Let’s hope that we have also included some add ons to any profit they make on selling him.

We couldn’t have stopped him leaving for a Cat 1 academy. Would have gone to a tribunalWe will find out in a few years time if we were right to take the money
And the tribunal decides on a low fee. Too riskyWe couldn’t have stopped him leaving for a Cat 1 academy. Would have gone to a tribunal
I can't imagine we'd accept a £2m bid unless he has a minimum fee release or he's not signed a contract so we have little say, anyone know on his contract details? I recall the Prince saying not long ago that he'd not see a repeat of the DCL situation so not sure on this one. Shame as he is supposed to be very good.
It's a pity. The romantic in us saw him taking the mantle from Billy Sharp.
But the simple truth is that if we are to be a self sustaining club then you can't make an omelette without breaking any eggs.
You lose someone who is quite a way off the first team or you lose someone in the first team or around the first team.
Certainly while you aren't a PL club, this is going to be the nature of things to a degree and as Deadbat mentioned, if we hadn't yet had the chance to get him on pro terms and also he had an opportunity to go back down south at 17, maybe it's just what he wanted and the chance was there for him. Not as if we've pushed one of our own out the door against their will here.
Jebbison, Osula, N'Diaye, Lankshear, were we ever going to keep them all?
Maybe selling him for 2m keeps one of the others for an extra year, giving them time to develop further and double their value or more.
As daft as it sounds, the last time we sold anyone for a deal approaching 2m or above was David Brooks in 18/19.
Leonard and Evans were probably around a million and the only other sale is perhaps Robinson and he was offset by Burke bad maybe 1-1.5m and then we couldn't offload him quick enough.
Shame we won't see him. But there is no long term in football like yesteryear. It's all about the here and now.
Anyway, as John Maynard Keynes, the famous Economist once said "in the long term, we're all dead!"
30m deal aswell, how can CB forgetRamsdale?
Realistically the ones most likely to stay and play as many games for us as billy has over his career are the ones who are blades or at least from the area simply because their entire lives are here and in the case of the ones who support United it will be a dream for them to play for the senior team so it will likely take larger offers comparatively to turn their headsIt's a pity. It’s all over Sky as a done deal. £1m up front, £1m in performance related add ons. He’s in the 2nd year of a two year scholarship contract. He was being tracked by Brentford and it was thought to be a done deal until Spurs hijacked it.Be disappointed if this is the case.

Yes. 17, looks like he’s 27 when he’s played for the u23s.I am right in thinking he’s the kid who scores for fun aren’t I?

I can, it’s fuck all in this day and age.We picked him up for nothing and are making a potential £2m a year later. Hopefully we have a sell on clause too for IF he ever makes it in the mens game which is far from guaranteed. We can’t grumble too much.
Was Jebbo on an academy contract at the time? He’s not. They’re paying £1m up front and £1m in performance related add ons. £1m is peanuts for Spurs. I think Everton offered £5m for Jebbo but we turned that down.
Can be offered pro terms when 17 - so can be offered terms during first year if they turn 17 then, most will be eligible. He wasn't a professional as only just turned 17 and a 2nd year of his scholarship. When they enter the 2nd year (Ball_Sup (Phil) may know more?) then I believe they can then negotiate pro deals and his agent/family will have known that and clubs will too. So sadly clubs can offer him deals and nowt we can do. We as his club can offer a written contract but other clubs can too. Of course we get compensation (this is what it is rather than a transfer fee as he is not a professional player) as we have his registration but clubs know this will be a minimal fee.
1 million is a lot for someone of this age who had not got a pro deal (as he can't) but clubs know that tribunals would not give us close to that and it is a gamble big clubs will make knowing some may pay off (say he goes on loan a few times like Parrott and/or Scarlett will - they make their money back in loan fees).
Not sure there is anything United can do here at all - we did well to spot him and Peck a year ago and felt we had a few players with potential even though Arsenal released. There is always a worry that bigger clubs can just come in and blow teams lower down. Didn't Chelsea do the same with a young player at Villa recently?
