Regarding Leonard...

I wonder if the clause for him to not play against us was put in there with the terms of the deal and we've chosen to waive it? Or did we not bother with it in the first place?

If it's the former, I get where Wilder is coming from, but I reckon half the division would've enforced it. Every little helps.

Could be us being a bit too 'nice'. Let's hope it doesn't come back to bite us in the arse as it sounds like 'Lendog' has slotted in well down there.

Ryan Leonard, let him bloody play. Wilder clearly didn't see him as enough of a threat to enforce not letting him play against us.

I find it unbelievable that we’re allowing him to play, what’s the point in making your opponents stronger? I was also sure that loan players couldn’t play against parent teams any more.

If it’s effectively a permanent deal, I think we’d be on somewhat dodgy ground trying to enforce a clause that he can’t play. I know he’s effectively ours still till January, but given if he breaks his leg in training today they’ll still be required to buy him it does seem ridiculous that he wouldn’t be able to play. If it were the reverse we’d be rightfully annoyed not to have the player available.

I’m sure if he doesn’t play though nobody would notice...

:fattwat:

It's a permanent deal in all but name, so it makes sense that the normal rule wouldn't apply as part of the agreement.
If that wasn't the case does anyone seriously think Wilder would have done them any favours and made an exception? What would be the point of doing that?

Utter fucking stupidity.

We've just thrown away a key advantage. And for what? If he's technically on loan, then surely we can prevent him playing?

Probably think Millwall have done us a favour paying £1.5m or something don't we?

Playing them without Saville or Saville's replacement would have put us in a considerably stronger position.

If anyone is guaranteed to score its bloody him. Skybet wont do a price on him for outside the box tho. If anyone sees it anywhere let me know.

We don't know how these loan to buy thingies work though, could be the normal rule doesn't apply? As said above I can't see Wilder agreeing to hand them an advantage. If he has then yes fair do's, but I think it is unlikely.

I mean if we’re really that worried about the effect Ryan Leonard might have on this one particular game of football, at a time when our midfield is looking excellent, then that in itself is worrying.

Not the point at all.

But don't underestimate how effective he could be in that Millwall team.

No, the point I mentioned earlier in the thread. For all intents and purposes, he’s not our player any more. If the shoe was on the other foot we’d be rightly having a go at the club for agreeing to permanently sign a player that we weren’t allowed to then play whenever we wanted to. This isn’t surprising, and isn’t something to beat the club over the head with.

Loan. To. Buy.

Another one Hesshite

I've just had Peter on the phone, he's just finished polishing his european cup, european super cup, league cup and two League winners medals, he's got a drop or two of brasso left and was wondering whether anyone on here needed theirs doing? If not, he said he's going to push on & try and fabreeze his 11 england caps before 1 o'clock. ;)

Never underestimate the pettiness of the footballing gods as far as we are concerned. He's now nailed on a goal & a man of the match performance.

I'm not 100% sure whether he was ever our player, but didn't Andy Kennedy do something similar to us for either Birmingham or Blackburn the same season as the Withe debacle?

The "loan" part was only to get around him signing outside the transfer window IIRC. Yes, Footballing Gods and all that but I really don't see why we're getting all het up about a bloke that could hardly get on our bench, let alone be a regular. Wilder did chase him but given the choice of Leonard or Norwood, then it's really not even close.

It was in the previous season we had him on loan from Birmingham and his goal for us was against Blackburn who he joined a year later

Kennedy was on loan to us from Birmingham in 1986-7.

He was back there in 1987-8 and scored the winner against us in a 1-0 defeat in April, a result which pushed us towards relegation.

He also scored against us for Blackburn when they won 2-1 at the Lane in our promotion season 2 years later.

Leonard will have the game of his life. He'll be proper up for it. He instantly improves them - regardless of how poor he was for us.

That's as may be ,but I meant Leonard

If he does perform consistantly well between now and January would he be worth putting a cheeky bid in for at a knock down price, once we've sold him to them ?
