Will we be good enough to compete?

You have to think that the prince either isn't as wealthy as we all thought, or he's not as interested as when he first took over. Although I'm not expecting us to go out and spend millions and millions. The game changing investment that we were all promised just isn't going to happen
You will find he's in for about 10 million. Already

We have quality throughout, I can see us contributing to dominate games.

We have one striker who's somewhat a proven goalscorer at Championship level. As it stands, this is what will hold us back.

What could happen, although unlikely is Billy has another great season, and another one of our strikers start pulling goals from their arse. If anyone, it'll be Ched. It'll take some stars to align though.

Lets keep in mind that Wilder has been known to align stars in the past...

I'm cautiously confident.

I think people are forgetting what the Championship is like. People are getting worried that we're playing names like Sunderland and Aston Villa.....even Wolves! I watched lots of Championship games last season and I don't think we'd struggle that badly with the squad we had last year with no new signings. Not saying I think we'll finish top 6 but I think people are worrying unnecessarily. I'm not scared about playing anyone in this division. Who watched the Pigs-Udders game 2nd leg? Are you worried about us losing to that pig team? They were more solid at back but I couldn't really see any other stark differences.

What we have to remember is most players come from the lower leagues before playing at a higher level. Thomas could be the next big prospect, as could Stevens. Who wrote Jake Wright off last season before he played a game? I did and I'm sure the majority of us did. Basham under Adkins wasn't a pretty sight but Wilder turned him into a cracking player. If there's any manager who can get Ched firing, it's Wilder. Carruthers will have a full pre-season with us, unlike last year. He is a quality footballer when he's on his game. Fleck and Sharp were class last season. Look how Clarke ended the season. We have the quality here already, we just need to make 2-3 more signings, which Wilder is aware of and will do.

Quit worrying folks, the Championship isn't all that. Not saying we'll do amazing but it isn't as good as we think it is.

I don't get the Wigan comparison, yes they destroyed league one like we did but the following season they went bat shit crazy with signings and it was a near new look squad last season. Wilder is doing has I hoped he would, stick with the current squad & see how we fair for the first month or so.

We have some real talent in our team who are more than capable of stepping up this season I feel but should we show signs of struggle, then I'm sure they'll be money made available to recruit further in the window.

But it's Chris who's saying that. Not 'we'.
Yes, and I hope the board aren't listening and licking their lips knowing they have a few phrases about not being ripped off to hide behind while not following up on their investment promises. Really hope I will be wrong and that won't the case.

That's far too sensible and far too realistic. The Championship is full of titans. What you and I saw on TV was an illusion. It's a killing field out there. We've been thrown to the lions. In fact I can feel the nerves com

Leon may surprise you, Steve. If he continues the form of the only part of last season that he was fully fit, he'll do just fine.

Barney, I shouldn't worry too much about being wrong. You've become quite consistent where being wrong is concerned, so don't lose heart, I'm sure you'll fund a way of maintaining your standards and missing the mark with ease.

Nigel Clough, Nigel Adkins, Chris Wilder, Dean Hammond?

I'm far from perfect, but any remotely sensible poster would recognise I've hardly got a track record of being consistently wrong.

What am I meant to infer from that list? That you have deep admiration for each of these ghosts? What you've failed to do is compile a list of favoured managers/players that you suggested would be perfect fits for United. That would have shown balance.

Ok, let's agree to say that you're as wrong as most poster's are, and I include myself in that very human criteria of what it's takes to follow a football team.

I think we must be wary that Wigan walked the league 2 years ago and were instantly relegated.

We have a solid squad and, whilst we can't rule out a top half finish, I would personally expect this squad to finish somewhere between 14-20th as it stands. I also must add that I think that would be a successful season, we can't expect too much, we have taken a few gambles on new signings which could go either way. Just need to take it game by game.

Very good point about Wigan, although Caldwell was vastly over-rated and had little or no experience and had a decent war chest granted to him by the Wigan chairman.

UTB

We'll be fine as long as players like Fleck stay fit, things like this will be crucial to our finishing position.
