Sad seeing this as official, still held out hope. This is also a fairly poor statement, lacking the feeling and emotion Chris Wilder deserves.
It's a sad day indeed. However the statement contains a quotation from CW which is extremely rare in the "thanks for all you've done" statements clubs normally issue.
He's done a brilliant job. Not just what he did, but how we did it. The style, panache and front foot mentality was superb, and made the matches unmissable. We always turned up, and we ALWAYS went for the win.
He has suffered enormously from second season syndrome imo. Something he reassured us he was aware of. This season has been a disaster, but it says so much about the man, that despite the fact we have been poor for the majority of the season, and embarrassingly adrift at the foot of the table no one wanted him to go.
He's a legend in my eyes, and I'll miss him. I'll also miss the togetherness he brought, and it really felt like a "club" for once from top to bottom. I really hope we don't lose that. If he ever returns, he'll get a standing ovation from me.
GLTTL in whatever he does next.
Interested to see who follows him, and an interim situation until the end of the season makes perfect sense to me. There will be a lot of movement between now and the summer in managerial positions and we are wise to see what washes out. We are down anyway, so no point rushing into anything imo.
