Wilder's Reaction

From Wilder's perspective, in the longer term, he might well know that this is probably his first and last crack at the Premier League where his reputation will be based on this season and none of the ones before it where any future clubs will be put right off knowing if things go badly, it goes catastrophically wrong.

"Cancel culture" is the modern day term for it, the same as if someone has posted something offensive on twitter and suddenly get dropped by record label/taken off tv/lose sponsors, delete as applicable never to be seen again until they end up in panto or in the jungle scrambling around for any remnants of what they had before.

Paul Jewell took Derby down and took a long time to resurface again and Wilder might be fearing the worst for whatever the future might hold for him.

'He repeatedly says we don't have or show comparable quality, and we don't /can't create those special goal scoring moments that xxxxx can. I heard that as him acknowledging we're substandard and the continued defeats are of little surprise. Hence only a fool would now expect anything different and this season hasn't bottomed out yet.'

Great take that FlamingLip

His post match interviews are basically saying my players I signed are not as good as every other teams players. They don't have the quality.

He is basically saying we should lose every game. It was proper white flag interview yesterday and he sounded broken.

Not sure what he can say?

Maybe 'these lads can do better...I can do better...We are going to keep working and trying our damnest as I feel for our proud fans in where we are. We will jeep fighting and are determjned not to just roll over etc'

Ultimately though post/pre match interviews matter little. It's about what we do on the pitch.

One thing that I disagree with is him saying they are still trying their best etc and working really hard. I am not saying they've given up or even stopped playing for him but the last few games I thought that they could have tried harder/run more and shown more effort. I thought the body language of the players as they troooed off was awful - don't expect anything else- and the players looked like they just don't want to be playing football anymore. I worry psychologically the affect this may have on many in terms of their careers. No footballer ever has bee through what these lads have been through. Noone has had a worse start in football history.

Baldock was brave to front up post game but sounded like he was abput to burst into tears. It's painful to watch.

FFS as club we are poles apart from Leicester City ex PL Champions
They have a much larger transfer and wages budget, they are a much more attractive proposition when attracting players. We sacked Warnock and Blackwell (I was not a fan) and look how that turned out
The irony is that Ranieri tried to change the system that had been so successful in the previous season, because he thought they couldn’t play like that in Europe. That turned the senior players against him as he was asking them to play a style they couldn’t really do and didn’t suit them.

CW sounded pretty crestfallen. Probably the worst interview I have heard him give, sadly. He knows his signings have failed, he knows we dont have the quality to stay up and he is pretty stuck.

He's earned the right to have an extended period to try and turn this disasterous season around. He hasn't earned the right to still be in a job after W0 D2 L13
might as well sack him now then if thats your view hes taken us up from the championship once what makes you think he couldnt do it again ?

We had 4 seasons when our team basically surfed on Chris Wilder’s passion and emotion for Sheffield United. When things got shaky there was always this rock of certainty beneath them that gave them self-belief to hang in and come through - battered at Weeds then Basham arriving ... pick your own moment.

What we have now is a Chris who has lost some of his self-belief. That feeds through to the players as uncertainty and makes their decision-making slow and worried, rather than immediate and certain.

When this happens it is why clubs turn to the “keep you up” managers, who get results because their style is simple and certain. The improvement is then not due to the style, but to the removal of uncertainty and worry from the decision-making.

We play complex football, which requires a series of players to make a sequence of good decisions - the slightest error in that chain of decisions breaks down the process. Uncertainty breeds those slow, bad decisions.

So we need to put certainty and confidence back into our team - and it can happen in 3 ways.

1. Chris is replaced by a manager with a less complex approach.

or 2. Chris and Alan themselves find a simpler approach to rebuild the players’ certainty and self-confidence.

or 3. We get relegated and against poorer opposition the improved results will rebuild the certainty in the way we go about our business.

Perish the thought we go for 1 above, I don’t think Chris is about to go for 2, so if we have a patient ownership, fanbase, and a body of players and coaching staff willing to stay with the plan then 3, the classic yoyo approach, will see us coming back better and more confident than before.

Real Magic is a Long-Term Project.
I think what really isn't helping is the lack of fans.

Sure it would have prevented the loss to Leeds, maybe got us a point against the 'Heath and we would be down there but not so far adrift we might as well be a bit of space junk.

FELLOW BLADES ..... I'm not sure what we are expecting from our Club or manager. We cannot afford the fees or wages of the "finished article" and therefore we have to buy with the future in mind.
Hence; McBurnie, Brewster, Burke, Bogle, Lowe, Berge, Ramsdale. But young players under tremendous pressure don't always deliver and this is the issue we face.
Add that to the loss of O'Connell ( who is pivotal to our style of play) plus the dreadful form /performances from the stalwarts of last season; Fleck, Basham, Egan, Stevens, Norwood, Sharp, Lundstram and we have the "perfect storm. Let's be honest here ..... our defending has been gash !!

