Wilder Bottled It

Here's the thing. Set up like that and play them 10 times, we win once max. We will never know how good our new style is against better teams unless we play it. Play it and if we would have beat them then we would know we could beat any side in this division with our normal style. Now we still don't know how good it is . Toe to toe and I say we win 2 - 4 times versus Leeds away and maybe lose 3 or 4. We turned a 3-1 chance of winning according to bookies (about right) to a 10-1 chance...

Wilder has been itching to get back to a back 3 for ages I reckon it’s why he’s kept RND around. Back 3 is what he knows and trusts.

Should Des Taylor replace Wilder? If he's been responsible for signing our new players, he might be a better manager than Wilder. All Taylor's hard work will be undone if we don't finish in the top 2.

I'm dreading the steel city derby now. If we have any chance of beating the pigs, we'll change the system again. Wilder will treat the Massive team with respect and probably drop soutar and anel to the bench.
Don't be daft. Leeds are a far better team than Wednesday. I doubt we will see Wilder set the team up like last night for the rest of the season.

We've lost one game against the best side in the league. Get a grip.

It's all be said although I don't think he bottled it , just got it wrong .
I'm always bemused when managers pick a team and formation absolutely none of us would have . I realise they have knowledge of how players have trained ,fitness levels etc which we don't.
Often it's just trying to be too clever by half as England found out recently.
If it comes off it's a master stroke , when it doesn't it looks awful.
Back to plan A I think .
I agree Wilder got it wrong but I think he has plenty of credit in his account . The first 20 mins we looked good because i think Leeds were worried playing us but they found out that the way we were set up they had nothing to fear and they dominated after the start . Blades have never been great playing negative football ,they always look far better on the front foot ,always have .

In many respects, this was and should have been a big marker to put down. We missed the opportunity to send a message to the rest of the league: we are here and we are not going away.

Instead, we look at a game from last season and think we can replicate the tactics this season.

What the coaching staff did incorrectly was to decide that the current formation, personnel, and tactics used this season would not beat Leeds. That is one hell of an admission!

At the end of the day, bad decisions led to bad performances which led to a bad result.

The truth in all of this, and it has not been said by anyone at the club, is that we could have beaten Leeds with the tactics and formation we have played prior to Leeds.

The coaching staff out thought themselves and put negativity ahead of reality.

Is this a joke?

I do not think Wilder got it wrong we Played against a quality side and I hate to say it they are certs to win the championship.

1987 what a load of Bullshit we have only lost one game against a team who have better players than us get a grip man.

Up to last night 3 goals only conceded ,changing a system you've brought players in to play ,and they have been playing it well . what we played last night is baffling Chris must have had a brain fart .
Burrows and gilchrist have been super solid so drop one and move the other ,raki has found his feet in the last few outings so drop him .O'Hare who has been poor so far this season undropable .last night's side to side passing was painfull to watch . unfortunately the coaching staff bottled it last night .

"I'm absolutely livid at that. Wilder completely bottled it and picked a team not to lose.
When we went one down we were so far out of the game to ever have a chance of getting back in it"

That was the message I sent to my son whilst walking home last night.

I don't usually get uptight about football but I still feel much the same this morning although the anger has gone.
My angers still here mate and it's Monday morning 😐

Down the years , some of our most successful managers have fallen into the trap of trying to show that that they are tactical geniuses rather than sticking with the tried and tested approach which has brought us success in the first place.

This includes Dave Basset with his bizarre line up at Wembley against the Grunters and Neil Warnock , both in the playoffs against Wolves and in the final game of our relegation season under him .

Whilst Wilder has earned a great deal of respect from me and many others for what he has achieved so far this season , his approach to the Leeds match was for me just another example of that syndrome and which proved to be a disastrous mistake .

We must all hope that he has learned from this , but given his post match interview I am far from sure that this will be the case but I sincerely hope that he will do so and set us up with the system that has worked so well for us so far and go for a win against the team that lost comprehensively against the mighty Bristol City …..

I watched Leeds last night and they were awful, Watfords keeper gave them both their goals. I can’t believe we sat back against them & didn’t have a go. Wilder surely won’t be the same again tonight !!
