There's no way the club would just hand over 4 million if it didn't need to. I don't understand how people think the Prince/club were held hostage by Wilder here. It's a business. It would all be iron clad stuff.

The Prince intimated in his interview he didn’t agree to £4m but he will have had a good pay off to go.
Football is not a normal business and contracts don’t hold the same weight as they would in normal life.
Players have some value for one thing so sacking them comes with a financial consequence.
For Managers it’s often easier to give them some cash to p*ss off than to go down the legal route, especially if they’ve been cute about working their way out of the club.
We talk about football as a business but really it’s anything but.

I really, really don't understand why anyone thinks Wilder is the answer, or even thinks we should consider re-employing him.

I do think we need a change...not cos of any negatives about Hecky, just because I think we've reached a point where something has to change, and the obvious "thing" is the manager.

But Wilder left the club under a black cloud. Yes, he worked miracles for 4 years, and gave us some incredible highs. I will go to my grave maintaining that had it not been for Covid, we would have qualified for Europe in 2019/2020. We were playing incredible football, beating teams that we had no right to, and generally upsetting the "establishment" apple cart left, right and centre.

All that said, he's done fuck all of note since leaving us. There is nothing to suggest he is any better of a manager than he was in March 2021.

If the club wants to move forward following the inevitable relegation this season, we need to look to the future, not the past. We need to get out of this archaic mindset of "well, he's a Blade, so he must be good." It's the same as when people talk about Billy Sharp, and how we should have kept him. He scored 2 goals in the Championship last season. What reason is there to think he would have made a difference this season, a year older and a level higher?

We as a fanbase seem to have an obsession with the past. People laud Basset, and Wilder, as if they were Pep, or Alex Ferguson. They were the right men at the time, but for fucks sake surely we can aspire to be better than some sort of old-school, agricultural team of cloggers and try-hards!?

IF Hecky gets the boot, then look for a young, hungry manager in the lower leagues with something to prove. I have no idea who it might be, because I don't really pay much attention to football outside United, but there must be someone out there who would jump at the chance to manage a big, historic club and try and make a name for himself? This season can't get any worse. We're fucked. We're going down, possibly as the worst team in premier league history, so there's not a lot to lose for the next 6 months. Get someone in who can spend that time assessing the squad, the players and the system, and change what needs to be changed.

We need to let go of the past, of the "we're reyt scrappers us, we might be shit but we're well 'ard" mentality, and move forward. Wilder is not the way to do that. Fuck knows who is, but it's not him.

He said in the interview he didn’t give him that amount, no one knows the exact amount.
Football contracts are often not enforced for various reasons, it’s not a normal business.
How many players or managers get sacked for gross misconduct - hardly any.

When I first started this thread will all the noises been made I thought he would have been in place by now. I think his first job is to actually get the job. Fwiw I’m on the fence if he is reappointed, just leaves a sour taste in how it all ended last time. I think a loss this weekend will be the last time we see Hecky unfortunately. We do need a shake up however.

I know for a fact everything he said was gone through by the clubs lawyers and evidenced with meeting minutes and so on in readiness for litigation had Wilder said otherwise.
Wilder tried to damage the club and the fans relationship with it to get what he wanted so the Prince had to get the facts out there.
As has already been said even if there was an NDA in place it doesn’t allow for the signee to be libelled so if the Princes interview wasn’t correct CW was free to speak out.
He didn’t because he would likely have lost the payout he got through court action.
Football is a strange industry in that if someone doesn’t want to stick around and causes trouble it’s often easier to pay them off than sack them.

Where you can still crit is our performances can still be far better even with what we have available.
