Fail today and Brentford's task looks impossible.

I think I'm right in saying that since the start of the play off era, only one team that plays in red and white stripes has successfully navigated the process, in 26 attempts.

That team was Stoke who were fortunate enough to meet another red and white striped team, Brentford, in the 2002 final. So Brentford's only hope this time would be would be meeting us at Wembley.

what a finish , a penalty in injury time , hits the bar and donny break away to win the title ,
unbelievable as kamara would say

see not only us that can cock up

The Brentford scenario is exactly the type of thing we'd do though... :)

UTB

all teams do it sometimes , weve got to stop beating ourselves up about it, man utd blew an 8 point lead to man city last year , , thats a siralex team doing it

You have to be in the situation for that sort of thing to happen. Its the Blades way, partly because we get into play offs.

That can't be right, we were told regularly and with great authority that in no way would Doncaster go up automatically!

I make it 27 attempts, unless you are discounting us for the Stoke game as we had to play in blue and yellow that day. Either way, it's horrific and I wouldn't have believed it unless I checked the figures:-

W LF LSF
Potters 1 0 4
Blades 0 4 2
Bees 0 2 4
Imps 0 2 3
Black Cats 0 2 2
Saints 0 0 1
Total 1 10 16

We really need you to beat Yeovile!

No arguments there - it would make your life easier...

Commiserations on today. That was a truly Blades-esque last day disaster. Thought your lot were deserving of second place, but it always needs more than that. :(

Cheltenham play in red and white stripes and have won the playoffs twice in 3 attempts.

What is it with us and Brentford?

Both founded in 1889, both play in red and white stripes and both have those pirate swords on our badges.

congratulations to Wednesday on giving their fans something to do next saturday , shit themselves

Unfortunately - as with the Wycombe game at the end of last season - Radio Sheffield will mount a week-long advert for the Middlesbrough game. 'Get yourself down to Hillsborough! Radio Sheffield will be running free buses and taxis!'

30k+ crowd and they can spend the summer knowing they're MASSIVE!

Not just a breakaway but Billy Paynter was bog-lining on he half-way line and the clearance went straight to him!

Blades v Bees in the final? How can both lose?

I've not heard it mentioned anywhere but I don't see how Coppinger wasn't offside.
He's a few yards ahead of the defender and probably ahead of the goalie too.
I know they'd still have been promoted but they wouldn't have won the title.
Anybody else think he was offside?

Another thing not mentioned .... when Trotter took his penalty, there's one Donny player nearly alongside him ... he's a good 6 foot inside the penalty area and blocking Brentford players from getting to the rebound.

yes that worked really well v palace 2 years back with a 35000 crowd
Arr you live in hope like me unfortunately Middlesborough have nothing to play for. Palace did and i can't remember if Wycombe did or not different ends of the table though. Its my birthday saturday what a present that would be, might write a letter to middlesborough to tell them not to let me down on my birthday.

I see that 'boro are in a run of no wins in a gazillion years, and it would take a lot of results going against them for the unclean to go down.

Nailed on if it were us to be fair...

Wycombe were already relegated.

As a blade it is just our luck that they have probably the only side in that division you'd be really happy to play right now at home, if it was us we'd be away to a side who need to win 3-0 to get promotion.

Looking at it obviously we need the pigs to lose, then Peterborough would just need a point to finish above them they are away at Palace (who could have secured a playoff spot with a win a Millwall in mid-week. That then leave Millwall who obviously have the 2 games left now if them beat palace tomorrow they are safe but that would mean palace would need a win.

AND the Dingles to beat Huddersfield...

Most likely set of results to send Wednesday down:

Millwall 0 Palace 1
Wednesday 0 Middlesbrough 2
Derby 1 Millwall 1
Palace 1 Peterbrough 1
Huddesfield o Barnsley 1

It won't happen, but if it did, would 55 points be a record total to be relegated with?

If its looking like it might happen on Saturday, anyone going to be in the town centre who could stick a giant Going Down banner / poster on the back or front of the Pigsboro bound Supertram at about half-four?!!!
