From Wilder's perspective, in the longer term, he might well know that this is probably his first and last crack at the Premier League where his reputation will be based on this season and none of the ones before it where any future clubs will be put right off knowing if things go badly, it goes catastrophically wrong.
"Cancel culture" is the modern day term for it, the same as if someone has posted something offensive on twitter and suddenly get dropped by record label/taken off tv/lose sponsors, delete as applicable never to be seen again until they end up in panto or in the jungle scrambling around for any remnants of what they had before.
Paul Jewell took Derby down and took a long time to resurface again and Wilder might be fearing the worst for whatever the future might hold for him.
