That 1939 photo is incredible - we were always taking the piss out of Wednesday it seems! Here's another photo of the 52-53 lot.

Alf Ringstead (front left) was our top scorer with 22 goals. Good lad.

Check out the shin pads!! Makes 'em look like they've all got elephantitus.

I believe this was the team that battered a pigs team, including Dooley, 7-3.

I spoke to Denis Clareborough some years ago about identifying the players in the photo below (taken after the 6-1 home win against Spurs to clinch promotion to the 1st division). He said he has never included the photo in any of his articles or in his books because of the photo quality. I thought it was a good photo especially with the poster ridiculing Wendy who had lost out a promotion place that day to us

Players in back row from left to right ; Harry Hampson, George Henson, Bobby Reid, Albert Cox. Front row; Doug Livingstone (trainer), Alf Settle, Joe Carr (killed at Dunkirk in 1940), Jimmy Hagan, Tommy Johnson and Arthur Eggleton. Jack Pickering (who played that day) isn't in the photo for some reason. Scorers were Hampson, Hagan 3 and Henson 2

Missed the keeper, I think. Jack Smith (I think).

Brave Joe Carr.

That 1952-53 kit would have to be the best I've ever seen, before my time though
