Wilder annoyed?

Swansea will probably play the following XI against us:

Nordfeldt (Swedish International)
Amat (Spanish u21 capped)
van der hoorn (Dutch u21 capped)
Naughton (England u21 capped)
Merlin (Wizard)
Carroll (England u21 capped)
Grimes (England u21 & u23 capped)
Dyer
Asoro (Swedish u21)
McBurnie (Scotland Full Capped)
Narsingh (Dutch Full Capped)

More than enough quality to cause us problems all over the pitch. :)
merlin.. wizard
superb : D

They won't do a Sunny D but they may be mid table.

I’ve watched Porto v Newcastle tonight, and Porto have given out one of the biggest 0-0 mullerings I've ever seen. :)

THB I think were going to a great season but I daren't say it out load , DOH !

I think McGoldrick is a great addition and think he will have a good season in the twilight of his career .

Struggling to beat Doncaster is good reason to be annoyed. Can't understand why Wilder is not addressing the Coutts situation, his injury conjured last season's relegation form. So an upgrade/cover for his injury is the priority. Evans/Lundstrum are not the answer..

So what.

George Long (England U20 capped)
Jordan Slew (England U19 capped)
Diego de Juve (Italy U20 capped)

Means fuck all. Looks like the Brentforditis I mentioned in the post above yours has already begun!
As always, I'll stand to be corrected.... But
George Long never played for England U20 nor U21
Jordan Slew never played for England U19
Diego De Juve never played for Italy U20
Otherwise.... spot on....

Because players like Coutts are everywhere just waiting to be spotted. Change your avatar to The Straw Man.

George Long was capped at u18 (1) & u20 (1) and went as reserve keeper to u20 WC in ‘13. Jordan Slew (2) was capped at u19 and DdJ was capped at u18 (5), u19 (1) & u20 (2).

But as snooty says, it means fuck all. ;)

That's very interesting Nicolaus_Copernicus . I like to keep my records up to date. I know Long was a squad player. You couldn't help an old obsessive out could you please. And let me have the Slew & Long dates & opponents. Thanks in advance.

Wonder how Swansea's manager is feeling today.

They have only won one of there five pre season games, that being the first game at Yeovil.

The other four games all played in Europe (tuff on paper) two draws and two losses, worst defeat last nite at FC Magdeburg 3-0

Means nowt tho pre season, you are just getting players fit and trying things out.

Just looked at Swansea's squad and it is still a Premiership squad, even McBurnie (who scored for Barnsley against us) has signed a new deal.

There is talk of one or two of there leading lights being snapped up,but i bet i does not happen until after the 4th Aug but before 9th Aug.

I would take a draw now against them Jacks.

I'll be posting 'Memries of Swansea' tomorrow and, believe me, their squad will be unrecognisable from last seasons (sales, injuries etc.)

Exactly what I thought when Sinclair read the Derby team out when we played them last season...

You're not grooming me are you? :D

Just looking through the various squads seven years on, to see who has made it, and who hasn't. Just noticed that the German u19 coach was called 'Ralf Minge'.

I prefer to call it "harvesting your mind" rather than grooming...

(thanks btw)

Just done a quick hoover over the player sales since relegation,2018.

These players were regulars last season,2017/2018

Fabianski
Mesa
A.Ayew
Ki Sung-Yeung

Kyle Bartley - (5 games)
Leon Britton - (5 games)
Angel Rangel - (4 games)

Looking at that list they are missing what would have been 4 definate starters.

You fiendish swine! I've not got much to harvest! ;)

Just noticed that Slew came on for Harry Kane in the Netherlands game in '11. The fickle nature of football.
I do have a somewhat unpalatable view on Academy & Youth International football.
You have to play with 11
That means you sometimes have to pick the best you've got rather than the best there'll be
Some/most of the lads in the Shirecliffe XIs are never going to make it
But, the one that might still needs someone to keep goal, run the channels, pick his man up at corners & whack some crosses over.
They also serve .....

Always wondered about this, the lads "making up the numbers"

As long as they are treated fairly and with respect by all concerned it should be OK

Something they can look back on with pride ... hopefully

Go on then!

Meaningless factoid. Swansea City have never won at Bramall Lane in the league.

