Key quotes:-

“He has got a bit of the wow factor,” Wilder said.

“He gets supporters excited, gets at players and drives the game forward. He’s a talented footballer, that does things a little differently to a lot of other players.

“He has that ability, and we are certainly not going to coach that out of him.

“There are certain parts of his game he still needs to improve but, there’s no point in denying it, he’s a special player”

Wilder, who attributes Mark Duffy’s spike in form to Brooks’ emergence, said: “I think he has raised Duffy’s game too, to get at the opposition and take people out of the game.

“When you do that, numerically, you have a man advantage.

“Players change physically pretty quickly. The confidence of being away with England in the summer, has given him a boost.

“He wants to stay here, he made that perfectly clear to his agent, and the agent had to do a deal with the club.”

If this is true (and there's no reason to doubt that) then Brooks has gone way up in my estimation - even though he was rather highly regarded in the first place.

The kids obviously got his head screwed on, wants to develop with us & isn't above his station.

Credit to you young 'un!

The way he changed the game on Friday night for Wales against probably the strongest European team at Home - was both exciting and terrifying!!

He's the kind of talent who could get us promoted and thereafter when we do sell him, his fee could set the club up for years!

Maybe being at and released at a top club like City has given him a more grounded and realistic attitude, and made him realise he's far better at a club where he will get a chance to play like at United...He comes across as a level headed, grounded lad anyway.

If we sold him when we had been promoted his fee would be well under one season's tv money.

Hardly setting us up for years.

true but take care of the pennies (and all that) reminds me I wonder what United are going to spend their latest windfall (Maguire international appearance money) on 80 grand, wonder if it's enough to complete the signing of Leonard?
:D

One season s TV money perhaps, but we would be getting two seasons worth in one go using your example.

Say we got £20m for him, in addition to the monies we get at the end of that season. That would allow us to undergo preparations in excess of what we could have done, thus setting the club up if done properly.
Get us up, keep us up and become the players he’s expected to be, and that £20m could well be £40m.

Sunderland finished bottom last season and their total tv money payout was £99.9m., or about 5 times the amount that you suggest we may get for Brooks.

Selling Brooks will not set the club up for anything but may seriously damage our prospects of getting year 2 tv money.

If we don't get promoted then I could make a different argument.

I think the fact that he has already been dumped by Man City suggests that he won't jump ship at the first offer of Premier League football. He has stated previously that United gave him "another chance".

^That and more. United have set him up for life. Even if his agent is chomping at the bit I'm pretty sure he's got his own mind and together with his parents he realises that. The pressure with regards to him leaving won't come from Brooks, it will come from the board.

I can’t see him moving anytime soon he’s quite close with a lot of the younger lads coming through, that said it won’t be his decision in the end it will all come down to money if we accept a fee then what he wants don’t come into it he’ll be gone then his agent will offer him to a bigger or better club who is prepared to match the fee accepted and the choice will then be with Brooksey

An added bonus to Brooks staying is the extra satisfaction of knowing that somewhere out there is an agent being physically sick .

That's an absolutely fantastic reflection on our club and our players.
For the first time since Bassett (and actually more so now) it feels like the whole squad has a genuine affinity with the club and the supporters too.
I'm sure a big part of that is having a manager and skipper who are both Blades and to a lesser degree though taking nothing away from him, chairman.
Most of our squad are no doubt being looked at by wealthier and better placed clubs who could instantly make them very rich men.....it tells me a lot that they're preferring to extend their contracts here.
I'd like to think that they've all been offered a kings ransom out of the tv money should we get promoted to make up for any perceived shortfall, and as a reward for their loyalty and efforts on the pitch.
I'm sounding like I'm getting carried awy but it's hard not to with what we're seeing on and off the pitch.
I truly believe that this squad are not only players for Utd but are becomming fans too.
.....yeah,deffo carried away but happy to be so.
