Yes, this sounds far-fetched and I might be still riding on the euphoria of romping the league but I can't help feeling that our current management dynamic duo bear some resemblance to Clough and Taylor.

Alan Knill - in the background, shuns the limelight and seems uncomfortable with it. Good eye for a player and quietly gets on with the tactics (Taylor)

Chris Wilder - Charismatic, a little bit bonkers, likes a drink, unconventional, strength of conviction, not afraid to bomb people out for the good of the team, seems to get the best out of his players and his players would run through brick walls for him (Clough)

How good would it be if this was right and we're on the brink of something big for the club? We could be racking up the Air Miles in 2 years time :D

Thing is Bill, the comparison's been made elsewhere......as much as I understand why you might like to compare Clough and Taylor to Wilder and Knill it's simply not worth considering, at least not for a few years when we can reflect and see what CW and AK have achieved. Brian Clough was a one off, let's hope Wilder has a range of skills and qualities to make the same type of impression, but for now, well we should enjoy what we have.....who knows what the future holds?

So you only consider something might happen after its happened?
Hope I'm never driving near you ;)

No Bill...you did begin your post with the possibility of being far-fetched, well therein may be the answer to your post.

Like all Blades I think Wilder's done a fantastic job, but please don't start comparing him to a manager who is incomparable.

I think Wilder has great potential, where it'll take him remains to be seen.....or is that not allowed when it comes to a sober discussion about the why's and wherefore's of someone's talent.

Nothing in common other than they both managed the blades.
Wilder is a God - Clough isn't
Wilder got us out of L1- Clough didn't
Wilder built a team from fuck all- Clough didn't
Wilder steered us to a trophy - Clough didn't.........
I could go on and on, but I won't.

Please do, you may hit on the right Clough eventually ;)

To be fair, Wilder did have probably the biggest budget in League One.
Apart from Bolton and Charlton you mean? Oh, and spent less than both if figures are to be believed.

There's liking a drink and then there's what Brian Clough became due to his relationship with drink.

Not a good comparison and one I would imagine Chris Wilder would be uncomfortable with.

OK, 3rd biggest budget then, it's hardly "fuck all".

If he gets us up next season, then that would be doing it on a shoe string.

I'd be happy with top 15 to be fair.

Agree.

Watching Cloughies story on TV Thursday night couldn't help feel we have the next Clough [Brian not Nigel].

Both these two need locking in to contracts asap. We can't afford to be lairy just because CW is a Blade. I was told Madkins was on £850,000 when he was manager . Took CW one season to right the last 5 seasons worth of shyte. Stop fannying about McCabe!

Maybe CW should have a chat with Portsmouth?
