Hopefully he comes back refreshed and with a new perspective.

It’s a worry when you hear your manager comment and it doesn’t feel like he’s watched the same game.

There was a throwaway comment in there that we could have won last week? Really? At best, a losing draw where we defended with discipline but created largely nothing.

We then bemoan losing to two worldies. What was ours? Phillips bangs a free kick on from 30+ yards. What’s that? A well worked team goal?

We are playing fear football. Before each game we hear for one reason or another what a powerful club the opposition is. By the end of December we’ll have justified how all the teams we’ve played should finish above us!

On the same theme, there’s just far too much emphasis on stopping the opposition and what we do without the ball. That’s not how a progressive team talks. We seemingly have little idea with the ball.

We’ve also seemed to sign players on reputation rather than actual current data or recent feedback. In doing so we’ve also signed far too many defensive players or as per above those that lack flair.

We have Donovan, for Brooks. Even when we hadn’t sold Hamer, we still needed left sided player.

We set off playing 2 in central midfield for 4-2-3-1 or 4-4-2 yet we have as many as 7 central midfield options (Phillips, Peck, Arblaster, Rothwell, Riedewald, Choudhury, Shackleton).

So I agree he’s had to deal with players being sold. Brooks went early and Donovan came in so, based on what we’ve seen he has a similar option. Hamer and O’Hare left. Only BBD really came in.

But if he had chosen 5 midfield options then he could have probably saved 2m in the kitty. Let’s add Doherty who looks well short and square it to 3m. 3m and we need cover for right back. We didn’t use all the loans. We could have got one plus change.

There’s some credit alluded to by decreasing the wage bill (Hamer and O’Hare no doubt big hits) but we’ve let go fringe players on a pittance. We’ve bloated the squad to 26 of which 25 are not classed as young players. To the extent when January comes and we’re looking to boost the squad, we can’t. Not without first offloading. Perhaps we’ll be bemoaning that as if it wasn’t by our own doing.

There are so many things wrong with the make up of the squad and so much more money that could be saved with so little impact to performance.

And don’t get me started on those out of contract this summer and next. We need to get a move on there given the club doesn’t want players in their final year.

Attendences tend to follow results.

Connected but not the determining factor .
Which is why I said they play a part. Results tend to follow performances over time. Our performances are consistently below par. We’ll see as the season develops how that affects attendances even if we are grinding out the occasional result.

There's been many a time throughout my career when I've bemoaned why the hell am I Blade. ( I blame me Dad).
This is one such time, yes because we're actually not very good at the moment and Wilder has some questions to answer, but it's the sheer vitriol of some of the comments - mainly in the Wilder Out camp which just sicken me and as for the cretinous comments re Arblaster and Wider's daughter, well I'd just love to see you say it to his face. He's said judge me at Christmas - that's fair enough for me.
He's had his 3 best players sold from under his feet - the last one giving us no chance to replace him.
We have no money.
We have to exist on frees.
They're free for a reason.
Re Stoke we had no proper full backs.
Oh and some on here query why the away support lauder Wilder more than most on this thread - maybe because we know a little more about football than you lot.

I’m a bit stuck with what I actually think should happen next.

Wilder has a legacy at United and he’s a Blade through and through, but if that 2018–19 Wilder side built on a shoestring played this current team, who I’d guess costs more each month in wages, they’d get absolutely battered. The standards aren’t remotely comparable.

It feels like he’s lost his mojo. Someone on here said it a while back and it stuck with me: he never used to be scared of losing games. He’s always been stubborn tactically, but the mentality used to be completely different - fearless, front-foot, unapologetic.

Right now, I don’t enjoy watching United at all. When a home game comes around, I go because I’ve got a season ticket, but I don’t look forward to it like I used to. The spark has gone.

The whole club needs fresh energy, top to bottom. The fans are completely disconnected from the players, no matter what Wilder says. Yesterday we had ironic cheers for a shot, and when we went 1–0 up you had the ‘how shit must you be, we’re winning away’ chant. They were booed off on Tuesday against Fleetwood. The away following at Blackburn was dreadful. It’s just not a good time to be a Blade & something has to give soon.

what i dont understand is wilder thinking we played well yesterday and deserved something out of the game dont know what match hes watching but we deserved nothing out of that game we couldnt string 3 passes together the whole 90 minutes and constantly passed the ball to stoke players im pretty sure if we lose to lincoln hes gone

Some definitely just love that Wilder represents them as people and results are secondary. People might say that's ridiculous but look at posts like this
I’ve said it before, Wilder looks, acts and sounds like a section of our fanbase, so he allows them to live out their fantasies vicariously through him. Any criticism of him is an indictment of them and that threatens the illusion. The turgid football doesn’t matter, the lack of anything resembling tactical sense doesn’t matter, the lack of self-reflection and ability to admit fault DOES NOT MATTER. The only thing that does matter is maintaining the fantasy, it must be protected at all costs, if even it careers us back into L1.

