How are you feeling about the upcoming season?

Unfortunately, and unusually, I'm feeling quite pessmistic. It's the least I've looked forward to a new season for a long time.

I'm just looking at the squad (without the Kyle's), and it worries me. I think we need a right back, a centre back, a couple of wingers, and 2 strikers.

The new signings have been ok, without being inspiring. Taylor is a good young-ish left back who hopefully slots in well. Williamson is a decent box to box midfielder and Reid is young with alot to prove.

The keepers are ok, unless Kenny gets banned then we probably need a new one.

The defence without the two Kyle's is extremely thin in numbers, and should be a big concern for Blackwell. Maybe some more youngsters will be given the chance to prove themselves.

The midfield is average, if Gray comes in the left side should be fine but we need a new right winger to at least be back up to Cotterill. A better attacking midfielder would be a bonus but not a neccessity. I still don't rate Quinn but if Howard does what he did against Preston on a regular basis, and less like he did at QPR and many others, he could be influential.

The strikeforce I've already shared my concerns with in another thread. Definitely the weakest area of the squad. Evans would be a good signing (although I doubt we'll be paying the reported £20,000 a week), and we need another target man who can come in for Henderson when he's out.

My prediction is an average season, finishing in 10-12th. Starting poorly, but getting better as the season goes on.

I've gone from being optimistic to being pessimistic. It looked initially like we were going to be spending money to build on last season's squad, and to be honest, every area of the squad already needed money spending on it (especially the midfield and at least one more forward). The names we were linked with in the papers were the right names for me, I was quite excited for the new season.

Now it looks like we're going to have to replace the keeper and half of the defence as well as strengthening the midfield and front line. What a mess!

Maybe it will all still work out, we'll sign the players we've been linked with and move on from last year. But, as it creeps closer to the season kicking off it is starting to look like we've stepped backwards not forwards.

Starting poorly, but getting better as the season goes on.

I worry that Blackwell will find it hard to see out a poor start. As they say a manager has to live and die by his transfer dealings and for the most part his have been pretty awful, a poor style of football mixed with selling the crown jewels means he needs results or it could turn pretty quickly for him.

I think its a shame that Blackwell would pay the price. Its the pie man  we need to get rid of.

Wow!
We've already lost a manager and a member of the board.
The players are rubbish and we are playing rubbish
All 3 weeks before the season has started.

either everyone has turned into mystic frikin meg or there is a lot of very pesamistic guess work going on.

For me, i'll wait and see what actually happens before making my mind up.

Personally with 3 weeks to go i have..... absolutly no idea what to think, with possible incoming and outgoing transfers roumered and the possibility of players not even mentioned coming in like the "big names" that McCabe hinted at i dont, and possibly many other blades dont know what to think.

The only inkling i have is that even without both kyles and kenny we still have a good shot.

If we sort the kyles out and get some signings in providing how good the bordies, middlesbrough and west brom go i think we could have a pop at the title!

not bad for a pessemist lol! :)

I aint looking forward to the new season.

Epscially since we are away to Boro.

I'm excited cos it's been a boring summer and I have missed football but it has to be said with how things seem like they will pan out then I can't see us doing much. Normally with such a short time to go you would have thought more in the way of our squad would clearer.

Not optmistic at all though, but then again I never am.

It's the least I've looked forward to a new season for a long time.

Totally agree Daz, the defeat at Wembley was diffucult to take plus the build up to the new season has not been that good.

Goalkeeper problems
The Kyle(s) issue
Uninspiring signings
Players turning us down
and now games in Hungary being cancelled so they are going to train instead.

But hopefully in a weeks time some of the issues should have been sorted and there should be a clearer picture.

I've got to say that the thought of this season just leaves me numb. I'm neither opptimistic, or pessimistic. Just numb at the thought of it all. But I should add I'm normally quite a happy go lucky Blade, just bumbling along from one kick in the bollocks to the next from United. However I don't have the deep dark feeling of dread about it all that I did when robbo was in charge, so its' not all bad.

Well this is the most excited I’ve been in years.

A banned Kenny.

No right back with both Kyle’s and sun all going in the break.

A weakened defence no cover for centre back and Killgallon wants out.:(

Blackwell’s fantastic super cunning tactics of "kick it up field they wont expect that!"

struggling to buy from lower leagues’.

Solid leadership from the board threw confident investment in the first team.

There’s no way the blades can disappoint me this season with my expectations

Conner Brown does look promising, though, and he may be able to fill that gap that both the Kyle's will have left. And Bromby is cover...

thanks for that LA, thats a very good point, however bad things my get at least Robbo aint here, we are still paying for the disasterous decision to employ that tosspot
of course his one good point was he could attract good players to the team, how a team with BT cahill naysmith Hulse etc could be so bad is almost beyond comprehension.
I will keep mrepeating the mantra "at least Robsons gone" at least Robsons gone" !!
