Wilders biggest test in 3 years

Chrissy Wilder is God, and in God we trust. CWAK will sort it out. We finished 9th last season, so why wouldn't we win the whole PL this time? No room for any criticism here, it's never due nor granted, and Wilder is perfect just as is Lunny. Should you disagree, you can go on and start your own message board. "Zero tolerance." F*K you wrist-slashing homophobes!

We scored against Burnley. You’re ignoring that because it makes your argument look better

We scored, we scored, we scored agaisnt Burnley
We scored, we scored, we scored against Burnley
But it was in that d--d cup
We scored, we scored, we scored against Burnley
We scored, we scored, we scored against Burnley
But none gives a f*ck

We scored, we scored, we scored against Burnley
MacBee took his pen, he’s sh*te

We scored, we scored, we scored against Burnley
But Mac missing is quite all right
Cos we scored, we scored, we scored against Burnley
Yea, we scored, we scored, we scored against the mighty Burnley
Now Lunny takes the spot
We scored, we scored, we scored agaisnt Burnley ... ...

Spot on. There is no nuance in discussion anymore and it gets personal.

I thought we'd really struggle last season and stated so, delighted to be proved wrong though feel the same again though won't get involved

I was quietly confident last summer that we'd be fine although would never have predicted 9th.

This time I feel more concerned. Our best 11 is no stronger and whilst we have more squad depth, we still lack enough creativity and goals. Our defensive record was amazing last season and it was always going to be hard to replicate that even with Henderson.

Without a notable improvement in goals for this time then a tougher season was likely.

At the risk of being branded a bedwetter I wouldn't be putting much on us staying up at this stage.

Then again I said months ago we had to be realistic as a fan base and with our finances we would struggle to compete regularly and may have to consider dropping down and coming back a la Burnley and West Brom. That was deemed negative and not trusting Wilder by some.

Bedwetting works both ways.

The concerns aren't losing two matches. It's about more than that.

Serious question do you want us to fail/ go down? We have played 2 games out of 38 game season

No. But I'm not gonna paper over the cracks that have appeared. I'd rather plaster it so its repaired for longer...

A view from a distance:
Hopes:

  • Wilder is a class manager with a heart for the club, he can turn this around
  • better have a wake up call now with still enough time on the transfer market
  • a lot of fight in the team with 10 vs 11, that mentality and togetherness will be very important and is an asset teams like fulham, west brom, west ham don’t seem to have.

Worries:

  • 2nd season is always harder after promotion
  • Team that performed above potential for 2 seasons in a row needs fresh blood
  • new goalkeeper seems less a point saver than Henderson but early days yet. Find it hard to understand to spend 20 mio on a goalkeeper if you could buy Dennis for that amount and have a real game changer up front
  • Need some quality up front which is also a hope that this will be sorted soon.

No need to panic, but 0/6 and early exit in the league Cup does need to raise some action on the transfer market to avoid a real relegation fight I think.

How exactly do you propose to plaster the cracks or whatever? At present you're shitting yourself on an internet forum and I'm not sure I see how this helps matters.

We are favourites to go down. We will be every year given our transfer and wage budgets. Hopefully we can achieve the miracle of fourth bottom again. I was very pleased with the front players and defence today given the situation. Delighted with Burke's performance. If that's his level for the rest of his time at United this signing will be seen as another masterstroke.
The opening poster should drop the "don't look like scoring" nonsense as we had opportunities in all the games this season and a ton against Southampton. I don't even have to check the other games to know that's nonsense.

I think our main problem is the lack of a crowd.

For some reason this seems to be affecting us more than other sides.

Difficult to judge today's game because we were a man down for so long, but in general, since the restart last season we don't seem to have quite the same intensity.

We have played 12 league games in the new fanless world and lost 7 of them. That is as many as we lost in the 28 games played before the programme was suspended.

I'm shitting myself? I'm stating hard facts, not papering over the cracks with excuses and bullshit "positives".

There is no positives in a loss.

The 3 right after we beat Spurs, Wolves, Chelsea and drew with Burnley? Get a fucking grip for christs sake

We've lost 2 games to start the season, it's not the first time, it most certainly won't be the last

1973-74

0-2 vs Burnley H and 0-2 vs Wolves A. Then a 2-1 win at Chelsea before a fabulous 5-0 demolition of Arsenal.

I'd start with 1 goal in the last 6 games, no clean sheets and no points.

We clearly are missing talent in the final 3rd, we was last season but the gritty wins covered that up for the most part.

We really need to roll the dice or we can't complain if we get sucked down back to the championship.

I have to agree, time to work to get something over the line.

FFS how old are you. People like you and JLS are the reason l look on this site less each day. If you got something negative to say at least do it in a constructive manner!

Moron.

Starts now. An amazing 3 years has now come to a close and Wilder will have the biggest test of his career now, everything's great when your winning games, the hardest thing to recover from is a run of losses, tipped to be good enough for the big clubs, time to prove himself on the otherside of the coin now.

6 competetive games lost in a row, no goals scored this season in the league, its gonna be a long season.

No, this isn't a slating Wilder thread, or a kneejerk reaction either. What he's done is remarkable, i really hope he has what it takes to get us out of this hole. I'm sure he does.
3 years ? 4 years mate !
Tempus Fugit , Moriarty !

Christ on a bike, nonsense bingo

Yeah dealing with a toxic fan base and no money.

I see us staying up and him walking away.

You will feel so important with this thread wont you ,a little bit of wee perhaps. Well done.
Hows Sebastien btw ,has Billy gone yet ?

Ok maybe I don't know much about football, you could be right

However, what I do know, we have lost our last 6 competitive games, scoring 2 goals, one in a nonsense cup competition and one in the PL. You don't have to be a genius at football to know that's not good.

We also are sat in the league table, as the only team this season to not score a goal. Yes we have only played 2 games but our next 4-5 fixtures look tougher than our first 2 games.
You don’t have to be a genius at football to (a) question why you’re using a sample of 6 - why 6 games? and (b) realise that 4 of this sample were in a completely different season and therefore, irrelevant.

This season will be a big test for Chris. Last season was brilliant until Covid struck.
The last few games and the two to start has me thinking something is missing.
Maybe after a few more matches we can get a better picture but after last night and the Wolves game it just feels like we lack a bloody striker who can score goals.

Where did all these people who shit themselves after a few losses go before the internet? Did they bottle it up inside? sound off in the pub? write letters to Dear Diedre? Shout at the Wife/Husband/dog? They cant all have rang up praise and grumble surely.

Jobless, again. Got laid off in March 👍

I'll be sure to tell him you asked.

I know it is slightly meaningless but if you transposed our last results against those teams next up we would have 2 points by the beginning of November incl Chelsea game. I think if you had asked fans before this season started we might have expected to have had maybe 10, 1 x draw Wolves 3 x wins Villa, Leeds Fulham.

So after 8 games it might be interesting.
