JD, is that book a good read? Thought about getting it myself
Just finished it last night. It is quite interesting, but I wouldn't advise anyone to rush out and buy it unless they're already into football autobiography. Many of the topics are already covered in the Guardian articles and simply expanded upon here, but what's left is still good insight into the life of a pro footballer from someone who has far more to offer than most players.
The chapter on the role of agents is possibly the freshest voice in the book. Essentially explaining how both clubs and players use them to their own ends, and tapping-up isn't an occasional thing, but fundamentally how the transfer system works. If you recall the BBC Panorama in which Harry R is recorded speaking to agents about other clubs' players, with the unproven implication being that the agent then taps up the player... Basically, that's the norm. McCabe might do well to read that section (or just speak to Dave about it).
