Wilder's celebration at the end

No doubt it's a massive result, and the opponents being Oxford adds something extra to it for him.

But I think he would've celebrated like that whoever we were playing. We've put ourselves in a pretty unassailable position tonight.

Also think he wanted to really salute the fans. It was a very strong away following from us.

Anyone would think it meant something to him...

What a great thing to see. Even Warnock never celebrated like that.

He knows how big that result is.

I'm in complete agreement with you there Ricky . Wilders reaction tonight confirms what a lot of us feel aswell ..... there's something about the win tonight that is season defining .

I'm going to commit heresy here , but when I saw the way we lined up tonight I felt CW was exhibiting a little bit of nervousness . Wright going off and them scoring immediately however forced a change in formation . Going in at half time 1-0 down also gave him the impetus to change things even further with Lavary correctly replacing Hanson up top . The rest , as they say , is history .

I think we are going to be treated to some outstanding displays now for the rest of the season :D

Warnock's passion descended far too often into buffoonery and embarrassment. Tufty always stays the right side. He is very impressive. I'm glad he saluted the 1600 of you who went. That's very impressive. Well done to you all.

Just got back (shutting the M1 at Northampton grrrrrr) and the reaction from Wilder was fantastic, I stuck around at the end even though I knew it would be a knightmare are getting out of the car park. I had a feeling he would react like that more because it was such an important victory rather than the oxford connection.

I feel that 4 points from 2 tough away games is fantastic and I now believe we have done enough (famous last words). I will say I though it was Fleck's poorest game for us tonight and it took until the 60th minute for corruthers to get going. I don't care though because the points are what matters.

I'd say it's more to do with the ex club and the shit they gave him for leaving.

That's not to say it doesn't mean anything to him to be successful and win matches with United, but this was personal and one he no doubt was especially pleased to win.

Which thread was the Tufty celebration video on - I watched it earlier but now I can't find it.

It was a game that we just didn't look like winning at 1-0.

But we controlled most of the game after their goal, and Lavery's introduction really changed the game. He gives us a completely different dimension. It wasn't working with Hanson and Sharp. People say the build up is down to the midfield and the strikers aren't to blame if chances aren't being created, but the strikers can have a massive influence in the build up play, Lavery proved it tonight. Our team is more suited to someone like him than someone like Hanson, more often than not.

Oxford had every one of their key players on the pitch, who were doubts before the game (Rob Hall's a good player). It was a very attacking line up from them. It looked like we'd have our hands full to win the game, so to come out and score 3 like that and go on to win really was a bonus. I wouldn't say we played particularly well either so to get that result in a tough game is impressive.
Definitely the sort of result that suggests you're going to be promoted.

Also, a shout out to Aaron Ramsdale. He meant what he said in that message that he posted after he left. He was stood near me tonight, chanting and supporting the team just like everybody else.

I wasn't there, so would welcome your views. What did Lavery do that was particularly impressive, please? He's a player to watch for the future in my view and only going to get bettter. I have high hopes for the lad.

Secondly, when you say we didn't play particularly well, presumably you mean by the very high standards they have set this season? I think there's a danger that people (not necessarily yourself) are beginning to expect excellence as a minimum standard. I hope that becomes a reality but I think we need to cut some slack when a very good team falls below its benchmark standard from time to time, I've seen 'dire' and 'crap' tonight and 'gash' in the recent past. Such terms are neither accurate nor fair in relation to this particular Blades team.

Agree about Lavery. We were knocking balls over the top first half and not looking like getting owt (neither did they, their first goal was the result of us switching off at the back). Lavery gave a bit of depth to our attack, stretched their defence, and made space for Sharp to thrive.

PS That ground is less accessible than Alpha Centaurii. Thanks fuck we won't be back there for a few years.

Yes, by the standards we've set and what I know this team to be capable of. The pitch was a factor though. It took a bit of time, but we got to grips with it.

Lavery gave us more movement, got involved in the build up play, often out wide, and quickened our attacking play. He won us the corner for the equaliser. The team looked better with him on the pitch. He's better for the midfield, and better for Sharp, IMO at least.

Yeah it was did you go ?

I very rarely overreact, and that first half was poor – and really odd given the first 5 minutes it looked like we were going to slice them apart at will, two really good openings (Freeman should have had a go at goal rather than cut back). We dipped a little before the goal, but when that happened we had a really dodgy spell for the rest of the half. Fleck passing into touch under no pressure, Coutts and EEL giving it straight to the opposition, Carruthers running into blind alleys, ball-control failing for everyone – it all happened at once. Add to that we seemed to start to lose our heads a bit in reaction to some of the refereeing.

We did really well to pick ourselves back up, because we went in at half-time looking like this might have been one we weren't going to get back. Lavery helped galvanise the team – he immediately showed some great control and direct running that stretched their defence. We simply hadn't had that first half.

Agree with all that. I was there last night and that is exactly how I saw it too.

I like Hanson he's a big asset and I'm pleased we have him to mix it up and for the extra height and strength up front that he gives us if it is necessary. However we shouldn't be afraid to mix it up a bit and change Big H for Lavs if the match and tactic's merit it. Last night did.

It's just nice that we have both option's in our armoury - kudos to Sir Christopher of Bramall for his squad strengthening.

At least it sounds like we started well in the second half. In recent weeks it is the first 15 minutes of the second half where we have been poor after a good first half.

Warnock is a Blades fan and was a great manager for the Blades.

Wilder is a Blades fan and is becoming a great manager for the Blades.

I'm not sure why it's apparently not possible to praise Wilder and enjoy the current success without making unflattering comparisons with our only previously successful managers.

Chris Wilder is a Sheffield United supporter.

Neil Warnock was a Neil Warnock fan.

Great analogy Tyler .

Warnock did and still likes the limelight whereas Wilder even when we are in the championship will keep a low profile .

The touching of the badge was done with pride and relief last night . That result was a statement to the rest

Neil Warnocks actions in November 2005 tell you all you need to know about how much of a mega-Blade he is. Not to mention his attitude towards us since and the fact that he was practically begging for the Wednesday job not long back. Anything to raise his own profile.

Wilder has genuine character.

It really hit home how lucky we are that Bramall Lane is so accessible via public transport. I managed an impromptu taxi share with 4 other blades from the station, but that took an age and involved a walk from the bypass. I got to my seat about 30 seconds before kickoff. The bus back to the station saw me miss the train I was supposed to get. I got home to London at about 1am. It probably would have been easier to drive to Sheffield...

For a stand that is completely open at one end, it's inexplicably inaccessible. But it was very much worth it.

My brother is a good friend of Wilder. Known him since they were lads, and to call him a genuine blade is a understatement. Chris is as big of a blade than anyone, before he was made manager. My brother and me for that matter , are so happy for him. He's living the dream

It's possible to acknowledge the 3/4 good or successful seasons under Warnock whilst still being able to acknowledge his flaws.
