It can be interpreted in whatever way people choose to suit an argument, as pommpey has done. However, the reality is that he has played on loan since August/ September, done really well and the deal was always going through in Jan on a permanent deal. Theres nothing wrong with doing what the club has done and announce that it has been ratified. They've certainly not dressed it up as a new signing.
Did we win? Did we play well?
Of course it was the wrong team. You can't just throw 11 players together who have never played together before in a formation that some of them can't play in and expect it to work. It's not like we have a reserve side where they all play together regularly

That is exactly right, but we as supporters condone it because we don't want any of our main players getting injured etc in the search for the holy grail of premiership football. I've wasted the last of my money today on what was back in the day, our premier cup competition. I expect in a few years for it to have quietly faded away.
Haha my thoughts aswell! What a silly sausageDo they allow eleven subs in the f.a cup ?
I don’t consider today a waste of money. I bought a ticket. It cost only a fiver and I got 150 loyalty points for it. I didn’t go to the match - no intention of going. I went for a lovely walk and had a nice pub lunch and a couple of pints. It was a beautiful day for a walk y’know?
I don’t agree with that. U23s isn’t comparable to National League. Premier League U23s is almost a non contact sport played by kids who get paid too much, the conference is full of men who have bills to pay and who know how to leave one on you.Dowell has been playing week in week out for Everton U23s.
He has had more than enough minutes this season. Baring in mind the Premiership U23s are a higher standard than Barnet. Or at least similar.
First game for a new club, he should have been busting his bollocks off in effort. Sorry but I didn’t see it .
It was a team largely made up of players he’s signed as well.Great comments from Wilder. However he picked that team so some of the blame also lies with him.
I am old enough to remember the old Central League,a full 42 match season, midweek matches every week for the reserve team players against top teams in the North and Midlands. It was good quality 'mens' football and if needed the players were 'match' fit, nowadays the senior second string players might get a few minutes of first team football or the odd game with the U23's.It is ok to accommodate the odd fringe player without too much disturbance, but to put eleven together and expect them to perform as a team is ridiculous.Did we win? Did we play well?

He said he felt sorry for dowell and that he will be a really good player for us.
A fairly cowardly response from a manager.
A manager who picked the wrong team yet has accepted no blame.
A manager who has just written off his new loan signing and a player making his debut
A manager who has written off a player whose contract he has recently extended
A manager too cowardly to answer a direct question about his next signing
There needed to be a strong response, but to merely chuck the whole team under a bus is a bit pathetic.
Have you actually listened to the interview? Judging by your ill informed comments I'd say you haven't. How can you possibly claim he's 'written off his new loan signing' when he actually singled him out for praise and said 'he'll be a big player for us'. Anyone with common sense knows he was specifically targeting senior players, who are (or rather were) pushing for a start.
If you wish to actually listen to the interview so your post is based on facts I suggest you head to the football heaven website.
It's his job to put a team out to play well, have them know their roles and be motivated to put a shift in - they didn't.I have to disagree with a lot of the comments on this thread.
Yes of course CW picked the team, and yes he made 10 changes. However the team should still have been more than good enough to beat non league opposition. The reason they weren't was down to their attitude pure and simple. Yes, playing together can add cohesion and help performance, but that wasn't the issue today. It was a case of the players going through the motions and showing arrogance. Wilders comments perfectly reflected my summing up of the game with my lads afterwards in the car home.
Wilder isn't a bloody mind reader. He isn't to know what the attitude is going to be from the players until they cross that white line on the day. He's given them a chance today and the vast majority let him down. I have no issue at all with the side he picked today, cos believe it or not, we do have bigger fish to fry this season. If I have the choice between losing today or losing at Wigan away last game, I would choose today all day long. The league is our priority all day long and we have given most of the first team a day off after a busy period and given game time to the lads on the edge of things. Some didn't take that chance, but to hear some on here have a pop at Dowell and Bryan, is fkin ridiculous. They just made their fkin debuts.
Imo CW was bang on correct in his team selection today, and the game was to be played again tomorrow, I would want him to pick the same team again. The vast majority have let him and us down today.
What today did show me was that again, we can have a tendency to over play things and be so slow to break and have a slow tempo when things aren't going well. There was fuk all urgency today and part of the problem today was Coutts and Lundstrum. Why take 3 touches when 30 will do....oh and Clarke had a fkin shocker as well.
Be fair to him ,hes been dying to post that for 2 and a half years ,since he told us all wilder was rubbish and we should never have him as manager.Have you actually listened to the interview? Wilder picked the side and takes no responsibility?
Puts all the blame on the players?
Ok. In Wilder we trust I guess (unless he's on about signing Public Enemy Number One of course, then he's not quite the Messiah)
Nah he’s still the messiah, there is no reason not to trust in him. It feels like People are looking for things to get angry about because things are so good.
In the grand scheme of where we are as a club it’s amazing. If he says sign Madine the sign the fucker. Could care less what he’s done or played for. End of the day if CW says this is who we need to take us to the prem then what reason has he given me to doubt him?
It's his job to put a team out to play well, have them know their roles and be motivated to put a shift in - they didn't.
He even rightly put some of the blame on himself.
The blame lies with the players. CW was entitled to expect a much, much better performance from them.Great comments from Wilder. However he picked that team so some of the blame also lies with him.
I believe he will sort it, just also think when you lose to a team more than a division bellow you, the team are not properly motivated. He takes some blame for that, as well as the players who played like shit. It's his job to put together a squad of players and to try and get the highest levels of performance out of those individuals over a period of time. That's what management is all about. Maximising the performance of the individuals who you manage.
Wilder's given the players the platform and the resources for them to be able to fulfil their potential today, given them his trust, overseen them in training and given them advice during the game. He knows his squad and done what he thought was the right thing to do today.
However, sometimes individuals who you manage have bad days, don't do what you expect them to do, or may even let you down (I know because it has happened to me occasionally in my many years of man management in my business). It happens. Sometimes when you least expect it.
What's important is how you react and what you do to ensure that mistakes arent repeated, including a kick up the arse for some of your staff from time to time if it's deserved. You can believe in your team, give them all the tools they need to do the job, and give them advice and encouragement, but if they choose to ignore you or they can't be arsed, then that's when a good manager knows how to sort it. Wilder will sort it.

Well, I've read the comments and it seems you're right. Wilder sent out a hugely changed team who, totally surprisingly, didn't play as a coherent unit (useless wankers!).
But the good news is that he had the good sense to take no responsibility for himself.
Phew.
After all, it's just the Cup, and we don't give a flying fuck about it.
Just because it’s a changed squad makes no difference whatsoever
Old agendas getting a good airing today. They can’t wait to come out of the cupboardSo you’re using today’s result and performance to have a go at general recruitment which hasn’t yet happened. Gotcha now
The fact remains that we’ve rubber stamped the Norwood deal this week and why not celebrate it. He’s a hell of a signing for a side that just does budget cheapo loans
As for today’s XI, many or most of them have played their part already this season. So there is some depth to the squad. They were just shit today.