Do you ever see this many excuses given to justify keeping a manager at any other club?

Wilder isn’t exactly helping himself when it comes to Arblaster. He’s playing him out of position and leaving our most exciting attacking player on the bench, who’s natural position is where Arblaster is currently playing out of position.

It’s no surprise that he’s been called out for nepotism. He shouldn’t be getting personal abuse though, that’s wrong.

I think that section is relatively small tbh.

There are those with the pitchforks out , those who have an affinity and defend at all costs , and those who concede it'll play itself to a conclusion one way or another.

Im not sure this place is very representative of the entire support , just the most vocal.

When I chat to other ST holders who aren't on forums, they're more sanguine about the subject , " it'll have to improve or he'll be out of a job " attitude . But thats always the case .

It is a small section who see Wilder as extension of themselves but they're the loudest. The majority who want him to stay simply think he's the best option in our current state. I don't agree but I can see the reasoning. The loudest on both sides are the minority and they're both irrelevant. I think right now, most are on the fence and wouldn't throw a fuss either way if he left or stayed.

When Christmas comes round it will be judge me after the transfer window, then end of the season it will be back to judge me after a proper pre season. Same old excuses from him.

An example of what's happening beyond this forum...

I genuinely saw a post on Twitter last night that stated they would support, and want, CW as manager even if he took us down to The Conference.

There's literally no point trying to reason with the cult as it's pointless.

Foxy's post above is spot on. The thing I still don't get is posters slagging Wilder for the way he 'set us up' and stuff. Geez don't send me anyone to fix my radiators who hasn't done a plumbing apprenticeship. Soz, I know everyone is entitled to an opinion, but if you make your living as an accountant how can you possibly give a fully qualified opinion of football management? Oh, and if you try to tell me the world is flat, then you're not entitled to an opinion.

Honesty, if the football improved I’d be minded to come back to neutral. I’m absolutely sick of watching us play, we can’t pass or even try to, we have no style or swagger or even attacking intent. We’re also the first hoof ball team I can remember that’s no good at it and does it with slow, small players.

I dont imagine theres much argument there . Its not very good , think thats something all agree with .
It is indeed not a great watch .

No offence, but your argument doesn’t really hold up to any degree of scrutiny whatsoever. Have you watched 1000s of radiators being fixed in your life? Do you watch other people’s radiators being fixed for hundreds of ours just for fun? Do you debate flow rates and pipe material in online forums? Are you in a position whereby every week you watch 90 plumbers fix radiators without caving in your ceiling and using the right tools in half the time? Of course no serious person is saying they can become a football manager, but what we can say pretty much every week, is we have another manager and team to compare to and we come up short most weeks. And most of have watched enough football to know what is shite and what isn’t.

Thats just noise.

Another to add to the cult.

I had one of his mates arguing with me on Twitter last night that's literally no other manager out there that would do better than him.

Even though there's 1000's of other coaches out there but no he's the only one that can manage us.

He even intimated that Morinho wouldn't do as well as he doesn't know The Championship.

sorry dont agree with the point your making ive watched football and united for 65 years seen some brilliant football and garbage football at the lane wilders tactics are boring and dull fans have paid good money for season tickets and wont stand for this type of football for much longer and this is from somebody who WAS a massive chris wilder fan in his first 2 spells at the lane not this time im sorry to say its slow sideways backwards then hoof and thats it no plan b or c he can go for me utb ftp ⚔️⚔️⚔️

The absolute best thing he could do for United now is resign.

Yeah there’s a risk the board might make the wrong appointment again, but there’s a chance we might improve too.

Guaranteed stagnation with Chris Wilder at the helm.
This is 100% true. But it is also 100% true that Wilder will never, ever get as high a profile (or highly paid) gig as he has right now, so it isn't going to happen.

Attendances will also play a part.
While we have had some number of fans (myself included) not renew STs, we still have an awful lot of them, and the money has been banked. Pay on the gate numbers might drop sharper, but they're not that big a deal on the balance sheet either. Of course, if we get to December and the Kop is half empty then it doesn't project great (and of course Wilder apologists will say it's cold/it's an early kickoff/it's the run up to Christmas money is tight etc etc) but let's not kid ourselves that this would really affect anything

This is like saying if you’re not a movie director then you’re opinion on whether a film is good or bad doesn’t count.

By your own rules your opinion on this forum doesn’t have any relevance or value…

I’ve just read some comments on my wife’s facebook, someone called Kazs tours, wowser,I thought Wednesday has a deluded cult of idiocy levels. Don’t you dare criticise our Chrisseh.
