So in a nutshell think Liverpool was indeed what we all fully believed to be spin. Get ready for we tried for one or two, but...... And that dreaded fax machine

I actually take that as a balanced, reasoned view from the manager and I fully trust the manager. Believe me, I was opening the article and preparing to have a rant at McCabe, but as it's come from Wilder, I trust him.

The undertone is that penny pinching McCabe has cottoned on to the idea that 'if we can go up on a budget, we can stay up on a budget'.

Wait a minute! Wilder says it's going to be tough next season!!! I thought that was just pig fans winding us up?!?

Think you're reading what you want to read there, fella. Unless it's sarcasm?

All I'm reading is we'll recruit, but we won't be shafted by anyone. An approach I applaud. I hate being shafted.

What are you basing that statement on duckie? Its clearly not based on that article, so i'm assuming after a year where the manager has been backed fully to gain promotion, you have a personal agenda against the club... Otherwise why make such a daft statement relating back to a comment which was made more 3 or 4 years back.

There may have been a smudge of sarcasm buddy ;) I've never been shafted so wouldn't know. Maybe I'd enjoy it.

Sounds like a continuation of a sound sensible approach that has worked really well this season.

I'm sure our wage bill will still be notable next season without wasting astronomical sums on wasters and unmotivated has beens.

Absolutely, Wilder has proved that he's capable of getting the right players for the job in hand, not the job 2 years ahead and not just spending money and hoping that a player will do a job because he cost a lot of money...

When i read that article I actually thought it was a dig aimed at Wednesday...

Headline should read....

Blades manager lets all mercenaries and scum football agents know that he wont pay them the money they aren't worth so stop bothering him and head to south Barnsley

It's a fair interview. I'm happy

Exactly, if paying through the nose for Fletcher is what we can expect, I'd rather wait for value for money.

Fair enough really. Buying players who are only here because we offered them a huge wage is the reason why we got relegated in the first place. Makes sense to only want players who actually want to be here and not cripple us financially. Not make the same mistakes again.

I was being sarcastic buddy. We shouldn't fall to the trap of inflated wages for players as that's how we ended here in the 1st place. As long as our players turn up week in week out as we have been doing we should be ok. My only hope is that we don't miss out on all of our top targets due to financial reasons or we could end up with scraps. Financially the Championship to League 1 is different gravy.

As you say, we've been there and done that, thankfully now we have a manager capable of finding players with the right attitude but also that fall into the right wage bracket. It will undoubtedly be a struggle and i'd imagine that there will be agents of current players rubbing their hands together. I seem to remember when we were trying to sign Freeman the deal ended up falling through at the last minute because of late wage demands.

I wouldn't like to be an agent dealing with Wilder.

He's also not going to come out and say we'll be spending big...it just adds a few hundred £k onto any transfer fee a club commands from us. Best to keep your cards close to your chest in that regard. I hope we don't go splashing out anyway - having a good team ethic with some capable players will out perform a team of expensively assembled individuals at this level anyway (see Huddersfield/Leeds this season compared to the lot over the City)

When a team wins this division, and very well you don't generally rebuild it. Well unless you're Wigan and you can all see how that went.

We have 5 or 6 squad guys who will be leaving that need to be replaced with 6 first team guys, loans and purchases, so we have at least 18 players battling it out in pre season to be in the 11

Let's not change too much or you will lose the team spirit

A different spin can be put on different approaches.

So if a player says "I want to join a club that matches my ambition",
that can often mean "I'm a mercenary and will join which ever club pays me the best salary".

And when Wilder says "We need to spend wisely and only want players with the right attitude who actually want to play for this fantastic club",

than can mean "there's a limited budget next season so I'm not going to be able to compete for the players that I'd like to bring in".

Totally fair comment. I'm sure Wilder will show a level of loyalty to most of the players that have performed so well for him.

Personally I don't think Basham, Hanson and Clarke will be good enough at Championship level
But they all deserve their chance. Basham especially keeps proving me wrong, he could do it again next season and shine even at Championship level.

I wouldn't but the Freeman thing happened under Clough.

Last time we spent big was under Robson and we are only just recovering from that now

Think the snorters will have the same problem

There are going to be some big spending clubs in the Championship next season. If, as I fear, we continue to try to do things on the cheap then I think we will struggle.

There will always be the odd exception but there is no doubt that spending big money on better quality players does generally work.

If only we could attract owners willing to back the club in a meaningful way.

It`s not about doing things on the cheap. It`s about getting suitable players at value for money. Spending big money on better quality players can work, but there`s no guarantees. We have won the league by a distance without spending the large sums of money which have failed us in the past.

The thing is, in League One terms we spent big this season. So why now are many turning round and saying we shouldn't spend big in the Championship? It's basically because we can't!

Look at Newcastle, their budget has been huge this season but they have invested in the right players and manager.

Anyone who says they wouldn't want a similar budget to Wednesday's next season is a liar, because I have no doubt Wilder would do a far better job than Carlos with that money and we'd be running the top 2 very close if not going up as Champions.

Exciting times eh Blades, cost's will go up but so will income....the Liverpool stuff just a bit of daft soundbite eh?

We've got a great chance to re-build this club and take it forwards under Wilder,he could be the guy who finally helps put the jigsaw together.

I'm looking forward to seeing who we can bring in to bolster an already decent set of lads.

UTB!

What worries me is despite Wilder's good intentions, cash will be a problem.
To me, spending £1m on a player seems a big purchase. There's at least 20 clubs in that division who can spend that money without blinking.

The club will not pay over the odds for players fees and wages is exactly what CW has said from the minute he walked in the door. You have got to admire the sentiment how it will work in the Championship we can only wait and see.

This, its all down to the players themselves, do it in the championship, you'll be rewarded, don't perform, and we will have to spend.

True .

Here's hoping Wilder's not making a rod for his own back though .

With the cost of wages across their forward line alone, they can't afford to not go up. Fletcher, Fuzzy fairy, Rhodes, Hooper and Winnall won't come cheap!
