Wilder

Sufc logic is if they were good years ago give em a contract.

Besides if we give him a 1 year deal he will play loads better.
They gave him a one year extension at the start of this season and he became worse he is 33 now he was spent at 31.He should have played this season he is like playing with 10.

Do we blame the owner for agreeing to the contract or the bloke who continued picking him when he was dire and suggested we offered it him?

He has hardly played under Wilder! He come on in like the 85th minute!
Personally I think he shouldn't be on the match day squad, not even on the bench. And even he came in so late, he was involved in 3-2 goal right after.

More and more people are sharing the feeling things will get downhill the second they see Norwood coming on the pitch.

I know we have limited options in players, but if You watch what Norwood brought to the game. There ain't much to see nor much to add to the "Plus" side. Hard to see anything that other subs couldn't do.

Hopefully Wilder can learn from his mistakes and do better decisions in the future. Hecky didn't..

I think we should bring back our friend Pommpey to do his "My Take" on games until the end of the season. It would lighten the mood I for one would piss myself laughing just seeing how many different expletives he could use before repeating himself. His take on Norwood would be gloriously funny.

He was apparently at our (Stoke's) game today vs Udders. In case you're interested.

edit- he was with Keith Andrews, supposedly watching one of our players. Wouter Burger most likely

Given what you paid for him I doubt he’s the player we’re looking at.

Wonder what he thought when Keith asked him if he fancied a burger……

My points are pretty clear. I believe doubling our points per game during a season is very good?

Unless you think Hecky is absolutly terrible ?

Or you think our squad is good enough to achieve say 40 points.

I don’t see what much more we can get from this side.
I completely agree that we aren't good enough. There was a shitshow of a pre-season, and we set off completely on the wrong foot. This has continued under both managers, and ultimately is the responsibility of the owners. We have won 3 games out of 29, which is grim reading in anyone's book.
I didn't want Wilder to come back, and I don't want him to be here next season. There's no evidence that he can repeat what he did here in 2016-20. Hecky did get us promoted, but we'd both agree that he wasn't as good as Wilder at his peak. Hecky was also skewered by the Ndaiye/Berge situation. Results under Hecky ultimately left the owners with no real option except to sack him.
Where we disagree is what I'd say is your over-optimism about what Wilder has achieved. He's doubled the points per game, but from such a low level that the net effect is negligible. At times (10-20 minutes now and then, like on Saturday), the team manages to resemble a functioning football team, but occasionally this happened under Hecky too. I think that trying to manage this team poses lots of very difficult questions, but I don't think Chris Wilder is the answer, certainly not beyond the end of the season. I don't know who the answer is, and perhaps we have to go through some grief before we find out. For the remainder of this season I agree that we can't get or expect much more from this side.
Thanks for not turning a disagreement into an abusive rant. I was a bit harsh on you in a previous post, I was pissed off about the match and the whole shitshow of this season, and I apologise for my rant. You may not think that Wilder is god, but you can come across like you're his PR manager, which when things are as bad as they are, isn't always a good look!
UTB!!

Yeah and then we kept inexplicably giving him another bloody year! Really can’t remember a single thing of note he did for us
His best years were when he broke through about 18/19, Tonge was unplayable on the left wing for a couple of seasons. Lost his pace (can't remember why) and settled into a CM role where he wasn't as good.

This is when I started getting a ST and being a bladey blade.

He never had any pace he was found out.Man utd released him because it would always hold him back

And he was still miles better than Souza

That’s my memory of him. Tidy enough on the ball but nowhere near quick enough to make a difference in the Prem, out wide or in the middle.
Then again Danny Pugh played about 50 Prem games for us so 🤷🏼‍♂️

Didn't Delap play just because he could throw a ball? Had a decent PL career but never looked any good.

With hindsight we should sold him to Liverpool if there was a real offer on the table. That said we had McCabe in charge so he would have gone for less than his value.

No. Delap was hugely underrated as a footballer (partly as a consequence of the throw of course).

He was a very smart midfielder.. intelligent, decent passer and athletic and tough with it. Don't forget the throw didn't even become a thing until he was past 30.

Yeah but he only played in the PL for certain clubs. He was by all means a championship player with a hell of a throw. So always teams will take a look. Same for us with Robbo really.

He never did the throw for anyone but Stoke though. One of our coaches spotted it in training one day and it just slotted neatly into our style at the time :)

I remember Dean Windass warming up as sub for Hull and tried to distract Delap from taking the throw in!

Teams tried all sorts to stop him.. hiding his towels (he had one sewn into his shirt), bringing the hoardings in close to the pitch (he just threw it from behind them). Defenders used to deliberately put the ball out for a corner rather than concede a throw-in against us. Wenger wanted the rules changed because we battered them with it so often. It caused absolute chaos. Fun times

“this is what we’re up against”

Has he just realised?
