, I have said it before and will say it again, while he was never, ever going to be a star at BDTBL, Woolford was never the worst player on the pitch, but his association with Adkins, and being brought in on the back of the departing Jamie Murphy, was always going to go against him.

It's worrying that I'm finding myself agreeing with what Lydon is saying lately......I must have a totally fucked up head.