Just to further elaborate on Nic's reply to you:

De Girolamo
is eligible to represent both England and Italy at international level, prompting a tug-of-war between the England and Italy under-18 sides for his services. De Girolamo opted for Italy after Italian football legend Arrigo Sacchi personally rang him in a plea for him to represent Italy.[32] In January 2013 De Girolamo was called up by the Italian under-18 team for the Granatkin Memorial,[33] and made his debut as a 68th-minute substitute in a 1–0 victory over Belgium on 6 January 2013.[34] He went on to play in every game in the tournament, scoring twice in two starts during the knock-out phase against Iran and the Czech Republic.[35] De Girolamo earned his second call-up to the under-18s in a friendly match against Austria U-18s on 6 March 2013. De Girolamo scored in the 2–1 defeat, but also sustained suspected ligament damage to his knee, ruling him out for the remainder of the season.[36]

Following his recovery from injury, he was called up to the Italy under-19 squad for a friendly against Germany under-19s in March 2014, scoring in a 1–1 draw.[37][unreliable source?] In September 2014, De Girolamo was called up to the Italy under-20 squad for a four-team friendly tournament to be played that month,[38] appearing against Poland on 9 September.[39]

Slew made his international debut for the England U19 side in a 1–0 defeat to Germany on 8 February 2011, replacing Connor Wickham after 60 minutes.[54] He earned his second cap against the Netherlands on 29 March 2011, coming on as a 72nd-minute substitute in a 3–0 defeat.[55]

Long made his England U18 début in April 2011, coming on as a second-half substitute during a 1–1 draw with Italy in Carpi.[18] Following a successful 2012–13 season, Long was selected in the provisional 35-man squad for the 2013 FIFA Under 20 World Cup,[19] and was later confirmed as part of the 21-man squad for the finals themselves.[20] Long featured in a pre-tournament practice match against Uruguay,[21] but failed to make any competitive appearances during the tournament.[22] On 8 August 2013 Long got his first call up to the England U21 team for the match against Scotland U21s on 13 August at Sheffield United's Bramall Lane.[23] Upon his first call up to the U21s Long stated "It makes it a bit more special that it’s at Bramall Lane. There will be a great atmosphere there and a packed stadium, so I’m looking forward to it."[24] On 27 August 2013 Long was called up for the England U21s again under new boss Gareth Southgate for matches against Moldova U21s and Finland U21s for Group 1 2015 U-21 Euro Qualifier matches[25] and once more in November for matches against San Marino U21s and Finland's U21s again.[26]

...hopefully Swansea are half-arsed and we are at it....3 points to the Blades if so!

I’m expecting us to win but not comfortable - there is quality in their side for sure.

Definitely a side you want at home on the first day of season though: mentality has a huge question mark over it; a lot of foreigners who won’t be expecting the quality and/or intensity of the Championship; fragile confidence and losing mentality; weakest of three relegated sides. If we get an early goal, think it’ll be a nice evening.

Oh sorry, I'm not in the gang.
I knew Diego De Girolamo had played for Italy age group teams. It was the claim that Diego De Juve had that made me twitch.
Apologies to all concerned....

The Coutts situation was addressed. He brought in Evans.
At the time thought to be a good signing, And within our wage budget. He’s done well at times and as he matures may well come close to the master Coutts.
What you fail to appreciate, is that you simply don’t just pick up an equally good player to Coutts without spending serious money...club record fee type money!
And we need that sort of money for strikers, especially considering that Coutts will with luck be back and firing close to his best by Xmas...hopefully a little sooner.

So a little bit of sense needs to be applied on occasions.

At this time of the season, my mind wanders to the 10th August 1997. I was younger then, handsome; not in the classical sense, but with an earthy magnetism, with a full head of hair and all my own teeth. Sheffield United 2 Sunderland 0. Sunderland had just been relegated and came to BDTBL as one of the favourites for promotion and we tore them a new arsehole that day, playing some beautiful, vibrant fast paced attacking football. I left at full time thinking that i was witnessing the dawn of a golden era. It wasn't and synchronistically (?) the season ended with us losing 2 - 0 at Sunderland. We started the season with Deane & Fjortoft and ended it with Taylor & Marcelo. Vas Borbokis, just for a beautiful late summer's moment, looking world class. All those moments will be lost in time, like tears in rain. It's jus the fucking Blades way, innit. :(
