He just clearly got it wrong, as he has in many games this year, but sometimes the quality of our players gets us through games.

When i saw the team sheet i thought WTF, bur he was so right. Luton were bombing balls into our box from everywhere on the pitch and a tough resolve was needed and we got that.

They launched balls into us we needed to go as big as possible.

Second half we had to match them.

The first half was attritional but nowhere near as bad as the Pompey game. Wilder made changes at HT to both personnel and tactics that nobody called for and they worked. The same people making the same comments week after week is where the problem is, not with a manager that continues to keep the Blades up at the top of the league.
Then to suggest we sack him if promoted........it defies belief

I don’t give two shits about tactics stats expected goals etc. Games of football are won/drawn/lost on the pitch. I don’t care if we get battered 99% possessions 50 shots at goal 20 of target etc. I takes 1 shot 1% possession to score a goal the other 99% keeping the ball out of your net and we’re pretty good at it when we’re playing rubbish So stop all this negativity get behind the boys let’s get back to were we belong. Wilder is doing something he hasn't been able to do much so far this season, which is to use a full squad of players. More often than not the players coming in aren't quite as effective as the players who start regularly, but it's about how you rotate and use players from the bench to impact results.

Peck and O'Hare probably needed a shorter match today, and we used them perfectly. Likewise the switch to the back 3 with Holding was a smart move. Great management imo, and we got the points against a horrible team.

Burnley, Leeds and Sunderland fans will be fuming again tonight, even more so than some of our own.

Whenever we make lots of changes, we always seem to be dire in the first half. I get the need to rotate players if we have three games in a week, but we don't have a game for 9 days. Burrow, O'Hare and Peck hardly looked knackered after Wednesdays match. For me there is a big drop off when their replacements come in.

Tbh, some of the people on here who keep raising the point that we could have been a few goals down at half time in some of the games (Portsmouth, Swansea and Luton mainly) aren't exactly wrong.

But that does work both ways in some games, Middlesbrough being one of them.

We could have been 2-1 or 3-1 up at half time against Boro with some of the chances we had in the first half, Hamer curled a shot just wide of the post and nearly scored directly from a corner, both of which were at 0-0.

Luton bombed aimless balls forward all day, hoof ball at its best and worst. They had dangerous free kicks on the edge of the box and better teams wouldn't have wasted them the way they did. They're bottom of the league for a reason, they're fucking crap. As a top of the league team we should have set up to beat them convincingly, not scratting about, losing headers, not picking men up, losing the second balls, standing off and not taking charge.

Despite the win, and points are what matter, we were poor. Once again we're playing against a team with no confidence and we sit back, let them play their game and end up lucky to win it. Brereton Diaz is poor, his ball control is appalling. Vini and Choudhary are good players but it has to be one or the other. Campbell is a bit lazy, Rak Sakyi may as well have stayed on the bus and Brewster, despite being the only one trying to pass the ball was deemed to be the weak link so got subbed. Once again, Peck and O'Hare saved the day. Their energy, closing down and willingness to run won us the game. Wilder had us too negative, too slow and too respectful of a crap team.

He got the result right but pretty much everything else sent the signal yet again that should we get promoted, we'll get fucking battered every week in the higher league.

Some of our fans are just fuckin thick. They really do make me laugh. Wilder is juggling 2 games in 4 days, 3 games in 7 days. A game is now played with 15 or 16 players, not just the 11 that start. He's picking players to do a job and changing things when/if necessary. We are top of the league 75% of season over and if we carry on with our current ppg ratio will finish on 100 points (-2 deduction) so net 98.

That makes me think he's maybe infinitely more qualified than some of the dullards on here to make the calls.

Everyone saying Wilder got it right today, so I assume that these people believe the correct game plan was to weather the storm, against a side bottom of the league, for the first 80 minutes, at which point hope a central defender, will all being well, roll in the winner?

I think Wilder got it horrifically wrong and rode his luck, thanks in the end to the players who watched the majority of the game sat behind him. Luton fans must be struggling to get their breath tonight, after our toothless performance. Wednesday night was a superb, attacking football performance, we absolutely destroyed Middlesbrough and a 3-1 defeat flattered them.

On that basis, surely you start with the same team, with the exception of any injuries, maintain the momentum, build the confidence and play the same front foot style of football and engrain it into the squad. Then, when you’re 2 or 3 up, then you change the players you might want to keep fresh for Leeds, albeit that the game is still a full 9 days away?

As far as I’m concerned, the changes at half time were an acknowledgement from Wilder that he’d made an error of judgement. He complained after the Portsmouth game about the players having an ‘arrogance’, well it’s apparent who they’ve caught it from. We were much more of a threat second half, after the changes, but we should have carried that exact same threat from the kick off. I don’t agree with his constant tinkering with the team shape and personnel. We need to play the same 11 whenever possible for the remainder of the season, without Peck, O’Hare even Davies, we have no threat from midfield and no link to the strikers. Souza and Choudhury are defensive, holding midfielders and both shouldn’t be starting together.

As it is, we now go into the game with Leeds, not buoyed with confidence after another superb up and at ‘em display, after putting 4 or 5 passed Luton, to add to the 3 passed Middlesbrough. No we go into it, not knowing how the fuck, we nicked 3 points off the team bottom of the league and what style we’ll be asked to adopt against our main rivals?

I think it's pretty clear - team selection against lesser opposition are Calculated Risks with one eye on the 'bigger' games and keeping key players fit. The joy of now having squad depth, is that we can do that and effect games from the bench.
