Happy new year fellow Blades, hope you're fit and well for today's trip to Wigan. They're struggling this season, and one win in 13 or so is a stat that we ought to be prolonging. However it's 9 new year's Day games since we last won. That was in 1994 against Oldham :) Hope that made some semblance of sense...

Anyway ..

Any team news? :)

Who comes in for Bash?

Clarke to partner Billy?

Enabling Duffy to come off the bench?

McG playing Duffy's role?

Games like this are never easy so I hope we give permission for Evans to play against us ;) I'm in for a 3-1 Blades win. Safe journey all. And let's bring in the new year as we mean to go on....

UTB

Where did this come from? Must have taken me 16 mins to do mine!

No idea what the team maybe. Perhaps Cranie in as he’s a bit more mobile going forward.

Perhaps a similar line up to Reading away, with Duffy and Sharp off the bench if needed.

Stearman for Bash you'd have thought, no need for major changes given a lot will be 'rested' next weekend.

Here's hoping we don't start like we did the last time we were there although I wouldn't mind a repetition of the last half hour :)

- - - - - - - - - - Hendoria
- - - - - Cranius Egg O'Colonel
Baldrick - - - - - - - - - - - - - - Stevsonian
- - - - - Nordic - Courts - Flack
- - - - - - - - - - - MC Goldron
- - - - - - - Sharpei

Duffy wasn't quite on it last time and might need a rest more than most. McGoldrick and Sharp have to stay in. And it's about time Coutts started. If Baldock can be on his game again we won't miss Duffy as much.

I'd start as we finished on Saturday with a flat back four and Coutts, Norwood and Fleck accross the middle. It looked solid and was a seamless switch without Basham. The extra man could be the new kid or Duffy behind Billy & Goldy.

Tufty isn't one for changing formation/tactics unless he has to. Dowell can't play until Saturday.

Man, how I miss Pro Evo.

Indeed. The whole point of adding Cranie to the squad was to help ensure we had at least two options for every position, allowing for the exact scenario where Basham was unavailable – Cranie will allow us to keep our usual shape, and I’d be very surprised if he isn’t starting. In the only games that Basham hasn’t been at RCB, his positon was taken by Egan at QPR (prior to Cranie signing) and Cranie at Forest.

What's Cranie like going forward?

Stears is pretty forward minded I'd have thought he'd be obvious were it not for going out and signing an RCB.

The tumbling wonder starts. As predicted, the only change. Freeman back on the bench.

Remarkable to think that through the full Christmas/NY fixtures we’ve only made one change, which we were forced into making.

Not Stearman then replacing Bash

I never thought it was likely. As Stearman isn’t used at RCB, we were either going to play Cranie (one change from usual) or move Egan across and being Stearman in (two changes from usual). With Wilder preferring consistency, the former was always more likely to happen.

hopefully we can get 3 pts today. tough v Wigan. gave us great game at lane. but could be vital as teams around us have tricky fixtures 2nd successive match

Look fairly comfortable at the moment.

Some good danger area moments which on a different day might’ve fell more kindly to our players in their box.

They’ve had a few opps and one excellent opp but nothing to show.

Keep it up Blades

Sheffield United are winless in their past nine New Year's Day games (D3 L6) since a 2-1 win over Oldham Athletic in 1994.
Billy Sharp the highest goalscorer this century.
