If the likes of Sam vokes and Ashley Barnes can be decent premier league operators I’ve no doubt madine could do a job as a physical presence/ threat in the air.

No point in rushing things,... let things play out for a while and see where we stand. If we can get him for a reasonable fee I wouldn’t be against it, he played decently well for us if not ‘lights out’ ‘must sign’.

Let’s see how we get on.

Cardiff paid 6m because they had the PL money. Now we have some. They are not likely to want to give him away. They'll half fancy him to do a job to get them back up too.

As such they'll probably want a full refund and to me, that would be too much.

For me, Madine turned out to be exactly what Warnock suggested he’d be in January.

“Gary is something different to what Sheffield United have already got,” the 70-year-old Cardiff manager last night told The Yorkshire Post.

“He is ideal for the Championship. For me, we would not have been promoted without him last season.

“He won us six or seven points just by how he played up front. One game at Millwall stands out as he took a real battering, but kept going and helped us get a big point. We definitely would not have got that draw without him.

“There were a few games like that and, in the end, they all added up. Those six or seven points proved the difference in us winning automatic promotion or having to settle for the play-offs.”

If we don’t sign him I imagine Wilder would probably look back at his time with us in similar terms.

Surely at those figures, even with our SKY money next season, they are bonkers figures for a plan B player.

I think for year 1 Prem players they are - I personally don't mind paying that sort of cash but i'd like to think £35K would get us plan A striker next season and then think again of moving the club forwards with higher wages as we get established.

I sure I remember reading about a week after the JTW closed Wilder say there was no option to buy in any of the January loan deals.

The average weekly wage in the Premier League is about 50 grand. Obviously that's driven higher by the big earners at the top clubs, but I can't see many agents letting their clients join us and not asking for the sort of money we're discussing.

You don't know that. Without it, it could have been better, it could have been worse. All we know for certain is that it turned out well for us the way it was done.

He did seem downbeat didn’t he. Then again the decision for him to stay won’t be ours. It’ll be Cardiff’s. I’d keep him, think a player of his style will do well in the prem when we need that physicality.

Totally agree. In the PL we'll need 25 players who can step up when required.

Those saying we'll can Coutts, Madine, Lundstram etc must be assuming Tufty is bringing in 10+ players of a better standard!!

if i was Cardiff i wouldn't let him go when he has showed his effectiveness at the Championship level. They will want a decent fee and THAT is where we might not sign him, since we can spend a decent fee more wisely

Doesn't matter how we play, I expect we can do better than Madine now we have a few quid. Madine, Washington and Hogan were what we could afford last season, we're in a different league now, with a 'decent budget' to try and establish us there.
