Wilson 'expects to lose Quinn'

At this point I would just like to thank Kevin Blackwell and Trevor Birch. What a 'legacy'. Just before the callaitous sacking of KB, Trevor Birch allowed him to dish out unsustainable contracts to Monty, Quinn, Cresswell, Morgs and Simmonsen. With the exception of Quinn, all has/never been's with very little quality (depsite putting in a lot of effort). Now we are left with 3 players draining £1.5 of the club in wages a year and risking us not meeting the fair play rules.

I am wondering if the wages of Monty and Cresswell will not count towards the FFP calculation if they are not selected to play.

I don't know the answer but it would explain them not playing for "financial reasons".

If their wages are included anyway then we may as well play them if the situation demands it.

It also suggests that Kevin McCabe is still bankrolling a good part of the wage bill whilst endeavouring to play within the rules.

I must be of your ilk too I guess, the only good news from the lane in a long time has been Mick Rooker is staying. I can't remember things being this bad even in the 4th division.

No-one is saying things aren't bad...I can only think of the time under McEwan,Haslam /Peters and Adams being worse.

I'd agree with that if we were talking quality of football only, my thoughts were about the club as a whole, never have we had such a huge amount of debt and we have never had to rent the grounds we play on and train on until a few weeks ago. You might be hard pushed to find a time where the relationship with the fans was as bad as at present. Fans in their early twenties have seen only one season in the top flight and come to expect us to be championship at best us older fans were used to top class football with occasional visits to division two.

Can you remind us because i've been there since 1968 and i'm not "used to top class football" as much as you are, it seems.

And i'm supposed to be one of the clappers I think.

:)

Let's just say from the beginning up until the late 70's or roughly the first 90 years of our history we were never lower than division two and for the majority of that time we were in division one, we have had very little to cheer for 30 years or so other than a few seasons with Basset in the top division ..................... not just us both Sheffield clubs seemed to be always in the top ten of Division One when I was a schoolkid.

Finally we intend to run as a business and I am personally delighted and happy to sacrifice another year in this division to bring younger players through

and sell them, to be replaced by cheaper, poorer players, as we sacrifice 2013-14 as well, followed by 2014-5 in League 2 if we are unlucky.

Given recent events and what people have said about the mindset of the ownership I have no confidence that this team will again be given a budget that will allow for a promotion challenge until McCabe divests himself of the club.

A lot of clubs that have been in dire financial straits in recent years have been those that briefly flirted with the Premiership, got relegated, and found themselves saddled with a mountain of debt and players on expensive contracts. United have managed to avoid administration - so far - but some appear to have done quite well out of it in the long run. The Football League are trying to force clubs to get their houses in order and I hope the wage cap will be applied to the Championship and Premiership before long.

In the meantime it will be interesting to see if any clubs in our division find ways to cheat the system. If not, they are all sailing in similarly leaky boats and I don't foresee a slide into Division 2 as a likely scenario.

Because the club has been running at a loss since we got relegated from the premierleague we have had to sell players to pay the wages. When we got relegated to this division nobody wanted our playersdo that then Kev had to find 500k a month to pay the bills for last season and nearly as much for the season before. IF we can blood youngsters and all done so he doesn't have to put his hand in his pocket then there will be no excuses if players are sold.

That all depends on whether we actually play the young lads or as usual take the first offer for any shining light, of course the reality is the fair play rules should be a massive advantage for us when we get twice and in some cases three times the gates of the rest of the division. It is just a pity three players two of whom are only allowed to watch from the stands are in effect taking around a third of our wage bill. As we are we are in for a long hard season, if we lose any more of our few quality players then it could turn into a right old battle to keep even this low status.

Now this post I do pretty much agree with! The only rider being that none of us know how much rent will have to be paid. It might be only a nominal amount, in which case we would be quids in as the football club wouldn't be forking out on maintenance. That would be the responsibility of the landlord. But then again it might be a significant amount that causes us problems. Next year's accounts will be quite interesting.
