No this table is just plain WRONG.

We all know that the Massive get at least 3ok at home and take even more away. In fact they are so big they take more than the entire capacity of most other grounds, so the correct figures are probably 50k away and 20k at home.

This would put them top of the table with a 166% percentage and once again we bow our heads to their massive Massiveness.

Like it or not Wigan have been a bigger side than us for quite a few years now. Fan base, history, attendances, away following, stadium are all great but mean roughly jack shit if they out perform you year after year.

Sorry. So Wigan Atheletic are a bigger club than Sheffield United, but if Paddy Kenny gets his fingers to David Unsworths penalty to tip it around the post, Sheffield United are the bigger club instead?

Over the past 10 years Wigan have been far more successful than us. Big club or not, it's irrelevant. On the pitch is where it counts I'm afraid. We have a bigger fan base than most of the Championship and some of the Prem teams, but what does that even mean any more? All about the ££££ this gets you success, not bums on seats.
 
Wigan may do well to remember that there are 23 other teams in league one. They will be there or thereabouts but I suspect they'll be knocked off their high horse before too long when they're having the shit kicked out of them in a plowed field surrounded by B&Q cast offs as a Sunday league ref ignore there's 275th request for a free kick.

League one is a lesser quality of football but we know as well as anybody that doesn't make it an easy ride!

A top top player for our level comes on the market right now, we're both in for him, where does he go?

And if football is all about money, then I can't disagree with you.

But it all comes back to the definition of what a "big club" is, rather than a "massive" club. Or a club that has enjoyed relative success thanks to a short term, and ultimately draining cash injection. A footballers perspective of what makes a "big club" won't, understandably, make it passed the pay check.

Footballs always been about success, and it's generally money which has bought that success.
Current success is the main driver of what's a current big club.
It should be easier for a team with a larger support base to be bigger or more successful but it isn't a given.
It has to be earnt and like it or not we've sat down here moaning about the luck of others, how they've had this money or that money, how this should or shouldn't have happened, when actually we've been the ones blowing it. Changing managers, losing playoffs, selling our best players at wrong time the list goes on and on. As we get promoted it allows us to use our fanbase to our advantage over teams with less people coming through the gates. As of right now those thing you think make us big, the fanbase, the stadium, the history is the millstone around our neck due to the misguided expectation it sets within ourselves, our board and the opposition.
This coming season Wigan are a bigger club than us, and it's up to the club to change that as the season plays out.
If we're top in February, getting 20,000 each week then we'd be in a position to claim the "bigger team" tag, but that ain't confirmed until May.

Or, the things I think that make us big, as listed by you, are the things that make us big, and give us fans an expectation which may be naive given our current situation, but not misguided. To do otherwise is to accept mediocrity. Which is different to recognising that mediocrity is where we are.

Unless Wigan are paying more than he's worth, us. Players are mainly concerned about four things, usually in this order; money, location, crowd size/career potential, manager. The second two, sometimes three depending on the individual, can be interchangeable in terms of priority. At times a player may not even have money as his first priority.

If Wigan are prepared to pay £10k+ per week for players then we either compete with them using the Prince's money or we don't and I suspect it's the latter but very few players will choose them over us unless they're paying significantly more, or they're based in the north west and settled.
 
They are right. They will be the team to chase. Let's hope we are up for it. That would make a pleasant change. UTB

From the outside most would think that they have a significantly better chance of being promoted this season, than a team who failed to make the playoff final.
It's isn't a difficult decision based on those facts.

The expectation is misguided because we demand to be blowing this league away despite the fact that our purchasing powers doesn't put us int he top two each season.

From a manager , players perspective , ( never mind how much they cost or length of contact ) , we have just got to get into the positive mindset , as a club , of let other teams worry about us , and us not worry about them. It appeared too much the other way round last season.

No wins first two, but early days I suppose
 
oh and just to add, the big team in league 1 had an attendance reaching 8,000 and who have not witnessed a league goal yet this season

Wigan yeah massive club in league 1 hahaha after Donny took 924 fans today that left a total home support of 7889,if there players can overcome that pressure of playing in front of a crowd that size they deserve to go up lmao.
 
I don't mind the chairman talking bollocks to raise the hopes of the club, that's part of his job, plus he's just a kid.

Gary Caldwell however has taken his first ever job at a 3rd division club. He's going to find out how difficult that task is and I hope his blatant disrespect for this league comes back to bite him on the arse to be honest.
 
as I said ,Wigans had their 5 minutes of fame and are returning to their oval ball roots halfway at best

And Blackpool will do well to stay up

Lol, Wigan rugby league got about 11,000 for their most recent home game. Eight thou or so is a disgrace of an attendance for a club that was premier league a couple of years ago (& who, I believe, have pegged their prices this season).

Cracking start they've made in this division, long may it continue.

Message to their Chabby Chairman: just 99 points to go, son!
