With the way our other new lads up front are playing, can you see Danny changing the starting line up unless injury forces it? If so, who would you leave out to make room for him?

I guess he's another option up front. Cresswell made a difference yesterday but I wouldn't say that cofie should be dropped (unless his injury doesn't improve)

Wilson was able to alter the way the forwards and bring in a different style of player which created problems for Bournemouth.

So kitson brings something different again

No can't see it, I don't for a minute think Danny Wilson wants Kitson near the team after his comments on ageing strikers a few weeks back. The Kitson signing to me smacks of meddling by some of the McCabe family who he is reported to be friends with. Or the signing is a sweetener for the loss of Quinn, Kitsons record over the past four years is abysmal .............. average 1 goal every 6 games.

My view is that Wilson is on track for a top two finish, provided that he doesn't walk away as at Swindon. If United truly want promotion, don't pull the rug from under Danny by selling his players; above all DO NOT meddle with interfering and forcing signings he does not want. Of course I have no proof that anyone has done this. Just saying like.

Stikers goal records dont show "appearances " as subs as different, hes had many 10 minute cameos in those stats, not defending him just bare stats dont tell everything

Strikers aree all about confidence , as Torres has shown of late (atletico game apart)

We put a series of good balls into the box yesterday. The full backs got forward well and even when McDonald had the ball, he'd often look to the flanks when within shooting difference.

Do that with Kitson in the box and we'll score plenty. I think the bigger question is where it leaves Porter. He's certainly fifth choice for me now.

Another option would possibly be to have Blackman working off Cofie and Kitson in a role similar to Quinn's. He's played in midfield in the past I believe.

Only 5th? ;)

ha, yeah... I'll not put Miller nor Ironside in front of him yet.

If we get the Kitson who played for Reading it will be a good signing, if we get the Stoke or Portsmouth version then oh dear :tumbleweed: It will be interesting to see if Danny can revive the good version when the signing of Beattie was an absolute disaster last season.

He revived Evans but he is much younger than Kitson.

It could either be he gets his confidence back and starts scoring or he is really is past his best like Beattie.

It's actually 20 goals in 82 league starts since July 2008.
So just short of 1 goal in every 4 games at Premiership/Championship level.
Not exactly "abysmal".

The thing he will offer is experience and nous, just like Cressy. Cressy's goal on Sat was a triumph of experience - knowing how to use his body to make sure he would win the header. If Kitson can do the same sort of thing, he'll do OK

James Beattie mark II. Unfit, over the hill and out of form. He is lacking match fitness, sharpness and probably confidence. We've brought him into to sit on the bench (if that). I predict another Beattie (though maybe not quite as bad). A few cameo appearences, where he does fuck all. Disappointment if he does ever get a start. Thought we'd learnt, but clearly the McCabe's haven't. Waste of a salary.

I can't believe we've got six senior strikers in the squad now, if you count Cofie as senior, plus Ironside. All are out and out strikers too, I think. Seems a bit top heavy to me.

Still only 4 goals last season in 35 appearances just short of one goal every 9 games

Shall we just wait and see instead of writing him off before he has even kicked a ball? How do you know whether he will be fit and ready before he has even completed his first training session with us?

His contract is only until 31 December - although given how long you have given before judging him, that must seem like a lifetime!

The goals have to come from somewhere and we didn't land someone like Beavon to be our expected consistent goalscorer like Evans. We are hoping Blackman becomes that sort of striker.

I would like to see us top heavy at Wembley for a change .
Whenever we manage to get there our strikers are either injured, suspended or in jail. While the opposition has their full complement.

Dave Kitson is a man who has experience, talent and goals in him. At 32 he should still be able to play a bit, especially given this is League 1 and his game isn't revolved around pace anyway. He's a player who I think if he wanted to and put the work in, could offer an awful lot to a club in our position, in terms of passing on knowledge to the young lads and doing a Cresswell like (but better) job up top.

However if any of you read The Guardian's Secret Footballer columns (and I'm 90% sure that it is him) you'll probably learn a lot more about Dave Kitson and on the back of what I've read in those columns, heard about him in the press and seen of him in interviews, I'm not entirely sure he's the ideal man to have around this young squad... (I can elaborate on this if you wish)

This is a player who in his signing on interview said words to the effect of

"...simon mccabe had a chat with me, i'm good mates with him... i didn't know what i wanted but i had nothing to do and it's only short term which suits me... I might decide I want to play abroad after this little stint" etc..

He was honest to be fair to him and he's very articulate which is a refreshing change, but he just really doesn't sound like a man on a mission, with any ambition or with anything to prove. In fact he sounds like exactly what I think he is, a player who's done his bit, had his day, made his money and is now happy to fizzle out his career whilst still picking up a wage. It surprises me that he's doing this in the North of the country though, as he cited the location of Stoke as being the reason for his major career downfall as he and his wife are very South-orientated.

A mixture of things and I think they're mainly to do with his mental state (or illness, if indeed he is the TSF and has suffered from depression) have affected his attitude towards the game and it's for this reason that at only 32 years old he finds himself signing a 3 month contract at a League 1 club. And to me the noises coming from Camp Kitson aren't suggestive of a major turnaround in his downward trends. Hope very much that I'm wrong.

Are you sure TSF isn't Andy Johnson (the ex-Palace/Everton/Fulham striker)? Or someone different entirely? Think TSF has played more years in the Prem than Kitson if you read between the lines.

might put him at centre half after saturday..;)

I think The Secret Footballer changes the odd detail to make his character more of a secret but there is a huge amount of evidence suggesting it is Kitson (AJ was the only other contender in my mind).

So many details do fit throughout the articles to Kitson. And the fact he is articulate, likes writing, seems 'Guardianesque' ... For me it's Kitson. Johnson hasn't really suffered a plight like he has either.

Nearly finished the book, in which he mentions that he's friends with the chairman of a big northern club. This chairman told him how he sees himself as a "custodian more than as an owner".

Now I know "big" is stretching things these days, but I think I've heard McCabe talk in that fashion, and we all know how Kitson came to be here...

Besides, how many truly big northern clubs have owners whom a plain old footballer is likely to be friends with, and who would talk in such terms? Everton is the only likely candidate, then we're down to the pretenders...

Circumstantial evidence mounts. :)

Now that's just letting the facts get in the way of a pop at McCabe!

How many of those were substitute appearances, and do you know exactly what role he was used in. It's just possible he wasn't used as an out and out striker in some of those matches.

As mentioned by someone else already on this thread, it may be that he could be used behind the front two in the same way that Quinn was of late.

We now have quite a few strikers for a change and I think it is likely that some will be used in slightly different roles.

i think he will be a usefull aqusition its a shame we automatically look for something dodgy with these kind of transfers but then again weve been burnt in the past
