Wilder interview

My solutions are on 4 threads dating back to 16th April. I already knew it then.

Solution? No .

Suggestion (again)

Thousands of Blades fans write to the owners to back the manager and 'demand' a budget for him to work with now.

I even composed a letter.

I did read the "suggestion(s) you'd proposed, what difference do you think this "demand" woud have?

Personally I think it will have non whatsoever, before you ask no I don't have a solution / suggestion but thats because I feel there isn't one whilst the owners are in dispute.

Not just the owners prevaricating it seems., Foxy has been called upon to "do" something, whatever that is. Appears he's done nothing. Tsk.

Shocking state of affairs if you ask me......

Key to all of this is to retain the services of CW and his team, if the owners fail to grasp this then they've failed everyone.

How this is resolved is down to two people. Whether they care, or are willing to make this happen, is down to their capabilities. But more complex issues than this one have been addressed and resolved satisfactory, so rather than pig-headed stubbornness, it's time they confronted the central issues and stopped the apparent dithering. Life is full of lost opportunities, and the fact that Wilder, McCabe, and two of the Prince's representatives were in the same room last weekend was surely a chance to meet beforehand and attempt to make headway.

It's the responsibility of KM and the Prince to resolve this now, not tomorrow.

I agree regards retaining CW and his team, I do have a nagging feeling that this may only be accomplished if McCabe "wins". The spectre of Van Winkle concerns me.

I'm pretty sure McCabe cares, this may be a contributory reason for the dispute who knows. HRH I couldn't say one way or the other if he cares about us or not. I think they are confronting the issues it's just being done through litigation, you I and other people may or may not like it but sometimes it's the only way.

It may be difficult to make headway at the moment as I'm assuming the contracts are still being examined by the legal team(s). Without effectively knowing where you stand it woud be difficult to make headway to a resolution. My view is until the legal teams have done their thing both owners and their respective representatives will be under instruction to not say anything.

Certainly Blades life is full of lost opportunities :)

Another great interview IMO.

The only bit thst confused me was that he obviously was in McCabe’s company last Tuesday, but gave the impression thst he’d not seen hide nor hair of him or HRH.

I’m not easy with the way he’s going about this really, but I suppose if he feels he’s done all he can in private then he has no other option than go to the media about it.

If he goes to Sunderland then it’s a hypocritical move. They are a bat shit crazy club who despite being taken over recently, have no assurances of having their problems resolved. He still has players there on contracts greater than 50k a week, Roswell is on 70k I think and still contracted. They are a complete mess, going there would be career suicide for him.

I'm surprised that McCabe didn't say something to him at the awards function the other night.

They were in the same room and even if it was just a discussion to meet up on a particular date to discuss things further.

Very strange.

It was probably a bit like one of those "functions" where two arguing sides of the same family are in the same room (been there, bought the t-shirt, broke up the fight). A cursory hello then death stares across the room for the rest of the night

apart from Wilder stating in his previous interview that he hadn't fallen out with either of them

"Send them an email, drop them a line
Stating point of view
Indicate precisely what he means to say
Yours sincerely, wasting away

Ask for an answer, fill in a form
Yours for evermore
Will you still need him, will you still feed him
When he's fifty-four"

64, but brilliant !!

It was more an attempt (albeit a poor one) at wit. I wasn't there so I have no idea whether they spoke or not to be honest. I seem to recall reading somewhere (on here?) that they hardly spoke all night. As I say, i wouldn't know whether that is true or not.

How long has this been going on?
How long has this been going on?

Well, your friends with their fancy persuasion
Don't admit that it's part of a scheme
But I can't help but have my suspicion
'Cause I ain't quite as dumb as I seem

And you said you was never intending
To break up our scene in this way
But there ain't any use in pretending
It could happen to us any day

Wilder is throwing his toys out of the pram like a petulant child. He didn't mention he was unhappy with the budget he was given in the last two transfer windows. He brought in over a dozen players, two of which he publically chased and then doesn't play them. This from someone who said that he wouldn't 'spunk' money. In addition many existing players , and I believe the management team if I recall correctly, received large pay rises

The team's form in 2018 has been patchy at best and at times awful and he has to take some of the blame for this but he doesn't want top ( everyone's fault except his own) Did other teams suss us out ? Probably and CW was unable to deal with this. Yes a learning curve for him which he has to learn from as his reputation will have been diminished especially compared to the job Neil Harris has done at Millwall and Alex Neil at PNE. Does he think he is out of his depth which has now caused this reaction?

If any other non-Blade manager had acted like this there would have been uproar from the fans ( remember the reaction when Steve Bruce walked out ?) If his ambition is to manage a third tier club again where his playing budget will be limited in view of the extortionate wages they are paying to players I will be surprised. However what I expect from any manager of my club to show respect for the fans and club by taking up his concerns to the joint owners instead of touting for a job in the media.

Where I do agree with CW is that he should be aware what the budget is now for next season. However he should ask the joint owners on this and not spout off to the media

He knows next season will be difficult and it will probably be a relegation struggle. Is this an indication that he doesn't think he can do the job ? For me he gets on with the job and stops 'playing' the media. If he walks so be it . The club is more important than 1 person

Spot on! No winners in any of this and if CW stays, then he’s created a bit of unrest with some supporters. What a s**t end to the season.

..they're all coming out now... :D

What happened to the standard response of “in Wilder we trust?”. Fickle as fuck.

I've never said that ( or the 'In Clough we trust' which some fans said) but even the fans who have said that can question CW's way of handling this

He's using his considerable leverage with the supporters to try and force the issue. Can't really blame him.

Unfortunately you have 2 very rich men trying to decide how they want to either work together, split the assets or buy someone out. As much as Wilder is an obvious asset and they probably don't want to lose him it might be that his feelings don't figure into their timetable? And you don't get rich by bowing to popular opinion so they definitely won't care what we think yet

Without knowing what is going on in the background, it's difficult to judge. Unless this has dragged on despite Wilder's best efforts, then I'm not sure he's right in dredging this out in public. It's not like it's July I wouldn't be suprised if both owners are genuinely pissed off with him.

That's a very well constructed argument , with which I have a great deal of empathy.

At the very least, the place to deal with these issues is not via the media and, in truth, I'm getting a bit fed up with all this " you know me Rob, I tell it like it is" bollocks. It certainly lacks class and serves no useful purpose.

Is it me, or is he becoming more Warnockesque with every interview he gives ?

I think/hope it’s just you..interesting how this realisation dawned on you as Wilder began to speak his mind about the board issue’s and how he’s been left in the dark by the owners.

He was always lauded on here for speaking his mind previously and telling it ‘like a fan’.

UTB!

I'm still counting out Ruby's change pot, but I'm struggling to be able to afford both the club and an assault on promotion. #tinpot.

In seriousness, I'm not sure what I'm in a position to do personally, unless I'm being asked to provide the stamps?

In terms of the overall situation, I don't think it's as simple as some seem to think in "not talking", it's more that the budget he's been spoken to about depends on the outcome of the ownership wrangle. In my opinion, he'll know full well what his budget will be under at least one of the three options... he just doesn't know it's going to be that option.

I'd say he's simply trying to accelerate the decision and improve his position (where he is) via an opportunity presented to him personally - his stock is high, there's at least a couple of places he'd be offered a role formally if they knew he'd go.

I reckon he could easily go elsewhere within a week and make himself some more money giving himself a larger budget to work with, he could just as easily stay... at the end of the day it's his decision and I think one likely to be made sooner rather than later based on whatever personal assurances he gets in the immediate future - otherwise, why put the pressure on publicly?
