If the players can't take the manager being publicly annoyed with them after that then they know where the door is.

• the presser immediately after: did he shoulder the blame or was it placed on the players?

If an apology 2 days later is enough for you, then you're way too easily pleased

Having listened to both post match and todays presser he isn't running away from scrutiny. He's said that it's also on him.
Admittedly he has tried to explain the situation too that this hasn't been straightforward. And you can take that as him trying to "buy time".
But he is also right that 7 games in isn't super long. Normally though 10-12 games is a good marker in my opinion.

But football is a weird thing really. It sort of isn't comparable to normal jobs. In no other line of work should you make a mistake or have some results/sales not go to plan do you get lots of criticism from effectively your customers. And media wanting to ask questions.

You also don't tend to have to pay compensation (A fee) to move to another company. Usually just notice periods.

Football isn't the same as a normal job.

I wonder what percentage used to think that Nigel Clough was doing a good job when we beat all those PL teams in cup games, then loose 5-2 to Swindon Town in the league.

Though we are now a much bigger club, with greater aspirations.

Because I am reliably informed that when we lose he goes down the tunnel.

I voted in, despite being so, so, so, SO pissed off with him after Wednesday night, the cold light of day brings with it the feeling that, if he were to be binned off, I have absolutely zero trust in the owners to get it right when replacing him.

Well Mark McGuinness has responded to it pretty well. It depends if he wants to put himself in the shop window for another job or if he is of the view that this will be his last job.

McGuiness ( as far as we know) was told he wasnt in the clubs plans and should look for a move. He knew if a move didnt happen he still had a contract and ultimately backed himself to still be in the squad regardless , even as back up.

If the club told wilder " whatever happens you're fired in may" thats a very different scenario .

It would also effect any players looking to extend or sign new contracts as they too would face an uncertain future .

A manager may decide hes going at the end of the season , thats again very different.

And finally...pretty much no club ever does it , its such a good plan.
