Spot on.

Some people seem to think were limited to Wilder’s black book of contacts to find a new manager from, the ‘go on then, give us some other names’ conversation usually bounces between Steve Cooper and Sean Dyche as if nobody else could ever be considered.

it was an oft touted idea that Wilder was ‘decent when we’re brassic but don’t give him money to spend’ - turns out that the limited funds we’ve had this season have been wasted on wages of underperforming, unfit mediocrity

He’s not even chased players based on a heroic performance from them previously.

BBD was ok, but played out of position.

Phillips did nothing and was injured for the majority of his time here.

Choudhury, again was bang average.

And then he’s chased Souttar for literally silly money.

McG he’s said is crap but keep on anyway.

Jairo he binned off and went crawling back.

Campbell has been off it fitness wise since last season and gets a new contract.

It’s bizarre.

He has no plan B and that's it. When it works it's okay, but now he is being caught out and can't change the system.

It's like it's his way or the highway and will not change what he does even when everyone can see it not working.

Our plan A is 10 passes between back four, and then full back lumps into channels. That's our tactic.

Am I the only one who finds this approach of some to say, 'name a better alternative than Wilder' a bit odd?

To turn it on it's head, maybe those could explain why there is nobody better currently across the entire football world.

There are an absolute plethora of managers and coaches out there that none of us have even heard of, let alone know how good they are or could be.

I completely understand we could do worse and the lack of trust in the owners to appoint someone better. However, this attitude that's there's literally no'one better currently is nonsense.

Both of them can be true.

I’d like to see people name potential names who might be available and be able to turn things around, rather than shouting for the managers head and being unable to name potential replacements who would be better than Wilder for our current situation. Who knows I might see a name and think he might be good for us and be able to get on board with it.

There will be someone better within the football world to take us forward and reshape us a club, Brighton, Bournemouth and Brentford all seem to be able to manage it when their managers leave in an upwards move, as it’s clear they have a bit of succession planning. Do you have confidence in the current powers that be at Bramall Lane to be able to do that.

The last two times we sacked Wilder, we ended up with Jokanovic who was dreadful and we owed a lot to Hecky who righted that particular fuck up, and then the second we dropped on Selles who knocked us back 5-10 years in the space of 3 months

There are more questions than answers at present.

Why are the owners refusing to pay the last instalment to the Prince?
Why did Alan Knill get the push? Who made the decision, and why?
Did the budget get changed during pre-season and upset plans put in place?
Does anyone challenge Wilder on recruitment?
What's the realistic aim this season from those running the club?

Obviously we're not going to get answers to all of those for different reasons but there's a lot of uncertainty around, which coupled with the worrying performances and squad imbalance, is only feeding the negativity.

If poor performances continue, and more importantly results follow the same route, what then?

I'm all for a complete change and look on in envy at other clubs at this level who find foreign managers and players that look more advanced than our old skool approach. But it's going to be difficult for anyone to come in and get a lot more from this group despite the seeming lack of structure and identity.

Based on how resistant many of our fans are to certain changes, especially when it's at the expense of Wilder, there will be zero patience for anyone this season anyway as the only way to negate that would be a huge upturn in performances and results which is probably unrealistic with our current squad.

I admit to having Wilder fatigue but maybe it's best to let him see the season out barring a ridiculously poor run of results, and lay the groundwork for next season.

Similarly I watched til half time and then went to do a few odd jobs in the garden.
I find it increasingly difficult to relate to current day football.
Teams are bought and not built over a period of time.
In the 60s and 70s odd players were bought to improve a team and the nucleus of he teams were homegrown or home developed.
It's difficult to keep track of who plays for whom. A lot of the managers are impossible to understand. Many names unpronounceable and I don't even bother trying to remember names.
As has been said by others, I keep going partly through habit and partly for the social aspects - get to know people who sit around you in the stand at home games, bump into people you've got to know at away games, even though you don't even know their names.
I just live in hopes that things become a little more positive eventually
Great post, football on TV, radio and Podcasts is absolutely saturated, they have now complicated a simple game...

You’re far from the only one. It’s very odd. Lazy and disingenuous.

I do wonder about this "United are being run differently from any other club". Selles had quite a few previous posts and gave no indication of anything unusual about the club's structure, and you'd think something would have come out. Is it actually true, or a myth put forward by some?

the biggest shirk in the forum at the moment... 'name another manager'.

As though there's absolutely nobody else in the world that can do a job.

How about, advertise, interview, employ.... you know, like most gaffers have to.

If we are languishing near the bottom bby e.nd of October we seriously need to be thinking of a change, we can't have wilder saying "get till January and I'll bring people in" he's got to go, replacements available atm (without Pep etc) include Hessenhuttl, Parker, Cooper, Dyche, personality Id sound out McKenna or try and lure Mousinho
Questions
1 can we afford to pay CW off
2 can we give a new guy money to spend

It's the interview bit I don't have any confidence in. We could easily end up with worse than we have now. I agree with you in principle and in an ideal world, but that's not where we are at.

There's loads of managers who could manage us better than Wilder.

The problem however is that getting rid of Wilder carries a massive risk.

Because there's loads of managers who could manage us worse than Wilder.

Long term, we all know he needs to go but for now we're being held hostage by him because of the predicament we're in.

It's all well and good pulling the trigger on Wilder but you better be damn sure the guy you're bringing in can do the business.

If it goes tits up we're back in League One.

Also, we have a fanbase who'll be chanting wilders name after 2 defeats under any new manager.

League 1 without Wilder gives me more hope than Championship with him.

We could, but I genuinely don't think this is the best we can muster. It's prehistoric football and a recruitment process from the same era.

Q1 - as things stand we can’t afford not to. A dramatic change not withstanding.

Q2 - you’d hope a new guy will know exactly where he stands on budgets and the board stick to it. Regardless, there would be some decent people applying if the job becomes available.

More fun than the dross currently being served up.

At least we might have some fun on the way back up (eventually).

Wilder is pants but he hasn't quite declined to the point where he's gone full Adkins yet.

The football is crap, the squad has been dismantled and the remaining players don't look fit, good enough or interested.

But I still think we'll get enough points to keep us away from the bottom three this season.

Good post mate. The fitness & conditioning issue is Wilders blindspot and undermines everything else we try to do, IMO.

He's just not up to it and there must be managers out there who are all over that aspect.

I'm as frustrated as you pal but Wilder's ego is writing cheques his managerial ability can't cash.

I'm tired of listening to him and watching his teams limp through games now and it looks like his players are too.

His self indulgent presser after the S6 derby win has come back to bite him squarely in the a*se, as it always had the potential to.
Just another embarrassing moment where Chris the supporter dominated Chris the manager.
It's not only the fitness & conditioning at the Lane itself ,
But also ,
The consistent recruitment of players who are incapable of getting fit or conditioned.
Basically Wilder mainly bring in whatever is the opposite of athletes.
I'd rather see some better athletes from L1 & L2 or from abroad,
Than see Wilder's crocked old men who used to be good footballers.
