Wigan - winnable, or a need to grind out a dour draw?

Agree, they're all winnable. That said, having already succeeded in dropping points against 6 of the bottom 8 (Colchester [L], Crewe [L], Shrewsbury [L], Oldham [D], Fleetwood [D] and Barnsley [D]) every fixture represents a potential banana skin (with our name on it).

Let's have a go though for fucks sake:mad:

Can I just point out that we beat Fleetwood :)

Oh, and a straight red for using THAT phrase

22 games left 66 points available
we have 36 points
76 points is a play off spot more or less guarenteed
so 40 points req

means we must win 13 of 22 for the minimum requirement and a draw automatic 2nd 84 to 88 points Id say this season
say 86 thats 50 points 17 wins out of 22
tough but its been done before

personally think we will finish 5th and win the play offs, under Adkins
past results mean diddly

conversely why should we let them dictate the play
its time to be brave, one result isnt going to settle the positions
got to do what Leicesterare doing , defending in the other teams goal mouth

wigan benifitted in their last game when gillingham went from going for it to defending
got what they deserved gillingham for going backwards
Tbf, I wasn't at the Wigan game so I don't know how Gills fucked it up.
I didn't see Leicester defending in other teams' goal mouths in the games I've watched them. They tended to hit Vardy over the top or hit it out to Mahrez to capitalise on Vardy's pace.

If we were to sneak into the automatic spot then Wigan are one of the three other teams we'll have to overtake and we're 8 points behind already.

The other two IMO are Coventry and Walsall who play each other tomorrow night and we're 11 and 12 points behind them.

Then there are Burton and Gillingham who are 15 and 14 points in front of us.

It's a must-win game and so are 5 out of the next six to stand any chance.

As for the Play-Offs a draw would be a worthy result.

What a state to be in yet again.

Automatics are long gone. This is about getting into the playoffs. A draw would be a good result.

We spent the first half of the season going out and attacking teams, showing them who's boss - and getting beaten. We've reverted to a more defensive style, and are getting more points on the board as a result. If we want to reach the playoffs, we need to keep it tight.

I didn't say sit deep, I said
'I'm not advocating a ten man defence like Man U, just nothing daft, don't over commit, no risky balls. Let Wigan force it and hope they make mistakes we can capitalise on.'

Leicester are in the bottom 3 teams in the Prem for possession and passes made. Different way of playing and the other lot in S6 play much the same.

Yes they play on the counter.

It's a shame it got postponed on Boxing Day, because December was actually our best month in terms of results, and I think that would have just been yet another win for us at that stage. The Peterborough game was a crucial point in or season, and we didn't get the result. If we'd have won that, we'd be 6th, 4 points behind Wigan, making this game an important one. As it stands, we are 9th, 4 points off the top 6. That one result has completely shut us down for at least 2 games. So that was a big turning point for me.

I think Old Trafford was good for us. It must have been tiring to play a highly disciplined defensive game then get cheated out of a replay in the 93rd minute, but also, the confidence and the togetherness of the squad is probably pretty high right now, to say they lost their last 2 games. We need to build from a defensive, counter-attacking mindset away from home, and just not lose, so a solid point would be more than fine. Win if we can, but there are bigger fish to fry, AKA winning our next 3 games, those being Colchester, Swindon and Blackpool. That's where we can claw back some ground on the top 6.

Peterborough's next 3 are Southend, Gillingham and Burton, surely they will drop points with those teams. We can make 6th relatively easily. 5th will be harder to crack, and I think that's our lot this season.

0-0 all the way for Tuesday night!

Grigg might give us a few problems. Hope Billy's passed fit - not sure where the goals are going to come from otherwise.

we now have to copy QPR be dog shit but still win a play off

Bwahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahaha!

I know you keep on banging on about previous is no measure of current but us to win a Play Off Final?

............ BWAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!

Sangria
Bwahaha

You crease me up BTL :)

well thats how I see people who use previous losses to keep us down

Preston took 10 goes , but all runs come to an end

bury won at the lane for the first time in 60 years
and we won at scunthorpe , first since bill haley and the comets were number one

we wont be playing any of the players who lost in previous final defeats
its a new manager
mostly new players
different day

amazing people can remember all the shit days ,
Ive seen 8 promotions
so know we can do it

Anyone got any good parking tips for Wigan?

Pedants need not reply (but they will).

We need to go out and try and win all our games in January. There's still possible automatic promotion (regardless of how unlikely that is). 5 wins from the next 5 and who knows.

Surely it's past the time when draws can be counted as acceptable in the promotion plan. We have to go to every match with a plan to bag all 3 points. We're too far behind and time is running out.

They havent scored that many at home this season, bar a 5-0 thrashing that they dished to someone (Crewe perhaps?) so if we keep em quiet I reckon we will have enough. Problem is though that keeping things tight lately seems to mean playing without any pace. Would love Flynn or JCR to get a start over Woolford.

Jaaskelainen
Daniels, Barnett, Morgan, Pearce, James
Power, Perkins, Kellett
Jacobs
Grigg

Top scorer: Jacobs - on 7, I think.

Strange formation (from their last match v Gillingham). Not much there to suggest we ought to be terrified of them, nor that they're a side capable of "smashing the league".
It's a back 3 they play Alf,so hopefully we can use the wings to get at them...maybe JCR could feature...I expect 442 again from us,but hopefully he'll tweak things a bit.

We're mediocre, they're mediocre. It's who will turn up on the day. I'm not ruling a win for us out of the equation compared to some people.
Agree. My worry is they have lots of pace and they (can be) very direct. We usually struggle when teams come onto us thus.

That said, here's hoping!

Any body got any thoughts on a team line up?

I know a few have 'knocks'

Thoughts?
