The two don't have to be mutually excusive. You could easily say "give me 1 more season and then I'll give you your big move". We really don't have to put out to the first carrot dangled our way. And wouldn't you want to get value for our players rather than just peanuts like we normally do.
You see I don't think we accept the first offer, and I think they've made it clear they don't want to give it one more year. Weakens your negotiating hand some what.

I'd agree in part but we put out at the first bid (had this discussion a million times now). If anyone thinks £1m is good money for Che considering the money floating around the Premiership then I'm sorry, we ought to be asking £5m+. If you sell good players it's doubly hard to replace them with something as good. Hence we are where we are.
Make no mistake I'd be really annoyed if we sold Adams for that fee.

Accepting inevitable sales doesn't mean giving them away. :)

You see I think we do accept the first offer. I don't think we ever do hang onto players just to test the resolve of the bidding clubs. I'm thinking Hull with Harry for instance. We batted back the bid then went cap in hand asking for them to reconsider. Now in negotiations that is what you call weakening your hand.

How is McFadzean negotiations going?
It's irrelevant isn't it? Roinson isn't going to backtrack, he'd rather keep a pissed off player than sell him to his promotion rivals.
I'd retract the offer -give killa a years contract and spend the extra money on a winger and target man.

Emphasis on a quick, pressing style.

I liked CW as a player and a manager. I went to last week's 'Meet the manager' and liked him and Knilll even more.

The trouble is that that the above quote is easier said than done and I'm not sure the current squad really suits what he wants to do. He needs patience but if we don't go up this season he won't get it.

I'm sure the Prince will be as trigger happy as McCabe, but very sadly an element of our fan base will beat them to it. He will be getting grief in October if we aren't in the top 2.

Come on Tintin, give us back some pride.

(Always Tintin on the bit of the Kop I stood on; what's with this 'Tufty' bollocks?)

Budgets have to be balanced and whilst Che has promise he will never be a central defender.

We can't afford to nurture kids with promise, we need to win games now.
One of the best posts I've seen on here. We nuture the talent when we are in a position to do that...6 years in this god foresaken division, we need to get out, we sell if we have to, it's not like it doesn't happen every year, let's worry about the season after next when it's here

There is optimism about, it's refreshing! Wilder has done & said the right things so far. If we play the way he wants us to, high energy, pressing, attacking football....it's the up to the fans the make BDTBL like it used to be.

If we can free up more wages by getting rid of the dross like woolford & coutts, the signs are there that we will bring in more quality.

Yes we say it every season, so please let this one be different. We aren't signing over paid has beens (or never were) we are signing players that are proven quality at this level!

And absolutely zero understanding of how modern players / agents work.

And yet other clubs manage it. Odd eh? For instance we are going to have to bid way over the odds to get Mcfadzean from the mighty MK.

I don't mind the selling because it's a fact of where we are. I mind the utter clusterfuck that is our sell em to the first bidder mentality.

Cue the excuses such as

Can't keep unhappy players
Pesky agents
Nasty other clubs bidding on our players
Couldn't stand in his way
Don't understand how modern football works

Any more excuses?

All about the size of the fee and it'll end up somewhere between £250k and £500k. We've got 5 and expect another 3 within a couple of weeks, just as you and I expected last week.;)

And of course all these new signings and wages don't come cheap. If Che and/or DCL go, it shouldn't be met with the usual gloom and despondency. Sure, Che was the second-leading scorer last season by a big margin (he got 11, the next-highest was the egregious Sammon) and those goals would need to come from somebody else. But if a serious offer came in he'd have to go.

It's football. Every team is a 'selling club' - Liverpool, Man. U among them. And Coventry. :)

Truth is Bladesway, you have no idea how long negotiations went on when players have been sold. Nor is there a case you know of where there was a second bidder.

The real pressure to sell comes from the player who multiplies his wages though.

Finally you now accept "it's a fact of where we are".Facts of life do not need to be excused, it's how things are.

Paying £300k or so for McFadzean is hardly "way over the odds", the player has a year left on his contract and his manager says he is the "best centre half in the league". The deal will likely involve a three year contract on better wages than he is on now.

Where does it say we are paying £300k? Unless you have some close connection to the club you go on the same speculation the rest of us do. Yet you castigate others for it.

I've always accepted it's a fact of life what I don't accept is the way we never say no and whoever negotiates our transfers is as much use as Mr Ed.

Good to see you at your patronising best once more as well.

I posted " £300k or more " in fact. We've offered £250k and Robinson says never less than £500k. I think "£300k or more"sits about right, don't you?

Info from MKD press and BBC website.

Hope that's not patronising, not intended anyway.

Once Harry had made it clear he wasn't willing to stay and would cause trouble within the camp not train etc, yes.

And once McCabe had said we weren't bringing any more suntan cream in as it was too expensive, yes. :)

Perhaps the owners have learned lessons too.

We might go into the season with some unity and how powerful that could be.

#Unitedtogether #TogetherUnited

I recall we went into the start of both Nigel seasons United together in the belief we had the right man (more so N#2). Those two dream starts soon had the wheels falling off!.

This time feels different. CW is of the Bassett and Warnock ilk and my mojo is running at about 40Mb, but then again at the start of each season I can't see us loosing a game all season so what do I know?
