Will our system cope with Wilfried Zaha?

I was very impressed with our defence on Saturday. We looked solid as a rock in open play. I rate Wilson and king highly and they didn't get a sniff. So im more confident now we can get results in this league. I know it was only the first game. But I was nervous as hell before the game. I think over the 90 mins. We were the better side.

Remarkable truth that Kuwaiti, retrospectively I can't fathom how we did that. Some teams deliberately stop the game with a foul when exposed but I don't recall that much either. Quality is better at this level of course.

If Egan gets exposed one-on-one we could be in bother, but will he? Bash and Jack have some pace and know how. Don't commit and don't allow a shot through legs; easier said than done. He surges at players and can shift the ball rapidly.
 
if it was fully motivated Zaha maybe, but we got a sulking player who didn't want to be at the club. so he wont be on top form. which is great news because Palace very rarely win without zaha
 
We need a strong referee who is fully aware of his diving abilities, I witnessed one on Saturday who was a disgrace, Zaha if his reputation is to be believed is ten times worse than Frazer.
 
It's what the Premier league is all about, Palace are a good team but in the Premier they are average and yet have a player who could have a stinker and score twice, very good player.
 
We have to not start getting an inferiority complex over our status.
Palace and all other teams in the prem offer differing challenges.
But and here's the rub . We offer other teams just as many challenges and some tactics they've not encountered.
We have players capable of winning games too
We can go into the remaining 37 games confident they won't have it easy playing us.
We will baffle quite a few . Some will handle it others wont

Sorry WWF but I can't agree. I don't go to watch and fawn over the opposition, I go to watch and support United. I don't give a stuff who we're playing, I want them to be crap and United to win, ideally by a few goals to nil. I just really don't get this opposition love in, I hate anyone who is trying to beat United!

I remember people being worried how we would cope with Grealish around this time last year..that game seemed to go alright.

I commented whilst watching at home a few times on how quickly they broke on a number of occasions on Saturday, it was scary. Good to know that they were one of the better teams at it as we coped well on the whole with some quick back tracking and a holding midfielder.

We really can't afford to give the ball away cheaply this season though, I saw numerous examples at the weekend of where this was punished with a goal. If we can retain the ball then our system will cope, if we get turned over cheaply we'll get done.

Mourinho was talking about anticipating moves breaking down and being correctly positioned. I think we’ve been working on this for three years now, same manager, same staff. We’ll get caught but not very often.
 
Re OP leave him to Baldock to sort. Not sure many give him credit due for his physicality

I don’t remember any issues with him and, as far as I can recall, he was quite robust and didn’t blow every time someone fell over.
 
Zaha is top class ..if on a going day not many teams can cope with him ....but we will be on the front foot ..and we can't worry to much about him....yes we will have a mini plan for him ...but we will be focusing on us more than him ....
 
There’s a decent chance he’ll be getting himself sent off in the opening fixtures, hope Lunny cleans him out early (fairly) and he loses the plot - unhappy players can sometimes take it into their own hands and secure a few weeks off..
 
Like you said, palace are a team that's expected to be down near the bottom and that evaluation was made knowing that Zaha would be playing for them, on his day hes a very good player, even though he winds me right up how he dives, but palace are still a team that's expected to drop a lot more points than they gain, which means we should go for it , but someone once said great players win games but great teams win competitions

Palace dressing room politics are not in a good place at the moment. Anyone who saw Woy being interviewed this weekend will have seen this and I do not think he will inspire them before Sunday. Tactics must be to get at them early. A goal in 1st 30 minutes might see them drop heads and it will be ours for the taking, Zaha or not. Momentum from final minutes at Bournemouth will be priceless. It's all in the head these days. I am hoping we will get first win to go with first point and first goal.
 
Dont rate Zaha that much. He's decent but if he plays right hand side Enda owns him single handly, left hand side Baldock and Bash will keep him quiet. Down the middle he has no hope.
 
Hard to know which Palace will turn up they can be good and they can be shite from what I saw of them last season. I don't think we should change what we do for one player let them worry about us.
 
He will have Baldock and Bash on the right or Enda and JOC on the left he won’t get a kick
 
I think he’s only any good with the ball, I’m pretty sure he’s shit without it........

I'm afraid our promotion to the P.L. will not make you two Happy Blades then, not so many emphatic victories for you to savour.

Make do with a full house and a highly charged atmosphere with Wilder's tactical nous tested to the full with his players demonstrating how they can find ways to beat teams with highly technical players and top managers from all around the world.

The best team in the world, the Champions League winners, the Europa Cup winners, teams with £80m footballers, ; all the extra media attention, people watching all around the world, players realising life-time ambitions, youth of the city excited and inspired. S6 watching on helpless.

Sorry, we will get beat a lot more times but your football education will be developed and it will be another life-time experience. Incidents and results will be replayed time and again on this forum for years to come. League 1 and the Championship were great fun under Wilder but this season is where it's at.
