I have to say, and this is something I have picked up recently, Wilder consistently finds it difficult to heap praise on the skipper when prompted.

Often rather glib and dismissive of his efforts, focussing on things he should be doing better, and quickly changing tact to discuss other players and how they played.

It’s really interesting stuff ( to me anyway !!).

His often lack of praise for Sharp is probably because Billy doesn’t need that to play well.

In any profession you get people who thrive more under praise and I suspect that is Wilder’s rationale when doling it out.

Exactly. He’s given him plenty of praise already this season – “The Perfect Captain” after Norwich wasn’t it, and then the good-natured push to the crowd at QPR (which a few were weirdly trying to read something not right from).

In the media he doesn’t heap praise on him, I’m guessing because he’s the golden boy and he either doesn’t want to show too much favouritism or give Billy a big head. I think he often plays it well by playing it down

However, see him after games on the pitch he loves him

billy is one of us .. he doesn't actually need praise, he would run through brick walks for the shirt

Does he say "the supporters are enjoying it but hardly make any noise. If only we were like Palace, with flags and pop songs. It's really taken the shine off tonight for me" ?

Nope …… but I think he did say that Blades fans are the worst in the land ….. hated by everyone, and diabolical for their kidney punching disabled ageing lesbians and tipping small children out of wheelchairs ;):D

Personally I don’t think this is a Sharp thing. Does it with many players including Brooks last season. I may be wrong but he seems to only heap praise on individuals when they need it, otherwise it’s a team game

To be fair to myself on your last bit, they jumped in front of me in a queue and I was a couple of pints in. Clipped one kid in a wheelchair for not singing. Was going to leave it but Ricky had his bats out and thought what I did was the lesser of two evils