My take on this ....... I have supported the Blades for 56 years and I've seen real shit !! Last season we over-achieved and some have had "above-sensible" expectations given the realistic budgetary constraints of the Club, injuries and don't under-estimate the effect that no fans has had on our players. (they aren't PL superstars)

Man the fuck up and support the Club, the Manager and the Team through thick and thin, even when we're embarrassed and pissed off. We're almost certainly relegated now so we build for next season and try to bounce back and gain a foothold.

I would rather be a Blade than a pig every day of the week and at least we admit when we're crap, we don't cheat or rely on friends in high places to get us out of the shit and we know that we are not massive.

Fuck 2020!! Fuck the PL!! COYRAWW

Nail on head. That's the best short description of the problem I've seen as far as I'm concerned

Leicester didn't do too badly after sacking Ranieri did they?

Why do we think that this club can't exist without Wilder?

It's SUFC, not Wilder FC
I'd love to have Ranieri
Sadly he has style and class, everything that we hate

As been pointed out before - we're not staring a regular 'well played, hard lines' relegation in the face. We're tickling the bollocks of a devastating historical PhD-research-worthy monumental sporting collapse. No manager or set of players will have had this to deal with and the toxic consequences.

Pundits and sports writers will peddle the most lazily provocative gutter journalism in our direction. Manager, players and club will get crucified.

Media interview example: 'so then Chris, tell me how it feels to have been at the head of the worst ever professional team sport season anywhere on record? Haha I'm sure there's one or two managers out there that would love to know your secret!'

Once respected, he'll be ridiculed. I think the press are currently going very easy on us due to how they look mugs with how much praise they poured last year. Once we've been swept up and binned off they'll stick every knife in possible. With a twist with every non victory next season. And this is without considering how our own fans will react once allowed back in.

It would make the possibility of a quick bounce back seem as likely as survival is this season.

😆 What have you been drinking!

How have you come to that conclusion ?
We came up from L1 to the Championship with style ,class and 100 points
We got promoted to the PL with some breathtaking football
We were lauded last season for our play in the top flight

Youre talking bollocks again

Get big fat fucking Sam in

So here's the issue, from my perspective:

A change of manager alone, doesn't fix this, IMO. To suggest it or to expect it, is shortsightedness. The squad depth, squad confidence, squad options (lack of CAMs, wingers and a plan B) are all bigger and harder to fix than a change of manager, and spending in a transfer window. Yes, criticism for that lack of depth can be aimed at the manager and the recruitment.

That said, if we accept that this is, therefore a big project, and that spunkin' moneh in January and/or appointing a new manager alone isn't the solution, then I don't want to see Chris go.

Why? Because I would trust noone more in the Championship. I'm now not setting my hopes on scrambling a last chance PL survival, I'm thinking of the longevity of my club. Wilder is more than capable in the Championship. In contrast, a new manager needs to come in, learn the club, impart their ways and vision, to spend and to build. There's no guarantee they will get that right. In the meantime, we could be in free-fall.

What I will say is that we are all learning at this level, we're all newcomers and we're only one season in - fans, owners, management and players. Last season was incredible, but it's gone. I wonder though, whether it can help us now. I can only imagine how hard it must be when you're trying to play your system, your way, and it isn't leading to 3 points. So in recent weeks, I've been thinking about the ethos of the club, how do we take it back to basics? As a squad, when are we at our best, when were we at our best last season? How did we try to play, what qualities did we show, how can we try to reintroduce those qualities into our play again? What were we doing when we were 'at it' the most? Can we take small steps towards regaining all of that? I believe John Egan wrote a song about it? Something about playing proper football, the Sheff United way...

There may well be an inquest into squad depth, recruitment, spending, lack of tactical options - and rightly so, given what's at stake and what we've spent - but that doesn't mean that heads need to roll and it doesn't mean anyone else could do a better job - we need to remember where we've come from, what we've achieved and remember that that should be respected. We're on this journey together and learning together. If we need to go down, to build and come back stronger for the experience, then so be it - it worked for Burnley.

i love you son of Kozzy. xx ❤️❤️❤️

I disagree.
It was obvious JoC wasn't right - CW looked at Kongolo (who still isn't fit BTW), then decided what we've got is enough. It isn't.
Wasn't prepared to give Lunny what he wanted. Made a low-ball offer for Swift but when that got knocked back just gave up on another replacement.
Could have signed Toney or Armstrong but wasted £20m+ on Brewster instead.
Keeps going on about lack of quality, but who signed the majority of these players?
Perhaps not obvious to the medical team whose opinion CW has to accept.
Fleck and others have simply not performed to their own standards and that cannot be Wilder’s fault (?)
Who knows how good Brewster will be or whether any of those you mention would have been any better in a poorly performing team.
