Wilder interview. Spending shekels.

There are plenty of gems plying their trade in the lower leagues. Adams, Vardy, to name but 2 recent ones, I saw Vardy in the conference, at Eastbourne Borough and thought, whilst fast, offered little else. His shooting then, would have had him not looking out of place at Twickenham. Look what the right manager/coach got from him. Wilder and Knill, Knill specifically, seem to be able to spot such gems, eg Jake Wright. I think the management team is more than capable of building a team on a strict budget, without jeopardising the long term future of the Club. Brighton have built slowly and safely, budget wise. Look at them now.
I did have one disturbing thought the other day. The board sell lots of Season tickets as early as possible, then sell Fleck and possibly one other (Moore?). I hope I am wrong on this one, I usually am.

Brighton posted a £26 million loss last year £14 million the year before so that sounds as if they are chasing the dream to eat at the Premiership table. They are not the only ones in the Championship some of the players wages totals are off the scale. If CW can keep finding bargains fair play to him but finding bargains that can flourish in the Championship may be that bit harder, but we live in hope.
 
The quandary I'm faced with is who will we have to jettison if we sign a few big money players to be competitive? Obviously that will mean someone moving aside to make way for them. So, new striker - Sharp? New midfielder - Duffy? New CB - Wright? Not saying any of these but go on, be brave, who do you think will have to be dropped or moved on if we are to succeed in the Championship?

I'll kick this off by suggesting we will need two new full backs for starters.
 
I'd like to see us dip back into League One and buy a few of the better players from there, especially from teams that don't go up. If Bolton slip up I'd go for Morais. I'd also be looking at the likes of Ward at Rotherham. Not convinced with Josh Morris - might be a one season wonder and not necessarily better than Fleck or Carruthers anyway.

You are correct Derry. As I said, rarely right. The above is interesting. Norwich made a profit by selling players.
 
The amounts of money some clubs are spending to reach the top table is unbelievable, and I don't see it slowing down.

40k, 40k, 60k, 35k, and 28k per week in the order you wrote them. 203k per week just on their strikeforce and i can't see Bannan, Wallace or Lees being on a pittance either.

They're underachieving hugely this season :o)
 
Happy with his comments. I don't care how much we're spending provided it brings the right players at a cost that the club can afford.

Baby steps. We'll get there with a bit of patience.

Players on their way up who want to succeed in the game, not wind down from it

But I'd also like us to pitch in with a big signing up front,
 
Getting 2 or 3 quality loans in will make a huge difference. Premiership clubs send them out for development and where better for them to go?. They will have to reach peak fitness and be able to adapt to different systems of play.
Wilders reputation is growing and I'm sure he can attract some quality youngsters from the top teams.

I agree with you Derry but I think it can be done without going crazy and the first time a manager proves that (Wilder next season) it's going to make a lot of Chairmen question their decisions. Hopefully then they'll see that the most important signing is a bloody good manager and we're lucky we've got one and he's staying with us.

I still reckon that we'll spend 4/5 Million similar to bristol city/ wigan did last year but even that isnt much compared to some others , wolves spent £12M on that costa o_Oo_Oo_Oo_Oo_Oo_O

Of course it can be done and the play-offs is where a team on a smaller budget can get promoted, but look at the top 2 over the past few years, they've all spent big.

It's how football is and will be for the foreseeable future, other than the odd Leicester blip, the teams with the biggest budget will be at the top.

Wilder is a very good manager, but he's not produced miracles, well not yet anyway...........
